The absence of female soldiers led the class monitors, who had previously been tough, to now stand straight and restrain their expressions. They were eager to showcase their gentler and more handsome sides, hoping to impress any potential female soldiers.
The new recruits had only left their hometown forty days ago, and if they had been delayed a bit longer, some might have still been in school. As bachelors, they felt a longing for companionship and affection.
