"Hey Betty-Ann, what's up," I said, walking up to them
"Who's he?" The guy asked
"He's just a friend," She said
"Really? You're friends with losers now" the guy laughed
"It's none of your business who I'm friends with," she spat at him
"Whatever. Just make sure you're there tonight. The boss doesn't like waiting," he said
"Whatever. Can you just please get lost please?" She said
"Fine, I've got better things to take care of anyway. See you tonight beautiful," he said, kissing her before getting on the bike that oddly looked exactly like hers
"Mind telling me what that was," I asked
"An old acquittance," she said, walking past me
"So you kiss all your acquittances like that," I said
"What's wrong, it was just a kiss," she said before I stopped
"Just a kiss."
"Huh-uh"
"Does a kiss mean nothing to you?" I asked
"Not particularly it's just skin-touching. You don't freak out over a handshake, do you?" she said
"So what are you saying that last night was just a kiss too. Just a handshake?" I asked, clenching my fist
"Yeah, what did you expect from a girl that strips in front of a guy on the first date," she said sarcastically
"So you're expecting me to believe you're that easy. You're saying I could have just asked for sex and you'd just lay down" I said getting angrier
"That was quite a leap from what we were talking about, but it wouldn't be the first time," she said. Her calm demeanor and tone seemed to have a way of pissing me off
"It would have been for me. And you know what..." I said before the bell rang
"I have to head to class," I said walking away. I was pissed and the fact the teacher still left work even though she was absent didn't make it better. My mood remained sour for practically the whole day. So as soon as the final bell rang, I drove home and raided the fridge. I wanted to go straight down to my lab, but I decided to just take a break from the experiments and just watch Netflix. After about three and a half hours of mindless watching whatever was on the Dad's Curved 65-Inch TV, I heard the doorbell ring. Having calmed down a bit I got off the couch and rushed over to the door. Secretly, I had been hoping it was Betty-Ann that had come to apologize or at least talk to me
"Oh, it's you," I said disappointed
"Nice to see you too," Sophie said sarcastically
"Sorry come on in," I said, moving her out of the way
"Thanks," she said, walking in
"So what are you doing here?" I asked
"The assignment," she said
"Okay, but I thought we decided not to study in private," I said
"Yeah, but your dad's here. So I don't think anything like 'that' would happen again," she said making her way to the dining
"Actually he's not. He left saying he was gonna meet up with someone. What about your mom isn't she back too? We can just go to your house," I said
"She didn't come home. Apparently, she's working overtime on the project they had been talking about" Sophie shrugged, taking a seat around the dining table
"Oh well, nothing like that will happen. After all, we're both happily seeing someone now," she said
"Happily seeing someone?" I said a sad smile as I sat at the opposite end of the table
"What's that look for?" she asked
"Nothing," I said
"Come on Taylor you can't lie to me"
"I was just wondering who that girl with Nick was"
"First of all, you weren't and second I didn't tell you so you could use it against me like that"
"Yeah, I'm sorry, but I'm seriously wondering why you didn't tell Liberty"
"How do you know I didn't tell Liberty?" she asked before I bit my lip realizing my mistake
"... Wait, did she ask you? " She asked,
"Well... um...." I said
"I can't believe she would do that"
"Really?" I asked. That was not something out of the ordinary for Liberty
"Fine, you didn't tell her anything did you?"
"It was either I tell her or she goes to Nick. I figured there would be fewer injuries if I told her."
"Wait, she went to Nick"
"Probably shouldn't have said that," I said mentally kicking myself
"You know what I'll talk to her later. Let's just start the assignment; do you have any pens and pencils?"
"Sure, it's in the garage cabinet," I said getting up
"No, don't get up I'll handle it," she said
"You sure?" I said, sitting back down
"Yeah first draw on the right, right?"
"Yeah," I said before she left. I patiently waited for ten minutes for her to come back and when she did she seemed rather vexed. I watched her, but she didn't say anything as she silently moved back to her seat
"You found the pens?" I asked, curious what prompted the change of moods
"No, but I found this," she said, throwing Betty's black lace panties over to me
"Mind explaining that to me," she said
"Actually, yes I do mind," I said
"Wow, who would have thought the great James Isaac Taylor would turn out to be that guy. As for Turner, everyone knows she's that girl," she said
"And what do you mean by that?" I glared
"The type of girl that gives it up on the first date of course"
"She's not"
"Oh, so I guess her underwear just magically came off her body and got in your car"
"Nothing happened," I snarled
"That's bullshit. I bet you slept with her, didn't you? Honestly, James, I expected you to at least have some class and enough dignity, not to sleep with someone on the first date" she scolded
"NOTHING HAPPENED!!!" I yelled
"And even if something did, it wouldn't have been any of your business. Why the hell do you even care when or who I sleep with. You're not my girlfriend. You're my lab partner so you have neither the need nor the right to question who I decide to sleep with. As my lab partner, I would like for you not to interfere with my personal affairs outside of the projects we are assigned" I said harshly scolding Sophie who looked as if she had seen a ghost. After overcoming her initial shock she took up her bag and got out of the seat
"Wait. I'm sorry," I said, realizing I might have been too blunt
"No, it's fine. I think I should go. Oh, and before I forget I saw your new girlfriend buying something from a real shady-looking guy" she said before she left.
"Shady guy?" I said as thoughts of the guy from this morning crossed my mind
"Why am I even thinking about this it has nothing to do with me anyway?" I sighed slamming my head into the wooden table. I closed my eyes for a second when the doorbell rang again. I got up and went to open the door. Not even bothering to see who it was I yelled
"What Sophie!" I yelled annoyed before I noticed it was Betty. She was shaking with terror, her eyes seemed to be red as if she had been crying
"Betty-Ann?" I questioned
"C-c-can I come in?" she stammered
