Chapter 14 - Romance in Provence (3)

Richard said: "What does it matter if you wear make-up or not? I think the most beautiful thing is natural beauty, and you're much more natural now than with make-up. I never tell lies. When you walked in, didn't you notice that many people were looking at you, especially men?"

Bai Yun said, "I remember you saying yesterday that everyone's life is a novel, and everyone plays their own role on the stage of their own life, and no matter what role they play, the key is to play it well. Since you insist that I'm an Oriental beauty, I'll play your Oriental beauty, haha.

Richard said, "I'll be the Oriental Beauty's bodyguard or escort."

Bai Yun said, "You are so romantic, I think you should be called the Cloud Protector. Let's finish our food and go out."

Richard said, "Yes, you know the town we are in today is Aix, some say it is the most elegant town in the south of France. Hey, there might be something you're most interested in."

White Cloud said, "What's so special about this town? What makes you think I'd be interested in it?"

Richard said, "What else is there to say? Didn't you say you wanted to come to Provence to experience the rich artistic atmosphere? Well, I think it's better if I don't say anything, you'll find out in a minute."

Bai Yun knew that Richard was trying to tell her something, so she gave him a look, but the more secretive Richard was, the more curious Bai Yun became. After a cup of cappuccino and a few bites of bread, Bai Yun dragged Richard out of the café.

As he walked along, Bai Yun greedily enjoyed the view of the beautiful city. Baiyun found it to be a quiet and elegant city. He particularly liked the two rows of French sycamores that joined the Mirabeau boulevard as soon as he entered the city, and the various fountains scattered in every square, street corner and even in private gardens in Aix, adding a fresh and cool feeling to the city.

Richard tells White Cloud that the original name of Aix is derived from the Latin word for "water", and that in 122 BC the Roman generals discovered that the springs could cure illnesses, so they called the city the "City of Water". This is probably why the city is full of fountains, and it is certainly said to be the 'best place in Provence'.

Of all the fountains that Baiyun has seen, the most impressive is the largest fountain in Aix, the Fountain of the Statue of the Round Pavilion. Located at the exit of the train station on the Place des Generaux de Gaulle, Richard, like a professional guide, told Baiyun about this magnificent fountain, which is 32 metres in diameter and 12 metres high. While listening to Richard's presentation, Baiyun looks at the beautiful fountain: the bronze statues of angels and swans on the circular pool and the majestic lion give the fountain a lively and dignified look. At the top of the fountain stand three marble statues designed by different designers, with different symbolic meanings in each of the three directions: the one facing the boulevard represents justice; the one facing Avignon represents art; and the one facing Marseille represents agriculture. Against the azure sky, the water from this fountain looks like holy water, making Baiyun wonder if there is a heaven, then perhaps the holy water in heaven is just like this.

Richard took Baiyun for a short stroll and when he saw a bicycle rental place, he asked Baiyun, "Do you want to take a bike ride?" Bai Yun readily agreed. So the two of them rented bicycles and wandered around like two happy children, walking and pushing their bicycles when they came across a crowded place. In less crowded places, they seemed to be in a secret bicycle race, one minute Bai Yun was ahead, the next Richard overtook him ... Their laughter and the Provencal sunshine showered the city together, and in this beautiful and warm place, the two of them shared a simple joy together and enjoyed the beautiful The time was beautiful.

To Bai Yun's surprise, from time to time, when walking through the streets of Aix, he would find a square bronze mark with the letter "C" engraved on it.

Richard winked and said mysteriously, "Guess what, it might have something to do with what interests you most today, may I give you a heads up? It has to do with the art master."

Bai Yun said to himself, "C? Aix-en-Provence ... You mean with Paul Cezanne, the Impressionist?"

Richard said, "I knew you'd guess. The bronze mark with the letter 'C' on it is a silent guide that you have to follow to find traces of Cezanne's life in Aix-en-Provence, including his home, the school he attended, the studio he used... ..."

White Cloud's eyes lit up and he said excitedly, "How do you know so much? If I were you, I'd be a tour guide!"
