The day was drawing to a close, and David had not called Amya to his office even once. Amya's hope for reconciliation with David had dwindled throughout the day. As the office emptied and evening approached, she prepared to leave for home. She walked out of her office, locked the door behind her, and began the slow, deliberate walk towards David's office. Her mind was a whirlwind of contemplation with the thoughts, should she inform him she was leaving or just go without a word?
After wrestling with her thoughts for what felt like an eternity, she finally knocked on his office door. Without waiting for a reply, she stepped inside and quickly stated her purpose without looking at him, "Good evening, sir. I am here to inform you that I am done for the day. If there's nothing else you need, I will be going home now. I will see you tomorrow."
She paused, hoping for a response, but when none came, she continued, "Lastly, before I leave, sir, I want to apologize for my undisciplined behavior of snooping around your office without permission. I promise you it will never happen again. I am sorry." Still no reply.
Summoning her courage, she finally lifted her gaze to meet David's. His piercing blue eyes stared back at her, filled with a mixture of disturbance and hurt. For a moment, she was lost in those eyes, her heart aching to understand the pain behind them. But she quickly reminded herself that she was merely an employee, and it was not her place to pry into her boss's personal life. She turned to leave, exited the office, and took the elevator to the first floor to head home.
As soon as she stepped outside, she was suddenly grabbed with immense force by David, who appeared out of nowhere. He forced her into his silver BMW and drove off. Amya was terrified, her heart pounding with fear. The day's events had gone from bad to worse. Her mother's warnings about David's intentions echoed in her mind, filling her with dread. Tears welled up in her eyes as she berated herself for not heeding her mother's advice.
After about forty minutes of tense, silent driving, David finally stopped the car at what appeared to be a cemetery. He exited the car and began walking towards the graves. Amya considered staying in the car or even running away, but after a moment of indecision, she slowly followed David.
She found him standing at the far side of the graveyard, staring coldly at a gravestone with an aloof expression. Amya stood silently beside him, unsure of what to say or do. After several minutes of silence, David finally spoke, "You wanted to meet her, right?"
Startled by his sudden words, Amya uttered a confused, "Huh?" and turned to face David, who was still looking at the grave with a pained expression.
"The girl your heart is curious about, the girl who made you see a different side of me today. A side I never thought I would show you. The side that's making you doubt my character and intentions towards you now, the side I never imagined showing anyone after a long time," David said, his voice broken.
"She was the light and joy of my life. No one in the entire world can ever replace her. She was always there whenever I was hurt, broken, feeling low, happy, excited, lonely, or insecure. She was my pillar of hope whenever I felt lost. I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for her. I owe her everything I have today... she was my everything... But I couldn't save her," David sobbed, falling to his knees and crying bitterly.
Amya was taken aback by the sight of such a strong man like David breaking down in tears. She had always seen him as someone who had everything under control, but this moment revealed his vulnerability. She knelt beside him, wrapping her arms around him and caressing his back to comfort him. Without hesitation, David clung to her waist, burying his face in her chest and crying even harder, soaking her business outfit with his tears.
Amya glanced at the gravestone and read the inscription: "IN LOVING MEMORY OF NICOLE PERRINGTON. DATE OF BIRTH 17/07/1985. DATE OF DEATH 12/10/2007." Tears streamed down her face as she whispered, "I am really sorry. I didn't mean to open up a buried wound in your heart. Please forgive me. I am really sorry."
David didn't respond with words but instead surprised Amya with a deep, passionate kiss. Initially taken aback, Amya hesitated, but then she felt the sincerity in his kiss and slowly began to respond.
David pulled away slightly and whispered, "I love you, Amya. I've been crazy about you since the moment I met you. I know this isn't the right time or place to say this, but I really love you. I promise that if you give me the chance to court you, I will do my best to make you happy and ensure you never lack anything in your life. Everything you want, I will fulfill it, Amya. Please just give me this chance, and I promise I will make you the happiest woman in the world."
Amya's heart swelled with overwhelming happiness at his confession. She responded to his kiss and said, "I also feel the same way you do. I promise to do my best to make you the happiest man. I'll give you this chance with all my heart, but promise me you'll never break it because I don't know what I would do if you broke my heart."
"Never! I promise I will never play with your heart, Amya. I will care for and cherish it like my own. I promise. I love you, Amya," David replied earnestly.
"I love you too, David," Amya said softly.
They continued their passionate kiss, their emotions pouring out as they held each other tightly. Love and a sense of newfound connection ruled the rest of the night, as they found solace and comfort in each other's arms amidst the quiet, somber setting of the cemetery.
