The creature dived at Portia then she stretched both arms as a powerful wind blew it backwards, then another from the back, and strong winds started blowing it from all angles, till it was imprisoned in a sphere of inescapable winds.
It screeched as Portia caused the voids or spaces between the air molecules to expand, creating a vacuum that tore the creature's body apart.
She would never hurt an innocent creature, but one which hurt people and other creatures like this one and the Nandi bears, she wouldn't think twice before putting in their place, you could say she had Kofi's fire at heart.
She had faced eight creatures by the time she went home and didn't even break a sweat.
In her room, she decided to practice her atom rearranging skill.
She focused on a glass of water on her bedside table and her hand shivered as bubbles began to form in the water, then it began boiling violently and glowing blue, then the glass exploded as the water splashed and the blue spheres diffused into the air, what were those spheres?
She practiced that skill basically everywhere; in her closet, at the dinner table, in the bathroom, at school, at basically every place she found herself, and in a week, she had improved drastically.
She could now create basically anything from thin air without teleporting or stealing it, as long as she knew its molecular makeup and arrangement.
But she soon became so used to it, she could rearrange atoms without even thinking of the atoms, she just had to want something done, then it was, but something always baffled her.
Whenever she worked with water vapour and wanted to make it hotter, like hot enough to make another state of matter, it began to glow.
The glow was usually neon blue, though there were sometimes splashes of other colours; purple, pink, red, orange, green were a few of the colours she often saw, but why did this happen?
Of course she tried zooming in and asked other sources and the only answers she got, was ions.
On zooming in, she couldn't identify anything as atoms looked ridiculously weird and complicated, but on consulting Manfred, he said,"You are ionising the water, which gives you the blue colour, the impurities present provide the other colours."
"I don't get it."She said.
"~Sigh~You just made plasma, electricity, red and hot charges."
She just disconnected her connection with him at that moment... electricity?! It began to make so much sense, she wanted a new state of matter and then she got it.
But instead of rearranging the atoms in a static lattice, she made them move faster in one to achieve it, but never expected it to yield something like this, don't get her wrong, her school had taught her about the four states of matter, ions, ionisation energy and what not, but she couldn't connect the dots in that way.
What if she could control it?
She first put a block of ice in her hands, sending a chill up her spine as her hands went numb.
She closed her eyes and let out a deep breath, then focused on making the atoms gain energy.
It began to melt in her hands, but ever so slowly, she couldn't tell if it was natural or just her.
She continued trying as it melted, then tried to imagine a three dimensional graph around the melting ice, the three axes accounting to the three directions of motion, then she tried her best to place the ice in a higher plane then felt a force push her hand, from the ice.
She removed her hand as the ice began to float in the air, then she took another deep breath then waved her hand as it began melting, she imagined the drops of water occupying a bowl like arrangement and it began to happen till someone barged into the room and she lost concentration and dropped everything.
She looked at the tree nymph symbiote, Skylar's cousin then asked what was wrong.
Flora then told her it was time for dinner.
She looked at the mess she had made then said she'd come after cleaning it up, but the impatient Flora said the maids would do it.
It was obvious Portia just wanted to continue, but Flora didn't seem to know...or care.
They went down the stairs where Portia bumped into Skylar, whom she hadn't seen the entire weekend.
He had thought she was sick, but when he saw her walking to dinner, perfectly fine, he began having doubts.
They were having a usual buffet as supper, and Portia just took something simple so she could leave soon, without making eye contact with Skylar to avoid any distractions, she finished her food and was about to leave when he followed her and grabbed her by the wrist.
She turned to face him and saw his silver eyes...he was hurt.
He asked her what was wrong, but she didn't want him to know yet as she wasn't any closer to unlocking the truth than before.
She just said she was busy, then his eyes grew darker, like a black smoke was poured into them, then he asked,"Too busy...for me?"
She widened her eyes then said,"No, that's not what I meant."
"Then what do you mean? Do you know how worried I've been? You locked yourself in your room for days on end and never came out, every time I tried reaching out for you, you looked pale and told me to leave...I thought you...I don't know what I thought."
She looked at him, then grabbed his wrist with her other hand then said he should follow her, before dragging him to the stairs.
When in her darkened room, he asked what was going on, then she switched on the light and he saw the water on the floor.
He was about to get the maids when she said he should wait, then stretched her arm at it.
The fibres on the wet carpet started tingling as the water on the tiled floor began to make waves.
She slowly raised her hand as the water lifted up into the air, just as slowly.
"You...you..."He stuttered,"...you are a hydrokinetic?!"
She smiled then said,"That's not all."
She then imagined the water molecules spreading in a larger area, in the shape of a circle, then the water evaporated and Skylar stumbled backwards.
She had only ever gotten this far, but she had to continue.
She imagined the water molecules disintegrating into Hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions then opened her hands and arcs of electricity began forming till she immediately closed her hand and it stopped.
He asked,"Why did you stop?"
"I can't do it, I'm not yet good.."
"No, don't say that, try again."
She looked at him, then back at the empty air, then stretched her arm again, and imagined the three dimensional grid again, imagined water molecules gathering up together, this time, in the shape of a sphere, then opened her hands as charges began building up, then there was a zapping sound and she opened her eyes and gasped as Skylar gently placed his hands on her shoulders then whispered in her ears,"I knew you could do it."
They looked at the blue plasma globe like sphere of charges in the centre of her room, with different colours occasionally appearing, zapping, then changing.
Skylar looked at her then asked,"Do you know what this means?"
"That I can change not only the kind of substance but also the state of matter?"
"That you can create energy of your own will."
"What? No."
"Then where did the atoms get the energy to vaporise? Or ionise? Energy doesn't just appear on its own, there has to be a source, you."
She looked into his eyes then looked down and said,"I'm getting dangerous, aren't I?"
"Only more and more dangerous to my heart."He said.
Then he gently kissed her as glowing currents of light began to swirl around the sphere, then they formed a four dimensional tesseract around it...
