Chapter 7 - Please don't take me to the police station

"Why do you think that I am qualified to teach your children?" Nora asked

"I investigated you and found out that you had a lesson centre where you taught children with learning disabilities, the reports showed that those children who were taught by you ended up excelling in their studies." She replied calmly.

Nora was wowed, she never knew that someone that investigated her would find this part of her.

"Why did you even stop the lesson." Ivy asked.

"If you did not investigate the reason then I don't think I am ready to tell you the long story this morning and If I'm not mistaken, we were talking about you and not me here." Nora said. She did not wish to divert from the topic and start talking about herself.

Ivy smiled. "What's my next question?" she asked.

"What do you do for a living?" Nora also needed to be sure that the person she worked with was not into anything illegal. Even though she knew she would only take what this person told her and did not have the resources to investigate if it was true or not, she still asked.

"I'm a programmer and a hacker. I'm also temporarily managing the Shine Group" Ivy replied.

Nora looked at her in awe. 'She was managing a company as big as the Shine group and also was an hacker. Little wonder, she could give her that huge amount of money without being moved.

Nora asked all the questions she wanted to ask, trying her best not to ask about her private life. All her questions were answered justly and they were able to get along well with each other.

They discussed other things, and it was soon time for her to leave.

She had to resume work soon.

She could not be with the children all the time so they hired another home teacher who taught when she was not around. The teacher took them on few subjects that was easier to understand.

Ivy finally found someone she could talk to and she became friends with Nora in the long run.

Nora got along well with the children and they clinged unto her as the day went by. On the course of teaching them, she realised that they were average students and brushed them up to be the best they could be. Ivy on the other hand made sure that Nora never left her place hungry. Nora rejected the food on the first and second day and could not reject it on the third day so she gradually got accustomed to having her dinner at Ivy's home.

Nora realised that she had even less time to visit her parents in the hospital, so she decided to organise herself and created time for visiting them.

It was weekend again.

Nora felt she had spent lesser time on her self and decided not to go to the hospital today even though she was less busy.

She decided to go to the beach to chill.

After playing for a long time alone at the beach, she found out that she seemed to be the only one who came here alone. The people here came with their families and loved ones. One would feel left aside when they saw couples displaying their affection for each other but Nora was not moved by any of those scenes.

The noise from thundering was heard and the cloud darkened. It was obvious that heavy rain was about to fall. She thought to call it a day and started finding her way back.

It started drizzling and soon the rain became heavy falling on the roof tops with chattering noises and sending dust into people's eyes.

She was near the entrance of the beach when the rain started.

She was not with an umbrella or raincoat to shield herself from the rain. While she was collaborating on what to do, she noticed a little girl sneaking past the security. The girl, noticing that someone had seen her gestured at her to keep quiet and Nora complied.

When the girl saw that she complied, she immediately ran to her and hugged her  tight.

"Please save me, hide me till they're gone. I don't want them to kill me." The girl whispered.

Nora who remained unmoved since was dumbfounded. 'Who was this girl and who was threatening her life?'

"Who are you?" Nora managed to ask.

The canopy above them was suddenly uncovered and was sent flying by the wind that accompanied the rain.

After which shouts was heard from afar and everyone was running towards their  direction, Nora not knowing what just happened was scared as she impulsively picked the little girl that looked about eight years old and ran.

The water had overflowed its bank and everyone was running for their lives. The water drowned some people and Nora who luckily, was near the entrance was able to save herself and the child.  When they arrived at a safe place, she wanted to take the child to the police station but the child objected.

"Please take me to your house, the police would hand me over to them." The child begged scared. Nora was even more scared hearing her words. Hope she was not leading herself to another pit that would be almost, if not impossible to come out from.

She looked at the girl hesitantly.

"Why do you think I will not hand you over to them." she asked the girl.

"You will not. I know you are a kind lady you won't hand me to them." the girl seemed assured that she would not send her away even though she did not know this lady. She would rather trust this stranger than trust those kidnappers that said they were taking her to her mom.

The girl suddenly looked in a particular direction and saw the people that were chasing after her. She held Nora's hand tightly.

"They are looking for me please let's go."

Nora looked in the direction that the little girl looked at just now, only to find the cops and some rescue agents who had arrived to save the people in the beach. She did not see any reason to believe the girl but she nonetheless picked the girl and got to where she hailed a cab back to her place with the girl drenched

When they got to the bus stop closest to her house, she saw her neighbour who was struggling under the rain to pull her daughter and also make sure the baby in the carriage was covered from the rain. Her child was not helping matters as she waked sluggishly. Nora understood that they must have walked a long distance. Nora greeted them and Annabel came down from her to enable her help the lady carry her child.

'What a smart girl' Nora thought when she noticed the girl's movements.

She went ahead to help her neighbour carry her tired daughter who thanked her and fled with the little one with her.

She knew that Nora would bring her daughter back so she cared less about her and rushed home scared that the little one she was carrying would suffer from pneumonia for staying under the rain for too long.

"Just follow me. If I walk too fast and you fail to catch up call me back so you won't end up getting lost." Nora said to the girl who nodded in response and Nora moved without looking back.

Somewhere else, the people there noticed that the girl who was fast asleep before they left  to eat was no longer there. They immediately began their search and saw her figure sneaking into the beach from afar. The sky gave warning signs that it was about to pour

They got into the car in other to get there faster and the car refused to move.  They looked at the gas  indicator and found out that the vehicle which was filled not long before now lacked gas. They abandoned the car and ran towards the beach where they saw her enter. They believed that they would find her as the  security would not allow her to get in. 'Even if the girl was smarter than they thought, she wouldn't be smart enough to know that she could not freely enter there.'
