Over the next two weeks, Chris scampered around his grandparents' home, moping. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get Charli out of his mind. A deep yearning plagued him every minute of every day. Now that he was actually alive, and he and Charli could finally be together, nobody could find her.
Even after his parents moved back into the castle home with him, he still couldn't draw enough comfort or joy to fill the emptiness and yearning that grew inside of him like a deep black wormhole threatening to devour all forms of life around it.
"Sweetie, why don't you come with us to watch a movie?" Mrs. Kempton suggested, with concern.
"Let him be, honey. He's just come out of a year-long coma. It'll take a while for him to find his feet," Mr. Kempton assured her.
"You're thinking about her, aren't you – Charli?" Mrs. Kempton asked, ignoring her husband.
Chris nodded distraughtly. "I need to find her. I miss her. She's – awesome. I wish you could meet her."
