As Avon approached the border wall, he could see the guards standing at their posts. The sight of their armor and weapons reminded him of the dangers that lay ahead. He took a deep breath and approached them with confidence.
"Halt! What business do you have here?" said a tall, muscular-looking guard, blocking Avon's path.
"I am here to go to the Gloom Tree Forest and hunt some beasts for my quests," Avon replied calmly, trying not to let his nerves show.
The guard narrowed his eyes and scrutinized Avon, looking for any sign of deception. After a moment, he gestured for Avon to present his ID and mission certificates.
Avon quickly retrieved the necessary documents from his backpack and handed them over. The guard examined them carefully, checking the details and verifying their authenticity.
"Hmm, everything looks good. Now, pay the toll, and we will let you pass," the guard said after he checked and confirmed the documents.
Avon felt a knot in his stomach as he reached for his smartwatch. He knew he had barely enough credits to cover the toll, and he couldn't afford to lose any more money.
With a bitter expression, he transferred the required amount to the guard's account, watching as his balance dwindled to almost nothing.
"Alright, you can go now," the guard told Avon, stepping aside to let him through.
Avon nodded in thanks and continued on his way, his mind racing with thoughts of what lay ahead. He knew the Gloom Tree Forest was a dangerous place, filled with all manner of beasts and creatures. But he also knew that he had to succeed as this was the first step to him gaining strength for his revenge.
As Avon entered the outer reaches of the forest, he realized how ominous and gloomy the place was "I guess Gloom Tree Forest was called gloom tree for no reason" he thought to himself.
As Avon continued walking through the forest, the air grew thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. The trees grew taller and denser, their branches creating an impenetrable canopy overhead. He felt a shiver run down his spine as he gazed around, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement.
Despite the ominous atmosphere, Avon pushed forward, his desire for power getting the better of him. Suddenly, a rustling sound from the nearby bushes caught his attention, and he tensed up, ready for anything.
As the bushes parted, Avon's eyes widened in surprise. Standing before him was a creature he had never seen before. It resembled a moose, but with razor-sharp horns instead of antlers. Its fur was a deep, almost black color, and its eyes glinted with an intelligence that was both unnerving and fascinating.
"System use analysis," Avon muttered under his breath, activating skill. A holographic display appeared before his eyes, providing him with detailed information on the creature before him.
[Creature: Twin Horned Antelope (E+)
Creature Description: The Twin Horned Antelope is a mutation of an antelope that has evolved with sharp antlers on its head to hunt prey.]
Avon's heart pounded in his chest as he gazed at the creature. With a deep breath, he took a step forward, with his arm producing an energy blade.
( Note: author here, The whole energy blade thing is explained in the Tier one components chapter in the auxiliary chapters so read that, if you are too lazy just know that it is an ability of his arm component and requires 5 units of energy to use per minute)
He felt his heart channel the energy to his hand that was required to sustain the blade. As he neared the antelope, it caught attention of him and to his surprise, it met his gaze steadily, almost as if it was challenging him to make the first move. And so, Avon stepped closer, his heart racing with excitement and an urge to kill.
Then in an instant the distance between them was shortened to a few meters and Avon swung his blade at the creature, The antelope tried to use its horns to block the pure white blade of energy but failed miserably when the blade sliced through its horns like butter.
Even Avon was shocked at the sharpness of the blade but quickly recovered as he was currently in battle and couldn't afford to be careless.
As the antelope stumbled back in pain, Avon took the opportunity to strike again. He lunged forward, bringing the blade down on the creature's neck with a swift and powerful stroke. The Twin Horned Antelope fell to the ground and watched as the Twin Horned Antelope writhed on the ground, its life force ebbing away. He couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt for taking the creature's life, but he reminded himself that it was necessary for his revenge.
Then Avon plunged his energy blade into the antelope's heart and gave the beast a painless death.
