It's just that the original text is really old….well, older than me….so I won't exactly be able to help much." She explained awkwardly. He gave her a small smile and nodded in understanding.
"That's perfect, thank you Master Miriya." He said happily. Miriya nodded and picked the book up off of the table. Glorfindel glanced around briefly, seeming slightly panicked.
"Where is everyone? Where's Bofur and Balin? They shouldn't have left already, should they?" He asked, glancing around in confusion.
"They went outside for lunch a little while ago." Miriya told him. Glorfindel relaxed somewhat upon hearing her answer. "Don't worry, I doubt they will leave too long. It was only because of the rain that they left." Miriya reassured him, frowning slightly as she noticed his worried expression. Glorfindel offered her a small smile.
"Thank you, Miriya. I'm sorry if I worried you." He apologized softly. Miriya returned his smile, offering a reassuring nod.
"It's alright. Actually, they probably shouldn't be gone too long. The rain should let up soon."
Chapter 2
'A week…' Miriya thought sadly, standing there alone inside the empty building, watching a large storm rage outside in the middle of nowhere, 'A week and we haven't found the ring yet. We can still go and look for it. However, Thorin isn't letting us search for the ring ourselves. Instead, he wants to send Glorfindel and Balin along with me while he stays in Rivendell, to ensure that the two of us don't get too lost or get separated from the other members of the Company. As I said earlier today, Glorfindel has been teaching me how to properly use the map to navigate our way around Rivendell and I need his help to complete our task. However, the fact that he is staying in Rivendell also means that I am stuck staying here for the next few days until this whole affair gets resolved. I hate sitting around waiting while the rest of the company goes somewhere that I could never possibly be able to go…' She mused sadly. Miriya sighed deeply and sat down on the floor, leaning against the wall, hugging her knees. Suddenly, an idea popped into her mind. She stood up abruptly and headed toward a nearby table where a bunch of papers laid. Grabbing a piece of parchment, she began writing frantically, filling it up with all kinds of scribbles. Finally satisfied, she tore the paper off of the sheet of paper, crumpled it up, and flung it into the trashcan next to her.
'Time to start my training again.' She thought, clenching her fists and looking determinedly at the paper before placing it on top of the trashcan next to her.
She glanced back up at the ceiling, glaring at the ceiling in frustration. 'Just how difficult can it be to find a ring on a map…' Miriya thought irritably. 'It's just a map.' She reminded herself. She shook her head, sighing slightly and turning away from the door as she crossed the small distance between her and the trashcan. Walking back to the center of the classroom, she took the seat in front of her desk, grabbed her pencil and began doodling in the margins of her notebook.
After a good ten minutes of silence and a lot of scribbling (which Miriya ignored), someone cleared their throat, causing her to nearly jump three feet in the air. Quickly turning to see who it was, Miriya froze in surprise when she saw Glorfindel standing in front of her. He was wearing an amused grin and seemed quite pleased with himself. He looked down at her notes and hummed quietly to himself. Then, glancing up from the page, he caught sight of her doodles and raised an eyebrow in amusement.
"You draw? Is it because of your past hobby?" He asked curiously, glancing over her shoulder and pointing out one particular drawing of a man who seemed to be carrying a sword and walking down a dark corridor, while another man was running ahead of him holding several keys. She glanced up quickly, a guilty expression appearing on her face as she realized he had seen her doodle.
Miriya swallowed nervously and slowly put her notebook onto her desk, avoiding Glorfindel's gaze. Glorfindel gave her a curious look, wondering whether or not he should ask her what the drawing was meant to symbolize or what he could possibly mean by it. But before he could open his mouth to speak, she interrupted him.
"Uh..yes, actually. I uh...like to draw things." She replied, forcing a nervous chuckle and staring down at her hands on the desk. She heard him chuckle lightly as well.
