Dad seemed entertained by Jiego’s fresh-from-a-story-book life story. After that surprisingly easy conversation, Dad invited him to see his farm. Jiego seemed willing to do so and I let him.
Mom and I were left in the kitchen. She promised my fiancé braised pork and mushroom soup for lunch.
While she was chopping the vegetables into small slices, I sliced the pork belly into thin pieces. She monitored me and I couldn’t help but avoid her eyes. While the two men were discussing about Jiego’s inspiring life story and other stuff about the company, mom was silent.
I was waiting for her to butt in in the conversation but she didn’t speak a word.
“Mom?”
“Yes, dear?” – the answer was automatic. Though she didn’t look up from slicing the red bell peppers.
“You didn’t react about my news. Are you disappointed with me?”
