Through the gap in the forest, Morty saw a silver-haired woman wearing a bright silver light armor covered in blood. She had a tattered red cloak draped over her back and was holding onto a broken sword. She was fleeing in his direction in panic, looking back as if there was something terrifying behind her.
The moment Morty saw the woman, the woman also noticed his presence and a hint of panic appeared on her face.
"Damn it! How can there be people in this wilderness?"
She didn't have time to think. She turned around and shouted at Morty, "Run!"
"Run?" Morty was stunned. Why were they running?
ROAR!
The terrifying roar made Morty tremble. Then, he saw a scene that made his entire body turn cold.
Behind the woman, a group of lunatics with ragged clothes and gray skin rushed over. Morty could see the blood and rot covering most parts of their bodies. Only a layer of skin and flesh was connected, but those people didn't seem to feel anything. They were still running at full speed and didn't even react when their arm fell off.
This scene reminded Morty of a creature…
Zombies from Resident Evil!
The zombie horde chased after the woman crazily, occasionally letting out strange roars, which sounded particularly ear-piercing in the silent forest.
Morty gulped. Without hesitation, he turned around and ran. He had already remembered what this creature was.
Zombies!
They had no intelligence, only bloodthirsty instincts, and were extremely tenacious. Unless their brains were destroyed, they would never stop moving.
Why would such a terrifying creature appear here?
Morty did not have time to think about these things because the zombie army had already spotted him. More than a dozen zombies had already started to head after him.
"Damn it!"
Morty gritted his teeth and tried to escape with all his might. However, the zombie's speed was terrifying. He had not run far before he was caught up. He could even feel a fishy scent approaching from behind.
ROAR!
The zombie at the front roared and pounced forward, hitting his back hard. Caught off guard, Morty was knocked to the ground.
Before he could get up, the zombie that knocked him down pounced on him again. He could even see the eyeballs hanging outside the other party's eye sockets and the maggots crawling in and out of his face. Before he could get close, the pungent smell made him nauseous.
In his panic, Morty picked up a broken piece of wood and used it to block the zombie's mouth.
Crunch!
The branch in his hand was instantly bitten through by the zombie's sharp teeth. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Morty kicked the zombie back a few steps. However, before he could get up, the other zombies behind him rushed over again.
"F*ck!" Despair flashed in Morty's eyes.
Was he going to die?
Morty was filled with unwillingness. He had just obtained everything in front of him. He did not want to die yet!
The zombies swarmed up one after another. The previous zombies also spat out the tree branch and aimed to pounce again.
Morty closed his eyes. This was the only thing he could do at the moment, to wait for death.
However, very quickly, a strong force came from behind him. His entire body flew into the air and fell heavily to the ground.
It was the woman in silver armor from before!
She had saved him.
The woman held the broken sword and stabbed it through the zombie's throat. However, before she could pull the sword out, the remaining zombies pounced on her. The woman had no choice but to abandon her weapon and retreat.
Seeing Morty sitting on the ground in a daze, the woman shouted, "Follow me!"
She knew very well that if she let the man in front of her out of her sight, the zombie would definitely chase after him, and then she would feel much less burdened.
However, as the captain of the Royal Knights, she would not allow anyone to die because of her own mistakes.
Even if she died, she would do her best to protect this man.
Morty came back to his senses and quickly got up. He followed the woman and quickly fled out of the forest. The zombie army followed closely behind.
On the way, Morty noticed that the woman in front of him staggered from time to time, and blood dripped from the road she passed. Clearly, the woman's physical condition was not optimal.
After rushing out of the forest, the distance between the two sides quickly closed without the obstruction of the big trees, but the woman stopped in her tracks.
"Why did you stop?" Morty was puzzled. "The monsters are coming!"
The woman's face was bitter as she pointed ahead. "I didn't expect there to be a manor here. We can't lure the zombies over."
"That's my manor! Hurry up and hide inside," said Morty hurriedly.
"That belongs to you?" The woman's eyes lit up. "Hide! " She urged.
"Okay!" Morty had just taken two steps forward when he realized that the woman was still standing where she was. He turned to her anxiously, "What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and let's go!"
The woman shook her head, her eyes filled with determination. "The zombies' target is me. If I go with you, they won't give up. You can go. I'll buy you some time!"
As she spoke, she took off her tattered cloak and threw it on the ground. She turned around and calmly faced the zombie army behind her.
Morty was so anxious that he scratched his ears and cheeks. He didn't know whether to run or not.
After a short delay, the zombies had already rushed over. The woman shouted and went forward, punching and kicking, forcefully holding back more than half of the zombies. However, a few of them still noticed Morty and rushed toward him.
"F*ck! No way!"
Morty cursed and turned to run, but he tripped over a rock and fell forward.
Ignoring the pain in his body, he hurriedly tried to stand up, but the zombie had already pounced on him, its mouth biting the back of his neck.
The woman noticed this scene and her eyes were filled with guilt.
"I'm sorry… This is all my fault…"
Just as Morty was about to die, an ear-piercing sound rang out. The woman raised her head, and her pupils instantly constricted.
In his line of sight, dense black shadows flew over from the manor like a large swarm of locusts, fiercely "pouncing" on the two zombies that had attacked Morty.
Pew, pew, pew–
After a series of muffled sounds, the two zombies fell to the ground, their bodies covered in bloody holes.
"What's that?"
The woman was puzzled.
The zombie army at the side did not think so much. When their companions died, they immediately roared and charged at Morty.
However, what welcomed them was a sky full of black shadows. Like locusts passing through, the zombie army fell in rows. Soon, the ground was filled with countless rotting corpses.
The zombie beside her was killed. The woman saw the full appearance of the black shadows. Those are actually stalks of corn!
At this moment, Morty had just stood up from the ground. When he turned around, he saw the corpses on the ground and the dumbfounded woman beside him.
"What's going on?"
The woman looked at him blankly, her lips opening and closing. After a long time, she finally said, "That's… Did you plant those corns?"
