Chereads / Unwilling Death, Reclaiming Dignity / Chapter 8 - Paving Future

Chapter 8 - Paving Future

After Lei Mingxing she leisurely streched inside the bed savoring every last second of her rejuvenating rest, until she remembered that she she wasn't alone.

Who knows what the teenager had been up to while she was knocked out.

She quickly sat up and looked around, but found him serenely sitting cross-legged on a stool not far away from her.

Lei Mingxing relaxed slightly and lied back down again, to wait for the teenager to finish his meditation, so that they could finally have a conversation.

But... the more time passed the more restless Lei Mingxing felt.

Puzzled, she looked around, not noticing anything unusual, except for the missing charred corpse, but that wasn't what made her feel uncomfortable.

Instead of continuing to observe her surroundings, Lei Mingxing closed her eyes.

...Maybe it had something to do with the surrounding Qi?

Lei Mingxing had a bad feeling.

As soon as she used her spiritual sense to feel the Qi around her, she discovered that Qi of all colors was swirling around them, attracting more Qi in the process.

Lei Mingxing's heart almost stopped when she realized this, she hurriedly jumped off the bed and ran to the teenager waking him from his meditative state.

Before she even touched him, his eyes swung open and he stood up, getting into a fighting stance while shielding Lei Mingxing.

But no matter how long he observed his surroundings, the expected ambush didn't occure.

Confused, the teenager turned around and looked at her.

The moment he stopped cultivating, Lei Mingxing heaved a sigh, as she watched the swirling Qi scatter. But this relief didn't last for long, she now faced the matter of awkwardly explaining why she had disturbed him.

Not quite sure how to begin her explanation, Lei Mingxing fell silent for a moment.

The teenager continued staring at her, still a bit unsure what got her so worked up but a hint of understanding appeared on his face.

"Are you worried about that charred corpse? I put it in the closet over there, so it wouldn't lie around so openly."

Oh, so that's where the dead mercenary disappeared to.

At least one of her worries was solved, but this didn't change the fact that she still had to admit the true motive of her actions. For their own safety.

She softly shook her head, a moment later she directly locked eyes with him, a determined expression on her face.

"You can't cultivate here."

The teenager raised his eyebrow, a strange feeling rose in his heart.

"Why?"

Lei Mingxing hesitated again, but continued.

"You're putting both of us in great danger."

She couldn't hide the suppressed fear in her voice as she said this.

Hearing the words 'great danger', the teenager felt that it was ridiculous, slightly annoyed he wanted to sit down and continue cultivating.

"Have you noticed that all kinds of different Qi gather around you while you're cultivating? And their number only increases? That you haven't encountered a bottleneck during your cultivation?"

The teenager's actions halted, he glanced up at her with a shocked expression that slowly turned into vigilance.

"How did you know?"

Despite her desperation, Lei Mingxing was glad that her arguments at least rang a bell inside him.

"You possess something known as Chaotic Physique, there are several different types, but these are some of their main characteristics."

Lei Mingxing calmed down while explaining, almost lost in thought, immersed in her memories.

"Although, this special physique actually isn't much of a benefit to you," Lei Mingxing continued with a bitter smile on her face, "All the other cultivators get a massive boost in their cultivation speed if you're near them while you are either meditating, experiencing extreme pleasure or extreme... pain."

Lei Mingxing's mouth felt extremely dry as she said the last word, her voice almost too quiet to catch.

The teenager's heart started beating faster listening to her explanation, fear crept up his spine and he had a feeling that Lei Mingxing was telling the truth.

"How did you know?"

Lei Mingxing wrestled with herself whether she should answer truthfully or not, but she finally chose to be honest with him.

"I... I also have a Chaos Physique."

A heavy silence hung in the room, neither of them saying anything, both too occupied with their own thoughts.

"So, where do you meditate then?"

There was still a hint of vigilance in the teenager's voice, and he carefully observed Lei Mingxing's every action.

"..."

This topic wasn't any easier for Lei Mingxing to talk about, but she knew that she had to be honest with the other and reveal all her cards for the two to become collaboratores.

Well, not all her cards, at least her identity she would keep a secret.

"...I only started cultivating two days ago, I haven't meditated yet."

The teenager looked at Lei Mingxing with a baffled expression.

"So you're really only at the Qi Gathering stage?!"

He hadn't expected this answer at all. Even though he could tell that her cultivation base was low, he didn't think that was her actually strength. After all, there were countless concealment artifacts and techniques in this world.

But,... if what she said was the truth, there was something that didn't quite add up.

"If you're so weak, how did you melt the metal locks?"

The teenager looked at Lei Mingxing with obvious suspicion.

Hearing his words, Lei Mingxing became confused. Was that not normal?

Judging from the teenager's reaction, ...it probably wasn't.

But this also left Lei Mingxing feeling flustered, after all, she had no idea how to explain this to the teenager. This was her first time in both lives cultivating, everything she knew was information someone else had told her...

"..."

There was probably no point in lying or denying it now, was there? Even though the truth sounded pretty stupid and unbelievable.

"I don't know, I really only began cultivating two days ago, I used the Spirit Core inside the snake you killed to awaken my meridians!"

The teenager's suspicion of her was still not cleared, even after she told him this. Growing desperate, Lei Mingxing bit her lip before continuing.

"Here I will prove it to you."

She got ready to let out all the little inner Qi she had, but the teenager stopped her just in time.

"No, you don't need to," the teenager sighed and rubbed the area between his eyebrows, "Rather, what is your plan now? And where do you plan on meditating if we can't do it here?"

Finally, a question that wasn't as difficult to answer!

"I planned on searching for a way to earn money in town, as for cultivation... we probably have to find a suitable place somewhere in the Dark Spirit Woods..."

Lei Mingxing's voice became a bit quieter in the latter half of the sentence, as she realized how badly thought through her entire plan really was.

The teenager nodded helplessly at her plan.

"Okay, so how specifically do you plan on earning money?"

"..."
