After some seconds, just like a miracle, he sighted Mira dashing toward him with a small water bottle in one hand and a towel in the other hand. His eyes lit up and his expression brightened as he envisioned her as an angel in her white floral dress who had suddenly descended from heaven with wide sparkly wings.
" Zach? " she frowned while watching his foolish expression as he gawked at her and her cheeks turned red.
Her eyes darted around the area quickly and she started wiping the sweats on his forehead with the towel. " Take this." She uncapped the water bottle and he got out of his trance and started drinking.
" Where did the evil stepmother go." He heaved a sigh of relief after drinking the water and dropped the buckets then held her hands while also looking around anxiously.
Mira chuckled and whispered, " I left her in the kitchen while she was very busy. and stop calling her evil, she took very good care of our baby." She pouted.
Zach looked down with a sigh and gloomily muttered, " Hmmm, I'm sorry... I wish our miracle__"
" Don't start it again." She sighed and shook her head at how he had become a crybaby since he learned about their child. She gave him a hug which she always does, feeling surprised at how she had been the one comforting him and not the other way round.
He hugged her back and sniffed in her scent then muttered for the umpteenth time. " Mira, I'm sorry." Even though she had forgiven him, the guilt still ate him inside anytime their baby was brought up.
" It's okay Zach, it was not your fault," She whispered and couldn't remember how many times she had repeated the word since the truth was revealed. She remembered how Zach had come to the province with the haggard-looking girl called Diana, who had confessed that she was the one that had replied to the texts thinking that it was one of the girls that were swooning over Zach which was her job to tell them away.
She also sighed again and listened to his heartbeat for some seconds after hearing his sigh. She slowly looked up after a minute and their gazes instantly met.
Zach watched as she slowly closed her eyes and he also lowered his head slowly while closing his eyes.
They were just inches apart when a thundering roar instantly brought them back to reality.
"Mira!!!"
Mira glanced down and quickly covered her face then ran toward the woman who was glaring at them from a distance. " Mum Sara, when did you come out?" She asked while trying not to sound awkward.
" Tsk tsk tsk, you're so soft, child... Quick tell that punk that the food is ready... Urgh kids nowadays, so shameless. back in our days. . . ." the woman continued scoffing as she went back inside the house while Mira's cheeks turned red with each second.
She turned back and called out to Zach then quickly entered the house to help the woman serve the food.
Zach's eyes lit up after hearing food was done and he quickly poured one bucket of the water onto his leg which was still in the cow's dung and took the other bucket inside the farm. Apart from being nice to Mira and their baby, the next thing he liked about the woman was her delicious food which he always looked forward to every day.
After coming inside the house, he saw both women sitting across the small dining table in the wooden chairs. His eyes landed on the food and he sauntered forward while rubbing his palms together. " Mum Sara, what have we got today." He sat down beside Mira and attempted to open the bowl's lid when the woman yanked his hand away with a big spatula. " Ouch." He whined and quickly retracted his hand.
The woman scrunched up her nose and glanced at his feet. " Go inside and wash up then come back!" She snapped and he quickly jerked his head up. How did she know, and besides, she had washed it again after going inside the farm.
He placed a hand on his grumbling stomach and slowly stood up while staring at Mira who was obediently sitting on the chair with her head down.
" M..Mir__" He widened his eyes as a spoon came flying toward him which he quickly dodged and ran toward his room. ' Hmph.' He couldn't wait to take Mira and leave this place.
When he entered the room, his eyes landed on the wooden bedside table where a small frame was sitting. He sighed and sat down on the bed then gazed at it while caressing the little picture inside. ' hehe.' His little Miracle, she really did look like his little cat back at home except for her eyes which looked just exactly like his.
He knew it was too late to turn things back but he wanted no regret in the future anymore. He would take very good care of Mira no matter what it takes.
_____
Back in the dining area. The woman tapped her spoon anxiously on the table and wondered why the punk had not returned yet. " Mira, go see what is taking him long__" she paused as he suddenly appeared before them and sat down excitedly.
" Mum Sara, do you want me to serve you? I've washed all the clothes clean and even dusted the house, see how sparkly the desk looks...hehehe" he gazed at her anxiously and the woman gave him a scrutinizing look wondering what he was up to again.
" Mum Sara, please let me accompany Mira to the orphanage, I've finished all the work you assigned me," he pleaded rapidly and clasped both palms together. Since he came, the woman had not allowed him to have privacy with Mira which was also one of his punishments.
The woman looked between him and Mira and sighed after receiving their expectant gazes. " Okay." She nodded as she was also planning to visit the mayor today, to discuss a very important matter.
Zach stood up quickly and served her the food cheerfully. " Thank you so much, Mum Sara, you're the best... you're an ang__"
