Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

Maya's Pov

It was already morning, the sun was shining through the small window. I know

I know I have to get up and do the housework or I'll alert my uncle, but I could not get up.

I have never felt so empty in my life, I slowly dragged my body to the edge of the bed and reluctantly got up. If I were under different circumstances, I might stay in bed today, but alas, that is not possible today.

When my uncle realizes I am not here, he'll drag himself here. I went into my little bathroom and tried to wash, but when I looked in the mirror, I found that my eyes were all red and swollen from all the crying.

I sighed, if only my father was here I would not be in this mess, I walked out of my cabin and then went to the kitchen door that led into the house. Only now did I realize that I had not closed the door when I walked out, my eyes lingered on the keys I had left in the door and I sighed.

Immediately I reached forward and took them out, hoping that no one had come here and noticed, I opened the door and entered the kitchen. After closing the door behind me, I went to the bucket of water that I had put there earlier. I decided to continue where I had left off last night.

As I turned around I was startled by the person standing in front of me, the bucket fell out of my hand and the water poured onto the floor, but I did not bother with it. I stared at my uncle who was standing in front of me, his eyes fixed on me like a hawk, as if I were his next target too.

He was wearing a black suit with shiny black shoes and a grey tie. His hair was combed back and his blue eyes emphasized his beauty, if only he were also beautiful at heart.

" Good morning uncle," I whispered and lowered my gaze to the floor. Why would this man be here in the morning?

I thought he had already left.

" Were you here last night?" He did not beat around the bush and got straight to the point, that was his habit.

" No," I replied, trying to remain calm, but the moment, when he asked that I was already in a panic and hoped that he did not notice that I had overheard his conversation, I wiped my sweaty palms on my dress.

"Are you sure?" He added,

I nodded immediately, hoping he would leave without asking any more questions, but I did not notice that his hand, which was behind him, was holding something that belonged to me.

I thought this conversation was over and I could get back to my work, but as I reached out to take the bucket, a hand grabbed my hand and pulled me so tightly that I gasped.

I looked up at the grim-faced man in front of me and my heart dropped; he knew I was there last night.

" How dare to lie to me," he yelled in my face,

I backed away, fear rushing through my veins and my mind went black for a second.

He reached behind him with his hand and took out a jacket, my big eyes got stuck in it. Of course, it was mine and I had been wearing it last night when I came in, I took it off and put it on the kitchen table. I forgot about it, now I knew lying would not help, so I bit down on my lower lip and looked at my uncle with red eyes.

I was his flesh and blood and yet he is so willing to sell me out and get what he wants without a second thought about how I am going to cope and what it was going to be like after all this.

" What did you hear?" He asked in a raspy voice that sent a shiver down my spine.

" Nothing," I whispered,

His grip on my wrist tightened and I whimpered, he looked down at me and I felt exposed.

He let go of my wrist ungently and before I could take a step back he grabbed my hair in one fist and my chin in the other hand, his eyes put me in deep fear.

"Let go of me," I said through clenched teeth and his grip on my chin tightened so that it began to hurt. I looked at him with red eyes.

" What did you hear?" He asked again, I could feel his anger in every word.

" Nothing" I replied, no way I was going to tell him. I thought what he had discussed with this man was only about my life, why is he so concerned about what I heard?

It was not like I could tell anyone about it, I don't even have a person to talk to in this house.

" You are lying again?" He yelled and let go of me, he slapped me hard so that I fell to the ground unsteadily.

I felt a metallic taste in my mouth and spat out blood, I raised my red eyes and looked up at him.

The fact that he was treating me like this for his benefit made me sad, but actually, I was not surprised, my uncle had always been evil.

The house was so quiet, and I noticed that his wife and children had left as usual, that my heart was pounding in my chest. This means that I am not sure that no one can stop him and that he will do anything to get answers.

I watched him get closer, and I tried to take a step back, but before I could get any further, he was already close. He grabbed me by the hair and tilted my head so that I was now looking him directly in the eyes, my whole body was shaking so much.

" You have the nerve to keep lying to me," he added,

I do not understand why he would take this so seriously, my mind was buzzing with questions, but I had never felt a sense of danger that overwhelmed me so much. I have to get out of here, I have to leave this place, no matter what.

I bit my lower lip hard, there was no way I was going to say anything, no matter what.

" It's your duty to make sure this family gets only the best in the world, that's the only way you can repay us for all we have done for you," he said,

I listened to him carefully, because I had a lot to say, but I did not know where to start. I decided not to respond and just looked at him as if I were crazy and did not understand what he was saying.

What do I owe his family, what do I owe this family. Th? torture and pain they put me through, they everything I hoped for in this life. My education and my family fortune, what more do they want?

He even has the gall to expect something from me, he wants me to blindly agree to his sick plans for me. I will not let that happen, I have to go no matter what.

When he saw that I was not going to answer, he let go of me rudely, then stood up, reached into his pocket and took out a handkerchief, slowly wiped his hands, and threw it to me.

I looked after him as he left the kitchen, slowly I got up and went to the sink, good thing I was not that hurt.

I washed my face and rinsed my mouth. It hurt a little, but I couldn't do anything. After that, I went to the kitchen door and entered the dining room. I looked around to see if I could see my uncle, but he was nowhere to be seen.

He must have left, after all the company wanted him to be present every day. I went to the living room and that was empty too, finally, I could sigh out loud. Although I had tried this many times before and failed, I still wanted to try.

I looked around again and couldn't see any sign of him, so I went to the front door. I couldn't stop myself from holding my breath, my nerves on edge as I looked around once more.

I reached for the door and pulled it open slowly and quietly, my heart pounding so loudly I was afraid anyone would hear.

I didn't step out right away but just looked around. My uncle had placed his guards around the house and even if he wasn't there they'd alert him if they saw me.

Today seemed to be my lucky day because I couldn't see any of them, I looked at the gate and the guards weren't there either. I don't know why, but something didn't feel right at that moment.

It was all suspicious, how could the guards who were always on duty just disappear like that? Something isn't right here and I'm curious about what it's, but I don't have much time to think about it.

If they're not here, then it's their fault, I'll use that to my advantage, so I opened the door wider and then walked out. I closed it quietly behind me, looked around again, and saw no one, so I ran like a mad woman to the gate.

When I got to the center, I heard a voice behind me and my heart leaped. I almost turned my head to look when I heard footsteps behind me, but I held back.

I didn't want anything to stop me and now I'm closer to the gate, I get there and it's closed, I'm fidgeting and I don't know what to do next.

No, no, I've got to get out of here, I turned around and realised it was the guard. Not knowing what to do next, I turned back to the gate, looked at it, and did whatever came to mind.

I started climbing it, at the moment I wasn't in my right mind to even think about what was going on, but all I wanted was to be far away from my uncle.

Just as I reached the top I heard a gunshot behind me and froze, my whole body started shaking and everything went silent.

"Come down," I heard my uncle's voice, I looked out the gate and felt desperate and scared. No, I wanted to leave this place, but to this extent, there was no point.

Slowly I descended, no matter how much I hurried, it was so clear that my uncle would shoot me. I got back on my feet and turned to look at him, he was standing there watching me.

I thought he had left, but now it seems I was wrong all along, because when I saw the gun in his hand I was so afraid of even going on. My whole body was shaking and my legs almost gave out, the guard behind him moved towards me and I almost took a step back, if only I had known where to go.

When they arrived in front of me I didn't fight back, it was useless. One of them grabbed me by the arm and pulled me to where my uncle was standing. I didn't fight back, I just followed him, trying to look strong even though I was breaking inside.

I was now standing in front of my uncle and looked up at him. I wanted so badly to be far away from him, but I knew that wasn't going to happen. He didn't say anything and just kept pointing the gun at me, the urge to apologize was getting stronger but I bit my lower lip to stop myself from saying anything else.

Would he kill me now if I didn't follow his plans, maybe he can? It's not like I mean something to him.
