Once the bus dropped them off in the city centre, Annie and Jen wandered around for half an hour to be absolutely sure they were not being tailed. Once they were convinced it was safe, they headed out of the city. It took them four hours to walk to Queensferry and to cross the Forth Bridge, from there they pushed north, skirting the towns of Cowdenbeath and Kinross until they reached Loch Ore. They sat on the banks of the loch and ate the sandwiches and as dusk claimed the skies, they undressed and packed their clothes into their bags. They shifted and picking the bags up in their teeth, they ran across fields and through woods to Kinhaven where Pete had arranged for them to stay with his parents for the night. They were both exhausted and after Pete’s mother cooked them some food they both fell into their beds and were asleep as soon as their heads hit their pillows.
