Chapter 1 - With Love

The snow deep, the wind piercing Sara's skin like knives slicing her skin. The cold went straight to the bone urging her to find refuge in the mountain hills. Sara's eyes are welling with tears. As she felt the worme blood ozz down her side cutting her clothes. She slipped off the mountain side and landed on a branch.

She had been helping a local village fing a man who had gone missing. But lost the group of people looking for a missing hiker. All she wanted to do was help.  Looking down at the thick snow up to her knees she collapsed exhausted. Tears rolling down her frostbitten skin. She had been walking for hours and found no sign of the party of people, it overwhelmed her with thoughts. But one thought stood among the rest, the blizzard warning she'd seen before leaving her home.

She laid there letting her cries travel and the snow cradled her, freezing her skin in the process.  She let the exhaustion take over and fell into a deep sleep.

Slow footsteps approach,  a tall figure leans down and stares at the crystal tears on a young woman's face. A deep feeling of understanding took over the figure as it leaned closer. Pale and delicate fingers outstretched. The figure grabs one of the girl's hands and drags her with ease.

Mmm… Sara jolts up, eyes wide. Her body is cold as ice and burning. she shakes and grabs the blanket off the cave floor which had fallen from her. She started to examine the walls of this cave. She was in a large rounded cave. The walls showed blue and similar to stars. The blue ice hanging from the ceiling was glowing with a subtle light that captured her attention. there was an opening like a carved out tunnel in the blue ice.

Stumbling on the slick icy floor, Sara began to approach the opening. "I see you awake and walking. I thought you would never wake up lucky-you."  Stunned and confused, Sara looked for the sweet voice though it seemed frustrated. A shadow stepped out into the light and it stretched far across the icy floor. A tall pale beautiful woman looked down at Sara. The woman gist looked down at Sara no words and Sara stared back. "I.. I'm Sara I fell f-from a cliff and l-landed on a piece of wood. It looks like I won't be able to make it home without a-assistance.`` Sara replied with clattering teeth. Sara looked down unsure what else to say. "Come on, let's go". The woman's dark eyes glittered in the light as she started to walk. Sara limped along the cold floor, her feet blistering while she walked.

Sara didn't notice her body had gone numb. The woman led her through the carved path in the ice. The path opened up to a new room of the icy cave. The room is furnished with hand made shelves, a pile of clean furs, next to a single table with a chair at its side, and a  wardrobe open and filled with fine wight fabrics on the opposite side of the room. Her dress swayed and long silver and black hair flowed from behind. She walked like a fantasy girl who hid in the back of your dreams, pristine and perfect. The only difference was this wasn't a dream. The tall woman leaned down and picked up a large fur off the pile." I'll take you to an inn nearby after you warm up."  With a small smile she gestured for Sara to come sit on the furs patting it like a beloved child. "There's a blizzard isn't there". Sara inquired, tilting her head. "Why yes my dear but you need to warm yourself up first before you freeze to death now come here." Sara complied with little to no hesitation and that though made Sara shiver even more intensely. Sara plopped down covering herself with the furs till she was in a bundle of fur. The woman finally placed the large fur on top.

The tall woman turned to leave the cave taking a few elegant steps."where are you going? It's not safe out there." The woman turned to the weak voice huddled in the furs she'd collected. "My dear if only you knew of the irony behind your statement." She smiled at the ground with a sigh but didn't leave the cave, but instead headed to the table and sat down in the chair with her long porcelain legs crossed.

After watching the girl for a while the woman spoke softly "My dear, how do you feel? Ready to bandage that wound." Looking down into the furs the small girl undid her jacket and started at the large hole in her side. But there was little blood coming from it like her body wasn't reacting to it. She pondered this but didn't voice her concerns." Come here and lie on the table." The girl got up and walked to the table, her body warm but barely. Lifting the girl onto the table the woman looked at the wound and began to undress the girl.

Looking at the long white fingers undoing her shirt.  The girl started to feel hot, almost burning. "Don't be shy. I don't see you in any way other than a hurt girl on my table. Try not to overthink it." The beautiful woman spoke softly and took off the young girl's shirt. The woman's eyes linger on the burn scars on her large naked chest but for only a second. Then began to whip and clean out the wound with a box of equipment that wasn't there before. The woman's cold fingers brushing the girl's skin lightly as she went. "Would you like to hear a story to get your mind off the pain?" "I..I don't mind." "Uh" the girl grunted in pain. The woman started to pour a strange liquid into the wound. This liquid made the girl's legs go numb, leasing the pain she was undergoing.

"There was a small village in the mountains. The winters were harsh but the people worked together to make it through. One year was particularly rough and a few of the villagers had parished for varying reasons. But one family had it the worst. This was the Sohma family. The father had become gravely Ill so the oldest son went down the mountain to find a doctor but never came back. So the father died leaving the wife to take care of their seventeen year old daughter and ten year old son. They made it past winter with the whole village's help but going into the spring the village stopped helping. Rumors had been going around of the wife being unfaithful and that for undeserving of their assistance."

"But even if the wife was unfaithful the next winter might kill them." The young girl looked down at the woman with tears.

"Yes it was very cruel but the people at the time were also suffering greatly because of helping her and couldn't do it forever." The woman looked at the girl with somber eyes, almost longing."well the mother had to do something if the other villagers wouldn't help her. She couldn't do physical work due to her frail body and couldn't sow because her hands were too rigid."  "At the time the people didn't have the knowledge thay do now but I believe she would have had arthritis due to some underlying health issue. But you never know." The woman added."The woman had taken notice of her condition; she'd grown more desperate and thinner by the day but her daughter grew to be beautiful and healthy. The townspeople had also taken notice of her pure beauty which was unlike the women of the tribe. Offers started rolling in for her hand when she'd turned seventeen which the mother ignored, turning many men down. But winter was coming and her family wasn't going to be so lucky this time. So she did what was natural. She sold her daughter to the highest bidder and sent her off with an older man who lived down the mountain. The old man was wealthy and treated her with care. She started to fall for the man but he'd grown inpatient and taken advantage of her during the night, hurting her in the process. That was win the cruelty started he beat her, starved her, and took what little she had. This lasted eleven long years. One day the now woman couldn't take it anymore and stabbed the man several times then fled up the mountain with his money in her bag. She found her old village only to discover her mother had died and brother missing for several years. Hurt by this knowledge she mourned their deaths for days." The woman passed unsure to tell the next part.

"She had a house built in the village and bought plenty of land using her husband's money. But she had no one to work her land so she looked for a man to take care of her land. She would provide food, shelter, and supplies for the winter. A man took interest in her deal. He was 21 and unmarried but happy to have the opportunity. She took care of him and as time went by she grew more fond of him.

Watching him plow her field she thought of him. He wasn't bad looking and he was nothing like the old man; he was gentle, happy, and respectful of her. The winter was cold and they eventually found themselves wrapped up in each other for warmth."

"This would be a grave mistake."

"They continued to share a bed each night. Both drawn in by the other's attractive appearance. Three months had past of this nightly play time and she started to show signs of baring a child. The woman had felt it wrong to hide her past while carrying his child,  and trusted the man enough to tell him her story. Win she finished and looked at the man he had tears rolling from his eyes and fell to the ground clutching onto her lap. He said he was sorry over and over like a broken songbird. She had no Idea why but he managed to squeak out I didn't know. I'm so sorry I didn't recognize you,  I'm sorry… She clung to every word but still didn't understand. He reached up from her lap, locked eyes with her still steaming with tears and falling onto his handsome face, he placed his hand on her face. I'm your brother. He said that while choking on every syllable.  Her world stopped still. Her heart skipped beats and her mind cried out but she made not a sound. She only looked at her sobbing brother on her lap then stood up letting him drop to the floor in the shadow of a broken man. She took a few slow steps towards the door. Please don't, I'm sorry. He cried out for her, but he didn't stop her. She walked out the door into a blizzard and found herself on top of the mountain where she took her life and Her unborn child's." She finished her story without a comment.

"Can't have you in soaking wet clothes" She finally finished wrapping her wounds and headed to the wardrobe and came out with a white shirt and pants along with a fur coat and waist wrap. "That story was horrible, and so sad.. was it true" "that story is as real as you and me" the woman looked down with sadness. Then started dressing the girl on her table. "I think I can do it, you don't have to." She blushed "I wouldn't want you hurting yourself again, don't fight it." She had already put on the shirt. "Sorry but I don't have any underwear that would fit you." She looked sad."It's alright." When she finally finished putting on the girl's clothes she looked into her eyes. This being the girls first reel look at her eyes they were dark blue almost black and frightened her. I'm sorry if my story made you upset. I've been thinking about it alot lately" She smiled soberly. "Alright let's get you back. It was lovely to have someone listen." The girl fell asleep sitting up and leaned forward. The woman lifted the girl into her arms cradling her with a soft embrace. Then proceeded out the door with the girl.

Waking up in a motel lobby wasn't what the girl was expecting. But a small elderly woman sat next to her frantically calling for her husband."What happened to the tall woman?" It took a second for everything to get settled but the elderly woman explained she had walked in by herself and had been missing for a whole week. "So what happened to you? I'm very curious as to how you came back." The old lady frowned. So the girl told her. The woman clung to every word that left the girl's lips."it sounds to me like you met our mountains, Yuki-onna. She's been there for as long as anyone can remember but it's assumed she was only an old myth." The legend go's, a woman killed herself after killing her husband  because he'd been disloyal to her. After that day any man that she came across would freeze to death or she'd suck the life from his lips." "But your story is much more interesting than the legend. It makes me think she's really up there but why did she save you."

After that the girl went back home and checked her wounds and they were gone. She felt confused; it was like she'd never been on the mountain in the first place. Then her doorbell rang out and to her surprise her clothes and a note that read "I look forward to seeing you again but leave out getting stabbed next time.
