Chapter 39 - CHAPTER 39: IN THE DARK

Arlo was thrown into a room.

"Get some rest. After a few hours, I will come and fetch you to start your work."

Without waiting for any reply, the old maid left.

Arlo rolled into a ball on the floor as he continued to resist the nauseating feeling he was experiencing.

After several minutes, the nauseousness he felt disappeared.

He struggled to his feet and looked around the room. However, as there was no light, all he saw was pitch-black.

He willed 50% Ki in each eye and he could finally see around him.

He found himself in a large square room with a side of about thirteen meters

He had to walk around the room as his sight was restricted to a few meters around him before he could make sense of the entire room.

The floor and walls seemed to be made from some special material as they shone with a black color.

Even though the room was very large, it only had a bed that could barely fit two grown adults, and a sitting table placed at a side of the room. The entire room looked quite empty.

Arlo approached the bed and lay on it. The bed was soft and comfortable.

He stopped willing Ki in his eyes, as they had already started to bleed.

"Haa!" he let out a sigh.

From the moment he entered this world, his life had been in constant danger.

From his encounter with Joe till when he met Scarlett, his senses had always been heightened to the limit.

It wasn't until he met Scarlett that he subconsciously relaxed as he felt a sense of security around her.

Yet, here he was.

A slave!

"Haa!" he released another sigh albeit a tired one.

His mind flashed to when he killed Dio and Rio, and his hands trembled.

It took him a while to gain control of himself.

This wasn't the first time he killed someone. His dad had secretly taken him to kill a wicked lord who was terrorizing his village when he was five. This was a secret between the two and Rita had no idea about it. It was another reason why he subconsciously drifted away from his father, as a part of him hated Arthur for making him go through such a thing at a very young age.

"I can't fall asleep like this," Arlo muttered as he sat up on the bed.

After thinking about it, he stood up and left the room.

Since he could not see, he had no choice but to trace the wall of the corridor as he made his way forward.

.....

Arlo walked and walked yet he couldn't find a soul.

He had climbed up two sets of stairs, and now he was making his way across another corridor.

"Huh?" Arlo was suddenly stunned on the spot.

Ahead of him, he could see a door slightly open.

Along his way, he had come across several doors, however, all of them were shut and he didn't dare to open them carelessly.

What stunned him however wasn't the fact that the door was opened, but that the room was brightly lit up to the point that the entrance was brightened just from the slightly opened door.

After thinking about it, he carefully made his way to the room.

A few meters from the door, he called out lightly:

"Hello?" Even though he spoke lightly, his voice sounded particularly loud in the eerie silence.

"Oh-oh! A little cockroach is wandering around the house." A boy's voice drifted into his ears.

"Hello! I would like to speak with you," said Arlo, but even after a while, no one responded.

Once more, he approached the room. When he reached the entrance, he knocked and called out again:

"Hello?" Absolute silence was the only response he received.

"I will come in now." Even though he said that he didn't actually go in.

He stretched his head forward to sneak a peak at the room.

*Swoosh.*

Two sharp fangs greeted him, and before he could even scream out from fear, a pale hand grabbed his neck, the fangs filling his entire vision before he blacked out.
