Chapter 6 - 6

Third person POV

"An anonymous tip came in from an inmate. And the inmate said he knew where Eden was and gave us an address." Ben says as he informs the news reporters surrounding his house the story him and Michaela made up of how they got Eden back so the police wouldn't know they were at the 828 compound that blew up. "That address les us to a factory and my brother and I started searching. And that's when we heard someone, a child's voice, then we followed that behind a corner." Michaela says giving her statement to the detectives down at the precinct. "There she was. Eden. You know she'd been missing for 2 years so she's... she's changed a lot, but it's my daughter. We found her." Ben says "She had no idea where she'd been. She was in shock, and she still is." Michaela says. "And Angelina Meyer and Marlene Evans?" The detective asks. "I'm not sure where Marlene is, our source didn't know, but I will find her. I'm not giving up." He recites trying not to cry. "We don't know what happened to Angelina, whether she alive or dead. It's not our focus for now Eden, and trying to find Marlene." He says continuing his speech. "It's quite the coincidence though. Your niece appearing the night an 828 compound went up in a fire ball." The detective speculates. "We were on the other side of the city finding Eden. Can we be done?" Michaela asks wanting to go home. "So I'm asking all of you, please. My family's been through a lot. My young daughters... my young daughters been through a lot. So please respect her privacy. And if you have any information on the whereabouts of my daughter's girlfriend Marlene, please let me know. Thank you." He requests concluding his speech and going inside."How is she?" Cal asks his twin who was laying next to a sleeping Eden. "Finally resting." She whispers. "How are you? Do you need anything?" He asks trying not to upset her. "No I'm fine thanks. Since when did you do laundry?" She asks not ready to talk about it yet. "I'm just cleaning out the room for a bit so Eden feels like she has her own space." He says while he throws clothing into a laundry basket. "You look exhausted." She states not bothering to sugarcoat it. He just looks at her with a really? look. "What's going on with you?" She pry's wanting to know what's going on with him. "During the explosion, I had this calling. It's not enough!" He says with a devastated look. "What does that mean?" She asks completely clueless to what he's on about. "The lifeboat is sinking, and we are helpless to stop it." "No, no. You're not, okay? You are not helpless. In order to save the lifeboat, you have to follow the callings. Okay? You just need to remember." She says interrupting him. "I am following the callings. And this one made it crystal clear that our memories, our callings, they're not enough to balance out the shit that's coming. They're not enough to save the lifeboat." He says making his point. "Okay. Well, then you try. All right? You don't give up. Ever!" She argues as he sniffles wiping away a stray tear. "You said "shit" She whispers in disbelief making him chuckle knowing that he doesn't swear. "Don't tell dad." He says before said father knocks on the door waking up Eden. "Mommy? Aunty?" She asks as he peeks his head in. "Its ok it's just daddy." Cal says trying to soothe her when she looks down in disappointment. "It's all right. She just needs to get used to her surroundings. It's all new to her. She just needs time." He says before pausing in thought. "I'll see if I can find some of her old baby things. Something familiar." He says smiling sadly at his daughter as she turns to face the wall before closing the door.

"How are you really doing?" He asks not wanting to pressure her. "I feel like a hole has been ripped inside of me. At least before all of this she was just missing and not dead. But now she's actually gone and... I don't know what I'm gonna do without her." She says before the tears start running again as she hugs her brother, letting it all out. "I'm drawing something for my mommy and auntie." Eden quietly says while Olive brushes her hair. "Every time she calls Angelina "Mommy" I just... I can't." Cal says sitting down on the bed. "And she pierced her ears. Mom would have hated that." Olive reply's. "Has she drawn anything that might be a calling?" He asks. "I don't think so. But I've been thinking about Saanvi's theory. About callings being memories?" Olive says "From our time in the glow. The divine consciousness." He summarizes. "Yeah, and like what you said earlier, about how you don't have enough to save the lifeboat?" "Uh huh?" "Well Eden was never in the lifeboat so she doesn't have any memories to pull from, yet she gets callings." Olive continues. "Okay, which means... There must be another way to get information from the divine consciousness." She finishes. "How does she get them though? Does dad have magical sperm or some shit like that?" Olive asks making Cal laugh as Ben returns with a basket full of Eden's old toys. "Hey." He says as Cal gets up from the bed and stumbles back a little. "Hey, you okay?" Olive asks. "Yeah just stood up too fast. We'll be right here if you need us." He says as him and Olive wall out to give him some time with Eden. "Alright. Hey sweetheart, look at all these toys. Got some of your old toys. Look at this. Look at this guy." He rambles as Eden looks warily at him. "Do you remember him? Look, look, look, look, look, look. A boat. It says Eden. See that?" He says as she looks down at her drawing of him. "My mommy says you're a bad man. Bad man. Bad man." She says scribbling over his face. He picks up the drawing disheartened as she runs to the bed. "Leave me alone I want my mommy and auntie!" She yells.Today on the 828-Gate podcast, Aaron Glover discusses passenger Eagan Tehrani. Who is being released from prison after reportedly providing- Olive pauses the podcast on her Dads phone as she walks into the bathroom. "You okay dad?" She asks as he looks in the mirror, tearing up. "Eden's home. As far as she knows, she's a hostage. I hate that I scare her. I wish Marlene was here. She is the only one who could calm her down. If this is what she thinks a bad man looks like, It's time to lose the beard. What? You think I should keep the mountain men look?" He asks as Olive looks at him like 'Are you serious?' "No. No. Definitely not." She chuckles. He sighs looking down at the scissors. "What's wrong?" She asks "It's just, all the times I've had a beard your mom always helped. Yeah" He mumbles going to cut it holding the scissors the wrong way. She silently stops him before he accidentally cuts himself. "I see so much of her in you." He sighs as she looks sadly at him. "That was the best compliment you could have ever given me. Okay." She says going back to trimming. "Now don't slit my throat." Ben jokes as she chuckles.

Ding dong, the wunch is DEAD! BAGELS! For everyone. Any B99 fans here?. The door bell goes off and Ben rushes to the door and sees Anna, one of the people Angelina stayed with. "Thank you for coming I wasn't sure who else to call." He sighs letting her in. "I got a few things. Some clothes." She says. "I'm just trying to find some way to reach Eden so she feels safe. And since she stayed with you I thought... I don't know how you find it in you to show such grace. After all you've been through." She says cutting him off. "I learned from a very, very good woman." He says smiling at her before leading her up the stairs. "Maybe you can help her understand who her family is and isn't." He says as they approach the bedroom door. "Of course." She reassured him. "I'll be right outside." He says as she opens the door. "Aunty?" Eden asks hopefully. "Oh no it's just me honey. Oh I missed you." She's says as Bens phone rings. "Hello? Who is this?." He asks after a moment of silence. "How's my little girl?" Angelina asks. "Don't hang up. I just want to talk to Eden." She says. "You should be dead. You need to be dead." He whispers as Marlene struggles against the ropes and the gag in her mouth trying to alert him that she's alive. "This is when she takes her nap. She really likes her schedule. Make her a glass of warm milk." Angelina says. "I'm not taking advice from you about my own daughter after you killed the other one." He states. "With a little cinnamon. It helps her too sleep." She continues. "Don't ever call me again." He says. "I'm the only family that Eden knows." She yells before Ben hangs up making me sigh and slump against the wall."She's still upset but I'm sure that will change in time." Anna informs Ben as he opens the door. "Thank you for trying. This is... his is just hell." He sighs. "Well I'm happy to come back as often as you need. I hate what 828 has done to us." She says on her way out before hesitating. "She was much closer with Marlene. Sometimes Angelina would get angry and throw things so Eden would always climb into the bed with Marlene and ask her to read stories to her. Hell sometimes she would completely disobey Angelina and only listen to her. Once when Angelina was in the bathroom I heard her say that she loved her more and that she wished she was her mother and not Angelina. Your daughter was very special." She says, smiling at Ben before she left. He smiles in appreciation before closing the door.Olives POV"See this is a good one. The oracle of Delphi wore sapphires to help clarify her visions." Olive reads out to Eden who was on her lap hugging a toy llama. "Like your earrings." I say brushing her hair back behind her ear as Ben walks in. "Dad, I was just reading about the oracle of Delphi, and...and, she wore sapphires." I begin before he gently cuts me off. "You know what Ol? Not today. No mythology, no callings. Let's just work on what's right in front of us. I wanna show Eden the new me." He says sitting in front of us. "What do you think Eden? No beard. See? I'm not a bad man I'm just your daddy." He says quietly. "I want my auntie." She says as forcefully as she can.

Third person POV

"I shouldn't even be talking to you right now." Cal says into the phone while he looks at Eden. "Didn't you give her the warm milk with cinnamon? She needs me let me talk to her." Angelina cries. "You don't get to make demands. You'll never be able to understand the pain you've caused my family. Especially my Dad and Olive. The only things I care about is helping him reconnect with his daughter and helping my sister through her girlfriends death. To heal." He says. "Right and I can help with the first one. There are things you don't know about her. She's scared of bubble baths. She loves to talk in funny voices. Always skips the letter R on the ABCs. She loves butterfly kisses. Just please let me talk to her. I just... I just wanna let her know that she's ok that she's safe." Angelina sobs as Marlene struggles even more. "Under one condition. You have to tell her what that her Dad loves her. That he always has. That he's a good man. And that her Auntie misses her and will always love her cause you know what? She hasn't even been asking for you anymore. Whenever Dad gets to close it's not I want my mommy. It's always I want my Auntie." He demands. "Okay. Put her on." She whispers into the phone. "Hi my Angel." She says. "Hi mommy." Eden replies. "Are you ok?" She asks. "Where's Auntie?" She asks making her pause. "Um Auntie's busy sweetheart." She says annoying the 3 year old. "I wanna talk to Auntie." She says. "No sweetie.. I wanna talk to Auntie." She Eden yells. "Okay I'll put her on." Angelina says shocking Cal. "Hello?" Marlene says. "Hi Auntie!" Eden grins. "Hi princess. How are you?" She asks her niece. "I'm ok. Can you please sing to me?" Eden requests breaking Angelina's heart just that little bit more. "Of course.

I'll love you forever.

I'll like you for always.

As long as I'm living.

My baby you'll be.

She sings as Ben walks into the room. "I miss you, love you Auntie." Eden says. "I miss you as well. I love you too sweetheart." Marlene says making Ben think it's Angelina. "NO." He yells going for the phone. "Ben?" She asks as Ben hangs up. "Dad wait that's not-" Cal tries. "What have you done?" He asks walking out. "Auntie." Eden coo's hugging the llama, resting her head on it. She looks at Cal as he chases after Ben."How could you let her get to you? After everything Cal why?" Ben asks as Cal quietly sits down in front of him. "I just wanted to help. I thought maybe if Angelina told her, that you weren't that bad, that if she's safe with you then... Cal trails off. "I don't want Angelina anywhere near this family. Ever. How do you not get that?" He asks. "I do get that!" He exclaims. "No you don't. Your connected to her in some way that I can't understand." Ben yells standing up. "How can you say that? I'm not connected... You are! I don't understand how but you are." Ben interrupts his son. "And I don't know if your strong enough to keep her out." Ben states. "For two years I've been trying to get you to love me again." Cal says standing up. "I love you more than anything, but I am thin to protect my kid damnit." He exclaims. "I'm your kid too Dad." Cal says, his voice breaking at the end. "Cal." He begins. "Nah I get it. Loud and clear." He says heading upstairs forgetting to tell him Marlene was okay. "Cal!" He says trailing off.

Olive POV

"Um hi... uh... I know that your probably asleep or whatever but Tj, I think I just found something. Um okay remember when Saanvi found sapphire at Eureka? I mean it's like whenever unexplainable phenomena the ark piece, the tail fin, my dads glowing hand, it's like sapphire was the finger print to a miracle. Well I think there's more to it.In history sapphire had been referenced in myths and legends and religion. And get this. Moses was standing on sapphire when god gave him the Ten Commandments. The oracle of Delphi used sapphire to get her prophecies and Eden's earrings are sapphires, so was Marlene's birth stoneIt like whenever humans have been in communication With the divine, it was thanks to sapphire. If these prophets did it, maybe we, you all can use sapphire to get limitless callings, get back into the divine consciousness. I think that this can be the way we save the lifeboat.Anyway so yeah we found Eden but Mars is gone and the funeral is next month so if you do come down bring a suit or something. I'll see you later. Bye Tj." Olive says ending the voice mail.
