Chapter 2 - The Death of Don Maclony

The city of New York was a dangerous place, controlled by nine powerful mafia bosses, each with their own territory and criminal enterprises. But there was one man who stood above them all, the feared and respected Don Maclony, also known as Scared Face. With his leadership, the mafia had thrived, and the other bosses had followed his orders without question.

However, fate had a different plan for Don Maclony. While traveling to a meeting with the other bosses, his private plane crashed, and he was killed instantly. The news of his death spread quickly through the underworld, and the other bosses began to feel a sense of unease.

As they gathered in a dimly lit room in the heart of the city, the mood was tense. Without a leader, the mafia was vulnerable to attacks from rival gangs and law enforcement. The bosses knew that they needed to choose a new leader quickly, but each of them had their own ambitions and agendas.

The first to speak was Vito Rossi, the boss of the North Side. "I believe that I am the most qualified to lead us forward. My men are the most loyal, and we have the most extensive network of contacts in the city."But Donatella Bianchi, the only female boss, quickly interjected. "That may be true, Vito, but your methods are too heavy-handed. We need a leader who can operate more discreetly and avoid drawing too much attention to ourselves."

The other bosses nodded in agreement, and Salvatore Gambino, the boss of the South Side, spoke up. "I propose that we elect a council of three bosses to oversee the operations of the mafia. That way, we can avoid any one person having too much power."

But the other bosses were skeptical of this idea, and they argued that it would lead to infighting and a lack of direction.

As the discussion continued, tensions began to rise, and it became clear that each boss was more interested in their own interests than the good of the mafia as a whole. It was then that a voice spoke out, cutting through the noise and commanding everyone's attention.

It was Carlo DiMartino, the quietest and most reserved of the bosses, who rarely spoke unless he had something important to say. "I suggest that we each put our names into a hat, and draw one out at random. Whoever is chosen will be the new leader of the mafia. This way, we can avoid any accusations of favoritism or infighting."

The other bosses were surprised by this proposal, but they eventually agreed that it was the fairest way to proceed. The room fell silent as each boss wrote their name on a slip of paper and placed it into a hat.Carlo reached in and drew out a slip of paper, which he handed to Vito. The room erupted into cheers and applause as Vito was declared the new Don of the mafia.

But even as the others congratulated him, Vito knew that his reign would not be an easy one. He would have to deal with rival gangs, corrupt politicians, and his own ambitious subordinates. But he was determined to uphold the legacy of Don Maclony and prove that he was worthy of the title of Mafia King.
