Chereads / The (Not) Angel and Her Inquisitor / Chapter 16 - chapter 16

Chapter 16 - chapter 16

"You were friends back in school... Corin—" someone said, but Penny wasn't listening.

Ethan at the demons. Right now, while Penny was wasting precious minutes to shake the truth out of this piece of shit, Ethan was with the demons.

Demons never kill quickly. Demons never kill painlessly. Their goal is the soul, but they will never let go of a person who falls into their hands until they have played enough. It nourishes them, gives them strength. Demons are able to control the human mind so that each second of their stay will be equal to a year.

Demons are scary and dangerous.

The demons will be in trouble when Penny comes to them. However, as well as Ethan.

I wanted to break Corin's neck. To feel how the vertebrae crunch under her fingers, to suck in her last breath, to see how her bright eyes glazed over.

"You deserted," Rick said quietly. "Despite the fact that you are the girl and daughter of the Bishop, you should be executed for this.

"What was I to do?" Corin shrieked.

"How many of them are there?" Penny asked. "How much, well!

"Probably more than fifty," Sean said. "The request to send a bomber to the lair has already been sent, but you understand...

Penny understood. Bombers were the greatest value, requests to use them were processed for weeks. And all this time, Ethan will be with the demons.

Penny will raze the whole world to the ground, but he will not allow this to happen.

"It's all because of you," Corinne said quietly. There were angry tears in her eyes, she wanted to somehow justify herself, to throw her guilt on someone else. "The High Inquisitor is mad because of you, it's all you, you're spoiling him!" You're breaking everything around you, fallen like poison! Because of you, the alpha vampire bit him, do you think I don't know?! Do you think you haven't seen it? If it weren't for that, he wouldn't have needed to storm the lair so soon, he could have waited quietly! Because of you, his blood fell into the hands of demons, and now, while you've been wandering around all day...

Penny hit her after all. Not thinking much about the technique, not even aiming, and with pleasure watched how Corinne held on to her sore cheek. Penny looked up and looked at the others with a heavy gaze: this time no one held her back.

"The High Inquisitor of the demons," Penny said. Her voice faltered, but it didn't really matter. "I don't think you need to explain what that means. I'm going to go there and save him. So I suggest you come with me.

"Penny...

"It's madness, fallen," Jeff said. "We just can't get out of there. Did you hear Sean? More than five dozen!

"Then," Penny said quietly, "then at least we can spare the High Inquisitor from his torment." He'd do the same for every one of you. I couldn't be around this morning. And I want to fix everything. Either you go with me, or you get out of the way.

She exhaled and clenched her fists.

Penny was still stupid. And still she could think of nothing but the High Inquisitor.

Eaton.

***

As much as Penny wanted to go to the demons at the same second, she had to spend time going to the armory. Pistols, a machine gun, a machete — especially for the alpha — explosive grenades... Penny did her best to calm herself down, collecting everything she could carry. Not much, really, otherwise she simply wouldn't be able to move quickly. Damn her small height and cat-like weight!

Fifty demons. You will greatly regret that you penetrated the earth.

"I need more cartridges." For M4, against demons," Penny said. "Where are they?"

"Fallen men can't take up arms," someone said quietly. "It's against the rules, only inquisitors and commissars are allowed.

Before Penny could explain to the unaware how wrong he was, Sean beat her to it.

"Failed. He walked over to the ammo rack, rummaged through the shelves, and handed Penny a few boxes. "Do you know how to use it?" Sean caught a heavy gaze and raised his hands. "Understood.

"Demons will affect you," Corin said grimly. God knows why, but she was standing right there, next to everyone, shoving ammunition into her pockets. Her hands were pounding, her eyes were wet. She sniffed and ran her tactical gloved hand over her face in irritation. "They will pull out all the bad things that are in you, you won't even have time to approach.

"Corinne." Penny said admonishingly. "I'm much scarier than demons right now. She shook out a feather from the collar of her jacket that had come out of nowhere. "It's time to move out.

"No one will let us take the jeeps out of the garages.

"They will," Penny said confidently. "Sean, in the absence of the High Inquisitor, you are in command of the squad. You can assign reconnaissance missions at any time. So we will investigate.

Sean looked at Penny strangely and then nodded.

"You've said more tonight than you did last year. I thought you never really understood what was going on around you.
