Chapter 39 - Weird

To say that yesterday was Roulan's best day ever.

There's no Yanmei clinging to her and bugging her. She slept all day, and when she woke up, food was already served in her room.

The staff said it was from a "secret admirer," to which Roulan rolled her eyes as she already had an idea who that person would be.

Although confused, she still thanked the God who granted her wish to be away from Yanmei for a day.

It's been three days since they've been in Abrington; she didn't know when the wedding was going to be, as Shihong never said a thing.

Yanmei didn't know anything, as the older woman would always tell her.

She didn't even leave the room because she was scared that Yanmei was outside waiting for her to leave.

The day went fast, and it's now Monday as they've been out of the country since Saturday. Her phone buzzed on the bedside table, causing Roulan to groan in annoyance.

The buzzing woke her up, her eyebrows furrowing as she sat up on the bed, grabbing her phone from the bedside table.

Her eyes widen, seeing the contact numbers of her friends and a hundred missed calls from Huiqing.

She stands up from the bed, walks towards the window, and opens it, causing the sun to hit her face.

She quickly went towards Lanfen's contact and dialed the woman.

"Roulan! The hell!? Yu and I waited outside your apartment yesterday!"

The woman removes the phone from her ear, her eyes closing as she shrieks at Lanfen's loud voice.

"Chill, I just woke up."

"Woke up!? Where were you!?"

Roulan pulls her phone away, her eyes looking around the area as she's trying to think of an excuse.

"Uhm-"

"What?"

"Uh, well."

The other line is silenced as they wait for Roulan's answer. Roulan sighs as she thinks about whether to tell the truth or not.

The door is slammed open, and Roulan flinches at the sudden noise that she made when she let go of her phone, causing it to fall to the ground.

She looks at the door, her eyes widening upon seeing one of the bodyguards inside the room.

"Young-"

"Shh!"

Roulan motioned for the guard to stay quiet as she quickly grabbed her phone, put it back on her ear, and heard the concerned voices of Lanfen and Yu.

"Roulan! What's going on!?"

"Are you alright?"

"Hey, uhm, I'm fine."

"Thank God! Now, tell us! Where were you?"

The question to which Roulan still hasn't thought of an answer. Her eyes look at the bodyguard as if asking for help.

"I'll talk to you later. Bye!"

She quickly said this before dropping the call. She sighs heavily, then looks at the guard, walking towards the bed to fix it and putting the phone down on the bedside table.

"Young Master, the Master is looking for you."

Roulan stretches her body, her eyebrows furrowing at the sudden mention of Shihong.

"What is it?"

"Please meet him at the hotel's restaurant."

The guard bows down before walking out of the hotel suite. Roulan shrugs her shoulders and walks towards the bathroom to shower.

"Yu, Lanfen."

The two looked at their backs and saw Huiqing approaching them. Lanfen puts her phone back in her pocket.

Huiqing reaches their place, her eyebrows furrowing as teary eyes greet the two.

"Are you alright?"

Yu asked, her eyes looking at Huiqing as the girl nodded and sniffed, a tear escaping her eyes.

"I just don't understand; where is she?"

The two look at each other as Huiqing waits for them. Yu sighs and shakes her head before sitting down on the chair.

Lanfen guided Huiqing to sit as well, her hand rubbing the woman's arm to calm her.

"That's right, we called her, and she didn't respond."

"Hey everyone!"

Ai loudly greeted, her eyes raking the cafeteria before she went towards Huiqing and Roulan's friends, Xiurong and Changying.

"Hey!"

Xiurong greeted her, but her eyes looked at Huiqing worriedly, seeing the red, puffy eyes of the woman.

"What happened here?"

She asks, walking towards Huiqing as she holds her friend's hand to comfort her.

Huiqing smiles at Xiurong's gesture, thanking the girl as Ai and Changying sit down beside Lanfen and Yu.

"Huiqing, you're acting so weird."

Changying spoke out, causing the four to look at her. Ai slaps her shoulder lightly, causing the girl to look at her in confusion.

"How can you say that? She just misses her girlfriend."

-

Roulan coughs on her drink, and Shihong and a woman beside him look at her in confusion.

"Are you alright?"

Shihong asks, his hand landing on the young woman's shoulder as Roulan nods, grabbing the napkin on the table.

"Sorry guys, I'm late."

Roulan looks at her back, seeing Yanmei as the woman winks at her and stands beside the chair on her side.

Her eyebrows widen as Yanmei looks at her, as if asking her to pull a chair for her.

"Ehem, chair."

Yanmei fakes a cough, her eyes glaring at Roulan as she scratches her nose lightly.

Roulan rolled her eyes, her gaze landing on Shihong and the woman as they both looked at the taller woman with their eyebrows furrowed.

"Here you go, Royal Highness."

Roulan stands up from her chair, her eyes rolling as she pulled the chair, and Yanmei looks at her with a sweet smile as a thank you.

"Thank you, baby."

Yanmei said, her purse going onto her lap as she looked at the woman in front of her, her eyes widening in the process.

"Dad."

"Yes."

Yanmei couldn't help but squeal in excitement, her hands slapping Roulan as she quickly clung onto the taller woman.

"Roulan! We'll be able to see the wedding preparations!"

"The what!?"

-

Huiqing closes the door to the bathroom. Her eyes look at her face as she shakes her head and opens the tap, splashing her face with the cold water.

Her phone rang in her pocket, and she reached for it, not caring whether it'd get wet or not.

"Hello?"

"Dear, what's with your tone?"

Huiqing widens her eyes at the voice at the other end, her hand reaching towards her handkerchief to wipe her face.

"Mother, what's with the sudden call?"

The woman at the other end chuckled, Huiqing looking at her reflection as she nervously tapped her feet on the floor.

"Honey, what did I tell you about your feet?"

"Sorry."

Huiqing stands up properly, her throat clearing as the woman at the other end smiles.

"Any updates?"

"Mom-"

"Honey, this is for our own good."

"But-"

"No more buts; call me when there's an update."

"She's not here."

The other line went quiet. Huiqing waited for the woman to speak, but the other line quickly ended the call.

Huiqing sighs and shakes her head, putting her phone back in her pocket and splashing her face with water yet again.

The other woman at the end looks at her phone, rolling her eyes before putting it back down on the table.

"Because she's in Abrington, Sweetie."

The woman's hand quickly reaches the teacup that's on the table, closing the folder as she nods at the man who bows down in front of her.

"Who is she connected with again?"

"One of the powerful mob bosses in our country, ma'am."

The woman puts the teacup down, her eyes looking at the file the man provided for her.
