Hadley gasped sitting up in her bed quickly wiping the cold sweat off her forehead. The dream had felt so real, the fangs of the mystery boy brushing her neck as he whispered things she couldn't comprehend, after he had chased and caught her in the woods that she recognized as the ones behind her house.
This was the third night she had a dream that was so vivid. She remembered every detail to the point where in art class the next day she could sketch the scenery, from every leaf and twig on the ground to the color of the sky. Looking out her window she saw it was time for school and frowned, not ready to get out of bed.
Standing she flinched when her bare manicured toes touched the cold hardwood floor of her room. Walking slowly went to her closet pulling out a pair of black athletic pants, a white lace bra from the dresser and then a cropped light pink hoodie. Going into her bathroom she started the shower making sure to let the water heat up to where you could see the steam leaking from behind the shower curtain. Taking a quick shower she got out wrapping a towel around her body before getting her makeup out and ready. It only took her a few minutes to apply her mascara and some blush before she braided her long light brown hair into two loose french braids. Getting dressed quickly and grabbing her school things she walked downstairs to her house empty as usual since her parents were always away on business.
"Hadley!" She heard someone yell as the front door slammed open causing her to jump and drop her sketchbook.
Miley, her neighbor and best friend came bounding in her long curly hair, which made both the girls look like sisters except for the slight color difference, bounced around her. Miley wore her usual clothes designer skinny jeans, converse sneakers which she owned in almost every color, a loose top with a scarf then a sweater.
"Good you're ready, I was running late and I was hoping I wouldn't have to drag you out of bed." Miley laughed
"Don't worry, another one of my dreams woke me up." Hadley sighed as they walked to the car.
"Another one? These can't be good, I mean sure everyone wants to dream of a hot guy but not one that is out to murder you."
"Who's murdering who?" A male voice said from the passenger seat in the car.
Chase, a fun loving, loyal, always happy, floppy haired friend. To Hadley he was the brother her parents never gave her, even though for her fifth birthday she asked for one, and to Miley he was the boy who could do no wrong.
"No one, Hadley just had one of her crazy dreams again." Miley said as she climbed in the car Hadley following sighed as she flopped into the back seat.
Chase frowned, turning to look at her "you okay?"
"I'm fine, it's just from stress from school you both worry too much."
With that said Chase shrugged and Miley started driving and talking about new kids that had moved in at the old house surrounded by woods not too far from where they lived. The house always had rumors surrounding it, saying the family who used to live there were cursed, and murdered people who would come near them. Of course no one had lived there for years as far as anyone knew.
The day dragged on as usual until lunch. Hadley sat at her usual table with Chase and Miley when she noted the table that was usually empty, two people were sitting. A tall boy with short brown hair, sat with a petite blonde girl. They seemed close, however she couldn't tell if they were related or dating.
"Are they the new kids?" She asked Miley who had just sat down.
"Yes, Aiden and Rina Jones, their fraternal twins. Rina is older."
"What did you do to interrogate them?" Chase joked nudging his girlfriend in the side.
"No, however being class president I do have access to some records." She smiled, batting her eyes.
Hadley and Chase looked at each other and then back to Miley.
"Are you crazy? What did we tell you about that" Hadley whispered, frowning.
"Hey, I was only trying to see about the new kids, I didn't do anything else." Miley pouted, dropping her fork on her plate and crossing her arms.
"Just stop doing it." Chase warned.
Miley and Chase were not the typical couple. The one thing they had in common was that Hadley was a mutual friend. Chase was charismatic, everyone loved him. He was the star football player of the school since sophomore year, as well as star baseball player. Though he kept his grades up he relied more on sports to get him into college.
Miley however was outgoing when it came to academics. With a 4.0 and a dazzling smile she easily won class president and would most likely be voted valedictorian.
Now Hadley was in between, she did both sports, cheer leading, as well as softball, and though her grades weren't Miley's they weren't awful. What she was known for however was her drawings or paintings. She could always be found doodling on her school work and the teachers often got frustrated with that fact.
Somehow they all managed to become and stay good friends, something that even shocked them at times.
Hadley looked over at the kids again and They were talking to themselves looking like they might have been in an argument. Rina's eyes looked watery, and Aiden's fists were clenched as they talked heatedly to each other.
Hadley turned back to her food and started eating. Soon she heard a crash right beside her and looked to see Miley and Rina had managed to collide, knocking them both to the floor.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you." Miley startled apologizing as Chase and Hadley helped both girls to their feet.
"I-it's fine." Rina stuttered her dark gray blue eyes not looking up as she brushed her shirt off. Her blonde hair which was cut in a stylish bob was covering her face.
"Are you sure? I feel awful, I wouldn't have gotten up so quickly if I had known someone was coming."
Chase chuckled "sorry about her she babbles." He put his arm around Miley's shoulder then held out his other hand "I'm Chase, this is Miley and Hadley."
Rina glanced up, giving a small smile before reaching out and shaking his hand.
"I'm Rina." Her voice was soft. She was dressed simply in a pair of light wash jeans, flat shin high black boots with a black long sleeved shirt.
"Again, so sorry." Miley gave a small smile
"Don't worry about it, I should've watched where I was going." She smiled.
"Would you like to sit with us for the rest of lunch?" Hadley asked as they all sat down
Rina turned looking back to where she had left her brother only to see that when she looked he was gone. She sighed before nodding and sitting down.
The rest of the day passed uneventfully. Since it was Friday the girls decided to have a sleep over at Miley's.
"So Rina, why did you move here?" Hadley asked as they all sat around Miley's room.
One half of Miley's room was like a living room with two couches and a TV. While the other side was where her dresser, closet , bed and desk were.
"Well my father lived here when he was younger, his parents owned the house we just moved into." She shrugged "I guess my parents decided it was time to move back, when my grandparents died they left my father the house."
"I've always wanted to see that house, the inside I mean. Miley and I used to play in the woods and around the house but the doors were always locked so we only ever saw the outside."
"So is it just you and Aiden?" Miley asked looking up from her magazine
"No, besides my parents there is also Cole." Rina blushed biting her lip
Miley and Hadley shared a look before smiling and sitting on the couch next to Rina with.
"And who is this Cole?" Hadley smiled
"He is a family friend, he's older by a few years." Rina's face was almost glowing red as the girls started giggling
Miley's smile widened "so are you two an item perhaps."
"N-no we aren't, but he is very good looking."
Hadley and Miley squealed
"Does he like you? Do you like him?" Miley grabbed Rina's hands.
"I may like him, but I doubt he has feelings for me." She shrugged a frown on her face.
"I'm sure he does, you're gorgeous." Hadley smiled "I mean look at you, pretty blue eyes, blonde hair, and you're as nice as can be."
Rina smiled at that as the girls changed topics. Hadley sketched a quick sketch of Rina for her as they watched a movie
