Chapter 1 - Prologue

I can't move.

—Crack.

Fire. Fire crackled all around me.

The fiery tendrils engulfed everything around me, every home, every farm, every…

Everyone.

All the screaming had all but melted away in the fire, even the few that had escaped the flames simply laid splayed across the blackened forest, sliced apart by mounted knights.

Nothing remained of the village but blackened ash and melting corpses.

I urged myself to move, I couldn't, every sensation felt muted even as I screamed for my body to move.

…This is a dream.

No… I knew it was, the reality I denied was that it was more than that.

A vision.

Desperately I prayed to gods I didn't believe in, I prayed to wake up, I prayed I wouldn't see him.

"Naive aren't you?"

He's here.

Like a ghost he appeared in front of me.

Dark hair and red eyes, a tall stature… just like me.

Prime.

"Everyone died, you know that right." Prime gestured offhandedly at the fiery rubble and shot me a grin. "This is real, everything is, but nothing is certain yet."

"There's nothing I can do, but you… you can still save everyone." Prime continued to speak as he stepped closer.

His palms dug into my shoulders and his eyes peeled open far more than a human should be able to, his red irises nearly touching mine.

"Look, think, absorb the information around you, what can you do to save everyone?" His voice was tinged with a playful madness.

"Or will you run away?"

Tears ran down his cheeks and flowed down mine as he pushed his cheek against mine.

"Oh weaver of fate, bearer of destiny, can a coward break away from his fate?"

Prime knelt onto the ground and clasped his hands together in a crazed prayer.

"Can someone truly escape their suffering if made aware of it? Or will they act to fulfill their destiny even still?"

A sword appeared in his hands and with a slight flourish he pierced it through my chest.

"Wake up."
