Chapter 54 - Mon Amour

"Finally…" Zhao Wei had a look of anticipation in his eyes.

The day which he had been waiting for had eventually arrived and he couldn't be more excited about what was to come.

What lies beyond the confines of Sun Feather City is a world of blood, fighting, extreme competition, and rare resources.

It was a more brutal jungle.

'Killing for resources exists in almost every reality but it's good there isn't a deficit here in Fan Universe. Even so, the more rare and powerful a treasure was the more many would want to compete and kill for it.' Zhao Wei thought of what awaited him. It was an inevitable way of nature.

Zhao Wei also needed a lot of potent resources as he continued to grow stronger and stronger just like any other cultivator.

But unlike your typical Xianxia main character who needs the treasures of a whole Sacred Land to progress one realm, Zhao Wei's requirements weren't that exaggerated.

'It doesn't mean that I am not greedy for extremely large amounts of treasures. I will take all if I can, the more the merrier. The culture of never leaving anything - not even a single speck of dust - to your competitors and enemies must be upheld, hehe.'

Zhao Wei was currently dressed in a simple grey Daoist robe that made him look ordinary like a mortal farmer but the beautiful and artistic workmanship hidden underneath would make one question their existence.

His black hair that cascaded gently to his broad shoulders shimmered ever-so-slightly under the auspicious rays of the morning sun.

It was during the dawning hours and a purple hue could be seen spreading over horizon skies.

Zhao Wei gave his worn-out courtyard and living quarters a once-over before sighing emotionally.

"It is time to move forward." An air of nonchalance surrounded him as he slowly walked toward the exit.

Man wasn't meant to stagnate in one place and as a cultivator, Zhao Wei knew that he was going to be quite the nomad and adventurer.

The Fan Universe was extremely huge making Zhao Wei determined to travel all over the place even if he wasn't confident enough in unlocking all the regions.

Unlike Earth, navigating through all the places in the Fan Universe wasn't an impossibility. There existed several solutions to complete the almost impossible task. Just grasp the primal laws of Time and Space and voila, you can easily travel to any uncharted region that you wish.

Alas, those concepts were too early for him to think of when he couldn't even fly through the air or simply levitate.

"Brother Wei!" Someone shouted without care from behind Zhao Wei.

He didn't need to turn his head to know who it was and since he was taking his time to walk, whoever it was quickly moved to catch up with him.

"Did you honestly need to shout, little sister?" Zhao Wei asked in a playful tone.

"Hmph!" Zhao Yufei puffed up her cheeks with a cute pout on her rosy lips.

After a few seconds, she then exhaled lightly. "I can do whatever I want. You can't dictate my dos and don'ts, you mean Father."

Zhao Wei lightly arched his eyebrow and smiled in amusement.

"Rebellious phase, huh? Oh, I see. But I don't remember having such an idiotic daughter."

"Tsk." Zhao Yufei clicked her tongue before releasing a light chuckle.

'You are really lucky you didn't get an Immortal Asian parent.' Zhao Wei thought mildly in amusement.

Zhao Yufei saw him smiling from the corners of her eyes and wondered what was the reason for that.

"What is it?" She couldn't help but get curious.

"Uhm…" Zhao Wei seemed as if he was about to say something but stopped midway as if he was being indecisive.

Zhao Yufei gave him an anticipatory gaze, wanting him to finish whatever he was about to say.

"Uhm… It is, uhm."

Zhao Yufei widened her eyes at him.

"It's nothing." Zhao Wei brushed it off instantly and left her completely hanging like a still pendulum.

She frowned heavily at being made a fool of and seeing him acting casual and in high spirits made her even more irritated.

"You are very childish, you know that." Zhao Yufei scolded him with a stern look

"You have to deal with it, Mon amour." Zhao Wei replied in a casual tone.

"M-moni amoure? What is that?" Zhao Yufei knitted her beautiful eyebrows.

'Hmm, her attention can easily be swept in an instant.' Zhao Wei chuckled internally.

"It means 'My Love', 'Darling' or whatever corniness you can think of." Zhao Wei explained.

"It's a foreign language from the ancient times in another space-time continuum." Mischief could be seen in his deep eyes.

"Ancient times? Space-time continuum?" Zhao Yufei was utterly clueless about Zhao Wei's strange vocabulary but after hearing about his explanation of the word "Mon Amour", a pink blush started spreading on her soft white cheeks and the tips of her cute ears turned slightly red.

"Idiot! Imbecile! Who's your darling, hmph!" Zhao Yufei stammered angrily before harrumphing and turning her head to the side.

She didn't dare to face Zhao Wei.

And here she was claiming to be immune to his hubris.

Zhao Wei laughed unrestrainedly at her cute and embarrassed self.

"A Tsundere, now that's a first and funny."

"You are super weird."

"I know."

The remainder of the journey was marked by comfortable silence and the two finally arrived at the rendezvous point.

Ye Lingyun smiled when he saw the two youths. He had arrived quite early even before dawn.

Ye Lingyun just wanted to finish his task and open a new chapter for the two outstanding geniuses.

He just hoped Lord Guanjun would be pleased with his findings this time round.

"Are you two ready?" Ye Lingyun asked with his hands clasped behind him, directly skipping useless greetings and jumping straight to the point.

"I am good." Zhao Wei responded with a terse reply.

"I think so too." Zhao Yufei poked her cheek with her index.

"Good. Let's set off immediately then." Ye Lingyun nodded as he swiftly led them toward a huge lavish carriage parked a few hundred meters away from the Zhao Clan's Main Gate.

Along the way, they were only met with looks of jealousy, envy, longing, and pride from their fellow Zhao disciples.

Zhao Wei and Zhao Yufei currently belonged to a whole different world than them.

Zhao Yufei's eyes scattered around for some time as if she was specifically looking for someone but then she released a silent melancholic sigh after meeting failure.

She then entered the carriage with a resolute look on her face.

Zhao Wei, who was behind her, saw through her inner turmoil and immediately knew the cause.

'A sentimental little girl that's now forced to circumnavigate the world on her own without the presence of family.' Zhao Wei mused.

'We need the character development, now do we? She needs to realize that the cultivation journey is quite cruel and selfish even to family.' He then used his telescopic wide-range vision to scan his surroundings.

'One-armed old timer, so you were hiding there? What was his name again? Hmm… he was a nameless nobody I guess. The author did you no justice.' Zhao Wei shook his head with a sigh escaping his lips.

'I've never read a story about a one-armed swordsman, but some old Wuxia films featured plots like that in my past life.' Zhao Wei entered the carriage, ignoring the fact that he had left the one-armed grandpa in extreme shock.

'A one-armed sword immortal, huh?' Zhao Wei pondered in passing as the carriage began to move.

'Poor Todo, you can't clap them cheeks anymore.'

Zhao Wei looked out of the window as the trees gradually flashed by and the Zhao Clan's structures started to turn smaller and smaller with each revolution of the four wheels.
