A dark summer cloud was hovering in the sky as the evening drew close. It was the kind of cloud that didn't promise any rain, but only appeared to accompany the setting of the sun. The evening was as warm and humid as the day had been, but the clouds that evening were especially heavy.
Sasha sat in her office with her back to the door, a smile of satisfaction on her face as she stared into the evening sky through the glass wall of her office, enjoying the chaotic colors that was splashed across the sky.
Sasha was particularly in high spirits as she watched the sky, the smile on her face broadened and a small giggle escaped her lips. She sat forward to laugh out loudly, then she threw her head back against the headrest of the armchair and maintained her broad smile. She had just received report from the demon who she had put in place to watch over her target, Olivia. Since Devon had forbidden her from tampering with Olivia's soul, to stay true to her threat, Sasha had put a demon in the form of a misty wind, to be in charge of Olivia, with the mission to overwhelm her with heavy feelings of despair and depression, while also monitoring her every move. This way, she planned to break Olivia completely, until the latter would become so frustrated that she would come groveling back to Sasha, and begging for her life, or at least, a merciful death.
But then, Olivia had proven to be more resilient than Sasha had earlier predicted. For a mere human, a poor and lowly one at that, Olivia was quite difficult to break. Every time the mist demon returned to Sasha with a report, it was always about how Olivia was seeking new ways to kick forward, even when everything was clearly not working out for her.
"The human looks frail, but she is tougher than a rock." The demon had once reported, and Sasha did not like the report at all. At some point, Sasha had almost concluded that she might never get her desired victory over Olivia, since the latter seemed to be weathering all the storms she had been sending her way just fine. It frustrated Sasha a lot.
But then, just that evening, the mist demon who had been watching over Olivia had finally returned with some good news for Sasha.
"The mortal has finally given in. She is making her way here now." The demon reported.
Sasha immediately informed the members of her staff at the reception to admit Olivia when she arrived, and send the young woman straight up to her office.
As she sat in her office waiting for Olivia's arrival, Sasha wondered what she would do with the annoying mortal when she finally showed up. In that moment, Sasha suddenly realized that she been so bent on breaking the mortal girl, that she did not even think about what she would do with the girl when she finally broke. Maybe she did not make any prior plans because breaking Olivia had seemed impossible at first. And now that victory was staring her in the face, she didn't even know what to do with it.
Her first plan had been to kill Olivia, and of course, that was still her favorite plan and top on her list. She wanted to slit Olivia's throat with her own hands, and drown herself in Olivia's blood, bathing in the warmth, like the cup of humiliation Olivia had poured on her that day at the hotel. The very thought of it filled Sasha with rage anew, and she clenched her fists in anger. She had never forgotten how she had been humiliated that day. She thought of it everyday. She thought about it every time she poured a glass of wine. She thought about it every time she stepped into a dress from her expensive collection. She thought about it every time and everywhere. She thought about it so much that it had become both an obsession and a tradition. And every time she thought about it, she was filled with a new thirst to drown herself in Olivia's blood. She wanted Olivia's soul so desperately that it was driving her crazy. Yes, it was still her very favorite option, the only one perhaps. Again, maybe that was why she had never considered any other option. She wanted Olivia dead and that was it!
But then, Devon had given his command and she couldn't go against it. Sasha still could not understand why Devon was stopping her from doing whatever she pleased with Olivia. In the past, she had killed a lot of mortals for lesser crimes, and Devon had simply not cared. He had never refused her anything before, especially when it came to her dealings with the mortals. Devon could care less. So, Sasha was struggling to understand why he was refusing her one this time around, especially as it was so important to her. Was he willingly doing this to her just to get her riled up? But why would Devon do that to her? He wasn't that petty. It didn't make any sense, but that seemed the only viable reason, as she knew very well that Devon was not doing this for the human. There was just no way!
Devon was the number one enemy of humans. He hated the humans so much that he would not have anything to do with them, especially not intimately. Some of the other demons who lived among humans, even the high placed demons, periodically had flings with beautiful humans. But Devon never reduced himself to that. He had plenty of his kind who were willing to be his flings, so he didn't need the worthless humans. The only business Devon had with the humans was receiving their service and being lord over those who dedicated themselves to him. That was all humans meant to him; lowly, worthless servants.
And this was why Sasha was so sure that Devon being protective of Olivia had nothing to do with him being soft or lenient or kind towards the mortal, but everything to do with getting on her nerves.
Either way, whatever his reason was, Sasha could not go against Devon's command. She wished there was a way she could take Olivia's soul without directly being involved, or without being the one who gave the command. A way to get the job done, without being involved, and yet get the satisfaction out of it. It was so difficult.
But then, Sasha was determined to make the best use of the opportunity. She hoped that Olivia was broken and desperate enough. If she was, then Sasha might probably ask her to take her own life in her presence, so she could watch and get the satisfaction she so desired. That would be so perfect. That way, she wouldn't have to disobey Devon's command, but still get what she wanted. Or, if she was feeling too merciful, she would have Olivia pledge to serve her for the rest of her days. That too would be satisfying.
As Sasha sat there fantasying about all the possible way she would deal with Olivia, the telephone rang. She quickly spun her seat around and picked up the receiver. The voice of the front desk receptionist came through.
"Hello, Your guest is here ma'am." The receptionist said. Sasha smiled, her red lipstick masked lips spreading so wide from side to side, almost into her ears.
"Send her up." She said into the receiver, then she replaced the telephone, crossed her hands and waited impatiently, with her eyes fixed on the door.
