Chereads / The Machiavellian Heir / Chapter 62 - Chapter 62

Chapter 62 - Chapter 62

Leaving the knight behind, I found myself drawn toward the red-light district. There was something unusual about the intensity of my desires when I encountered the baroness, and I wanted to delve deeper into the matter. Though I initially dismissed it as mere hormonal fluctuations, I couldn't shake off the idea that something was off so I investigated further, and what better way than to immerse myself in the heart of temptation?

Stepping into the heart of the red-light district, I was greeted by a provocative sight. The buildings lining the narrow streets stood tall and imposing, adorned with ornate facades that seemed to whisper tales of forbidden desires and hidden indulgence. Their architecture bore the marks of opulence, displaying intricate carvings and embellishments that hinted at the extravagant experiences awaiting within.

Positioned strategically outside these enticing establishments were women of beauty, their attire is carefully chosen to accentuate their charms and allure. Clad in delicate fabrics that clung seductively to their curves, they exuded an air of confidence and sensuality. Each gesture, each subtle movement, was meticulously crafted to entice the passing men, drawing them closer with promises of pleasure and forbidden fantasies.

The women's gazes, filled with a mixture of confidence and vulnerability, locked onto potential clients with magnetic intensity. Their eyes sparkled with unspoken promises, their lips curved into inviting smiles that hinted at a world beyond the confines of societal norms. From their positions, strategically arranged on the edges of the walkways, they engaged in a dance of seduction, their provocative gestures coaxing men to step into their realm of temptation. Elegant draperies framed the windows, providing a tantalizing glimpse into the lavish chambers within. From the upper floors, where the most exclusive experiences were rumored to unfold, women of extraordinary beauty leaned out, their eyes sparkling like stars, beckoning to those who sought the pinnacle of pleasure.

As I surveyed the surroundings of the red light district, I couldn't help but notice that the women's allure didn't captivate me in the same way as the Baroness did. Although a sense of lust still lingered, my gaze no longer immediately fixated on their bodies, allowing me to deduce their intentions from their behavior—something I failed to do with the Baroness.

"Hey, honey, don't you want to spend some time with me?" a feminine voice called out from my right. It was one of the women of the night, likely spotting me as a potential customer, choosing a younger man over an older one.

"Sorry, I prefer to watch," I quipped in rejection. She simply nodded and retreated, surprising me with her lack of persistence. I continued scanning the area, but none of the other women managed to entice me in the same way. It didn't make sense. If it were merely hormones, they wouldn't discriminate.

Suddenly, a loud, deep, primal echo reverberated through the air, causing people to scurry back to their homes with slight annoyance. I turned around and noticed a knight running in the direction of the city walls. Reacting swiftly, I grabbed his hand.

"What's going on?" I urgently asked, seeking answers.

"Demons have been spotted near the border. It seems a small skirmish is about to erupt," he replied, gently removing my hand from his arm. "You should get inside for safety."

"Demons, huh?" I muttered, about to inquire further, when I sensed an impending attack directed at the knight. Reacting on instinct, I conjured an ice shield in mid-air, positioning it in front of the knight just in time. With a sharp sound that seemed to cleave the air, a small, gritty black sword attached to a chain struck my ice shield, failing to penetrate fully.

My expression turned serious, and I instinctively activated my scanning ability. With heightened senses, I quickly identified a figure perched atop one of the buildings in the red light district. The figure's crimson skin stood out against the backdrop, its arms adorned with chains that wrapped tightly around them. Two prominent brown horns jutted from its head, giving it an even more menacing appearance. Its intense gaze locked onto me, as if it had been seeking me out specifically.

"Blue eyes," the figure muttered, its voice carrying an air of recognition. I stared back, perplexed by the connection it seemed to imply.

"Do I know you?" I called out, but there was no response. Turning my attention to the knight, who lay frozen on the ground, I leaned in and instructed, "Get out of here and seek assistance."

With the knight heeding my words and making his escape, the demon began to initiate a swirling motion with its chains, preparing to launch an attack. Reacting swiftly, I teleported in front of the demon, intercepting its impending attack.

"Focus here!" I commanded, my aura emanating a chilling presence that permeated the surroundings, causing the temperature to drop. Quickly unsheathing my sword I charged towards him about to strike his head of clean but the demon managed to retract his chains and blockingt my sword with the small black blades.

Undeterred, I maintained my relentless offensive, refusing to allow the demon to increase the distance between us. His movements were swift and calculated, his chains swirling and striking with deadly accuracy. I parried one of his sword strikes with my own, the clash of metal resonating through the night, and seized the opportunity to counterattack. Swinging my sword towards his midsection, I intended to inflict a deep wound, but the demon managed to evade my strike, creating distance between us once again.

In a desperate attempt to gain the upper hand, the demon launched one of his swords towards me, but I swiftly dodged it, closing the distance between us. Yet, just as I prepared to strike, the demon unleashed a scorching wave of fire in my direction. Reacting with lightning speed, I teleported behind him, avoiding the deadly flames. Without even turning, I lunged my sword backwards, aiming my blade towards his back, but the clash of metal reverberated through the air as he deflected my attack.

Spinning around, I found myself face-to-face with the demon once again, only to be confronted by his second sword hurtling towards me. This time, I evaded the lethal strike, seizing hold of the chain and swiftly freezing and shattering it in one fluid motion.

Undeterred by my countermove, the demon suddenly turned and began to flee, a challenge I was not willing to let escape. With unwavering determination, I pursued him, our footsteps echoing through the night. He leaped from the top of the building, hurtling toward the ground below. Sensing his trajectory, I prepared my next move.

Before descending, I created a series of razor-thin, nearly invisible ice needles and strategically placed them around the walls of the building and the street below. With a calculated landing, I glanced upward, anticipating his next attack. As he lunged towards me, sword in hand, I deflected his strike, our blades clashing with a resounding clash.

"Now it's my turn," he hissed, his body engulfed in flames as his blade ignited with an intense blaze. In a blazing burst of speed, he surged toward me, leaving a trail of smoke in his wake. Within an instant, he stood before me, his sword slashing with lightning speed. I managed to block the initial strike, but his relentless assault continued, testing my defenses.

Seizing a moment of opportunity, I retaliated with a powerful punch to his side, but to my surprise, the demon remained unfazed. Instead, he launched another swift strike, which I parried just in time. With a sudden motion, he extended his free hand towards me and snapped his fingers.

A massive explosion erupted, but thanks to the defensive rune and my swift reaction, I managed to withstand the blast, shielded by an ice barrier. As the smoke cleared, I glanced up to find the demon slowly approaching me, his steps deliberate and purposeful. I remained kneeling.

"She was right," the demon uttered, his voice laced with a mix of acknowledgment and curiosity. "Such a young age, yet such a formidable mind. Truly dangerous."

A sense of anticipation welled within me as the demon closed in, unaware of the trap I had set. Inch by inch, he drew nearer, his confidence radiating. I silently counted the steps, waiting for the perfect moment.

"Expansion," I murmured, and in an instant, the thin ice needles that surrounded us expanded, transforming into towering pillars. The demon reacted with astonishing speed, but it was too late. One of the pillars descended upon him, crushing his arm with a bone-chilling impact.

"AHHHH!" The demon bellowed, his pain echoing through the air, but my resolve remained unshaken.

"You really made it a pain in the ass to capture you," I remarked, rising to my feet. The demon, still writhing in agony, no longer possessed a weapon—only his right hand remained free. "Now, tell me about who 'she' is," I pressed, a smile tugging at the corner of my lips.

The demon remained silent, his eyes straining and his face contorted. Suddenly, his right arm became engulfed in flames. "Don't even think about it. It'll only make things worse for you," I cautioned, my tone unwavering. "Besides, I went through all this effort to capture you alive."

"Capture me?" the demon retorted, his voice laced with defiance. His eyes burned with a seething intensity. "I have to kill you. You're too much of a threat."

In an instant, the demon propelled himself towards me, unleashing a powerful blast from his feet to increase his speed. I swiftly noted his right hand bulging, a vast amount of energy accumulating within. Closing the distance between us, he aimed for an uppercut, but before he could land the blow, I swiftly froze both of us in place.

Transforming my side into liquid water, I watched as the ice encased the demon, trapping him in an icy prison while leaving myself unbound. The frozen moment captured his frustration, his menacing glare locked in place.

"Now, let's try this again," I said, a hint of satisfaction coloring my voice. "Who is 'she,' and why were you looking for me?"
