Then the room stopped moving and came to a standstill and the doors behind him opened up.
Buck saw a huge tunnel with pipes going around and a large crowd of people that looked in his direction in an eerie silence once he got down.
Each was clearly more skilled than the previous applicants he saw before.
Then he looked down to see a weird bean giving him a number tag.
"Please take this number tag and be careful you don't lose it," the strange bean said to him.
Buck grabbed the number tag and checked the number which was 309.
Looking at the other contestants and noticing they have their tags clipped to their shirts Buck did the same leaving it in plane view like everyone else, he felt a tinge in the back of his head that said he shouldn't do this but he decided to ignore it.
He then slowly walked to the side and began to evaluate his competition and checked whether everyone here looked muscled and skilled or had a sharp glint in their eyes, which he found most did
He first saw a person with the number 16 badge walk towards him one of the people he noted that he felt a weird feeling too
"Hey there the name is Tonpa, Is this your first time?"
"Yes, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the atmosphere here, I didn't expect there to be so many people," Buck said acting like he was weak
"Well the hunter exam is very famous and attracts a lot of people from all around, here have this can of orange juice to help calm your nerves," Tonpa says while having a sip of his own "Haaa, that's nice it helps for me," he said as he stretched out his hand with the can in it
"Haha thanks" Buck took the can and glimpsed at Tonpa's face and it was all friendly smiles "Maybe it'll help me, thanks again Tonpa" Buk then walks away with the can in hand
'That idiot there's clearly something wrong about it why would you sip yours as if you're trying to show me it's fine to drink, there's even scum in the hunter's exam.'
Buck then continued to look around a noticed some odd characters, there was a man with a weird teardrop under his eye and red scruffy hair with a creepy smile on his face that Buck felt was a little familiar, Buck then passed this off as him looking like a clown
He then noticed a small boy with white hair and a skateboard in his hand giving everyone a look that shows he thinks they are inferior but Buck could see that the sharp glint in his eye is not to be underestimated especially in this strange world
Then upon feeling a gaze on the back of his head, he turned around to see a man with lots of pins in his head while making a clattering sound, Buck felt very intimated by this man as though he was a predator, like an instinctual fear the prey has
Buck not wanting to draw any attention hid himself away in a corner not wanting to look around too much in case he offends someone, he knew not to underestimate people in this world now whether they look weird or are a kid
After waiting for a while, several other applicants came down the elevator. None that Buck felt especially stood out until…
Gon number 405, Kurapika number 404 and Leorio number 403.
Buck then remembered these names from before his death in an anime he used to watch, Hunter x Hunter, all of a sudden Buck felt like he unlocked his memories of the anime and recognised Hisoka the creepy clown, Killua the kid with the skateboard a professional assassin born and raised and the man with the pins being Killua's brother and the inexplicable fear was probably ceased by for looking at his brother
As he saw 'the rookie killer' Tonpa go up to the trio to offer drinks, glad now he knew that the drink was spiked and didn't drink it he began to move away from them in fear of Hisoka's and illumi's attention being drawn to him in the future as even he didn't want to mess with super-powered psychos
That's when a scream sounded throughout the tunnel. Buck turned to see a man's arms turned to flower petals and disappeared.
Hisoka's voice rang out "No smoke and mirrors here, do be careful when you bump into someone you really should apologise"
This cemented the idea of not messing with Hisoka anytime soon in his head making him not want to get close to Gon who had an obsession with Hisoka and vice versa
The tunnel started to vibrate all around, and a huge wall of the tunnel started to move upwards revealing the examiner standing there.
He was in a suit holding something by a string that looked like a face on a pouch, the man had long purple hair curled upwards with a thin curly moustache, green eyes and strangely no mouth.
The examiner began to speak "I apologise for the delay, thank you for waiting, the entry period for hunter applicants is officially closed, so with no further adieu the hunter exam will now begin. One final word of caution, if you're short on luck or ability keep in mind that there is a real chance you could end up seriously injured. Death is another distinct possibility."
At the mention of death, several people tensed up for a second but only a second, showing the level of skill everyone has to get so far in the hunter's exam.
The examiner carried on "If you're willing to accept the risks involved I'll ask you to follow me now, but for the rest of you kindly exit through the elevator located behind you"
Nobody flinched at these words and stayed true to their spot showcasing their resolve to become hunters.
After a short delay, the examiner continued "Right then, very well. All 404 applicants will participate in phase 1"
He then turned around and began to walk into the tunnel in a slow march, those at the front started to walk forwards following the examiner.
As time went on the pace started to increase, yet the examiner didn't seem to be increasing in speed yet was still going faster than everyone else.
The other applicants started to run.
Authors note- there will be no new chapters after this for a while due to exams, peace out.
