Chapter 16
Valentine was floating in the middle of the classroom with a bunch of wisps around her. "Good day class. Take your seats." The wisps were brighter than they normally were, and they seemed overly excited.
"The wisps are feeding off you." Lauren surmised.
"Yes. I feed them so they don't feed off others. Plus, it keeps them on our side."
"I guess. I just wondered how they stayed around. With you being an immortal being, it doesn't matter if they feed off you." Lauren deduced.
"That's true. I have an everlasting life force. I will teach you this once you join the dragon."
"Does everyone know about that?"
"Of course. We will all be a part of the joining. We are all a part of you. When you gain power, so do we. The stronger we are as a group, the easier it is to maintain the realms and the divide." Valentine said.
"I'm glad you are. I never thought about it that way. We do need to be strong together."
"Your lesson today is to learn to talk to the wisps and to understand their replies," Valentine said as she nodded her head.
The students tried for the rest of the class period to talk to wisps. Lauren got one to sit on Tayla's head and the harpy just laughed.
"There has been a huge difference in you since your first day. Two weeks… you have more than two weeks of growth." Valentine looked over at Lauren and smiled. "That's so wonderful. I feel your grandma and Leventavia! The beauty of a good mix of powers. That is delicious."
"I'm glad you approve."
"Very much so. You are doing wonderful. You even got wisps to honor you. Several say they want to stay with you. I will let them but not yet. You have to be stronger and joining with the dragon will do the trick. Go to your next class. We will see you later."
"She sounds so relaxed." Demeatral joked.
In P.E. Tosh and Cosh were running races; dashing from one side of the track to the other trying to beat each other. The students were paired up and ran dash drills. At the end of class, they ran the 2-mile run as normal. Cosh stopped the run twice because the new unicorns were running away from the group. He scolded them and made them run 2 extra miles saying, "We are a team that supports the keeper, not leave her." Sylva stayed with Jon and paced with him. They giggled and smiled at each other, Edmon laughed the entire time.
Lunch was next and Lauren, Edmon, and Demeatral went to eat with Evandalyn. "It's so good to see you. You look better."
"Yeah, I think I have come to a balanced understanding of the ceremony. I can handle it. I mean, when mating was first mentioned you told me that it is natural in this realm to have many mates. You have also said that Gerald will understand and be patient with me. I will do the ceremony. I am at peace with it."
"That's wonderful and you should accept any ceremony that comes to you as a joining. Anything that is more than a joining, you can debate and put off because those are like marriages." Evandalyn explained.
"I see the difference."
"Now, the ceremony won't happen until later. We need to have a training session and you need to meditate in your library and read one of your magic power books. You have mastered discernment and meditation. You were supposed to read Telekinesis for dummies. I want you to read Creation and Invention next. That way you can create alicorns and maybe invent protections."
"Okay." Lauren laid in a meditative state and drifted into her mind. Her grandmother was there but she was hiding like she didn't want Evandalyn to see her.
"Be sure to read everything thoroughly. Get every detail." Evandalyn encouraged.
"Can you read my books?"
"No, I can only read them if you show them to me or if you read them out loud. Anything you read out loud will be available to anyone that can get in your mind."
"Okay. I just wanted to be sure that I am being safe. " Lauren said.
She silently re-read her book on telekinesis and meditation. Then she read the creation and invention book. She re-read the creation of animals section, so that she could put it to practice. "Evandalyn, will Levi be able to stand me bringing him into my mind?"
"I'm glad you asked instead of just doing it. Yes. He can withstand it. Let Demeatral go get him."
"Okay." Lauren read the instructions again and created what she needed in her mind. When she felt Levi near, she drew him in.
"Hi, Levi. I need to get some things from you to try to do some creation magic practice."
Levi smiled, "You can get whatever you want from me. I really hope this works."
"I make no promises and I will only try in my mind's lab right now. I don't want to create dark creatures in the real world. I will practice first."
"I understand," Levi said. "I'm just happy you are willing to try."
Lauren got what she needed and let Levi go. She stayed a few more minutes and then came to herself again.
When she sat up, she stretched and rubbed her eyes clear. "I feel very drained." She never felt this strained after meditation. Once she ate and rested a little bit, she felt better.
"Are you okay, dear?" Evandalyn asked.
"Yes. I am now."
"Good. The dragon is at the door."
