Chereads / Venom in my system / Chapter 8 - 8

Chapter 8 - 8

The wind was howling. The fog covered the landscape with a heaviness you could almost cut with a knife.

Suddenly footsteps were heard rushing toward me from behind. I was frozen with fear, and the heavy breathing was terrifying when her screams pierced the dead silence in the still of the night.

Drops of blood covered the glistening blade, dripping with the scent of fresh blood. My eyes burned like embers in a flame, and shadows danced on the pavement.

The pounding of a dying heartbeat broke the roar of the surface. Life oozed out of my mouth like a bright red river.

My mouth was draining red like oral surgery had gone wrong. In crayons, it would be called 'brick red,' but coming from my mouth, anyone could see it wasn't crayons.

Blood can leak out almost anywhere, which is the reason for bandaids and stitches. But seeping out the pie-hole wasn't normal.

Maka looked down at her prey as her eyes glowing red. Her thirst for blood was unlike anything else before.

With her heart pounding, the taste of warm blood made her feel alive, and the heartbeat slowed down as the motionless body lay on the ground in the chilly weather, howling wind.

She stood in the mirror, running her index finger down the bite mark of Kai, the unforgettable sensation she felt while he was sucking her. She turned around and walked over to the window.

These people walk unknowingly into their own traps. "Kai," she whispered, "you are the chosen one."

Its ears were pointed slightly forward on the wolf's forehead, neck hair and hackles were raised, ivory teeth appeared between the jaws, its tongue moved around its mouth, and saliva dripped from its lips. It was 02h32am, and I had this thirst for hunger. Being surrounded by trees, I could hear the finest sounds, and I heard Maka whisper my name, I stopped looking back. There was a homeless guy under the tree. I leaned down and moved slowly towards him with my paws.

"Don't, Kai," came a whisper.

I looked around, but there was no one. My heavy paws had soaked into the soft sand as I moved. Maka picked up the red stone, which was glowing bring she had placed it on the table next to the blue one.

"Come back," said a strange whisper.

My head suddenly throbbed as I moved back behind the tree, looking down at the sand. My saliva dripped onto the grass as I heavy breathed.

I felt coldness through my thick layer of fur and warm touches. Sensationally adrenalizing my system.

My hunger and thirst had faded. I turned around, and there she stood, Maka, wearing black leather tight-fitted pants and a black lace-Up bustier cropped tube top.

Her hair had curls hung loosely settling over her shoulder. Her eyelashes shadowed her dark eyes with her perfectly shaped red eyeliner, making her eyes appear even dark. She stood there calmly. Was she not afraid I was going to attack her? I had no appetite.

The hunger I had felt a few minutes ago was no longer there. She ran her fingers over my fur. It felt warm; her gentle touch was the only light revealing the darkest shadows.

Suddenly the ground beneath me felt hard. My hands hurt, and my knees.

My knees? Was I kneeling? I looked down, and my hand, "It's time," came a whisper before it fell into complete darkness.

"Kai, get your sister ready."

The bright light came sharp, like laser light, through my window as I covered my eyes with my arm.

My mouth felt dry, and my energy level felt weak when I suddenly recalled what had happened: "Kai if I have to come up there, I will personally drag you out of bed."

"Yes, mom," I answered, wiping my eyes, "what day is it today?" I asked myself, looking over at the clock.

It was Monday, and mom, who had been pulling double shifts, was already up and ready for work. "Where does she get the energy?" I asked myself.

I sat up, I looked around, and as I lifted my leg out of bed, it looked oddly different. It seemed muscular, or was it my imagination? I pushed myself up.

I walked over to the bathroom bare chest, looked up in the mirror, what is this I am seeing? I moved in closer, and my body had a slight change.

I smiled, lifting the toilet seat. I saw the chain, and without thinking much of it, I placed it around my neck.

My tiredness was no longer there. I got dressed and then realized I didn't need my glasses. My eyesight improved, and my optometrist always said it would get weaker in time, but it has not as of today, or recently my vision has improved.

My mom stepped into the room, pushing over the door.

"Listen, Kai, I know I have not been the best mom." she paused, frowning and walking closer.

"Mom, what is it?."

I panic, "mom? What is it?"

She smiled, "you look different, son?"

"Different?" I pretended not to know what she was talking about.

Jia walked in and pulled my mom on her skirt, "and you, my angel, I love you both." Why was mom acting so weird?

"Mom, is everything okay?" I said

"Yes, of course, just take care of your sister, no matter what."

"Mom, it sounds like you are saying goodbye?"

My mom smiled and placed her hand on my cheek, "promise me you will take care of yourself and your sister, don't let anyone fool you.

Social services, if they come, don't allow them to separate you from your sister."

"Mom, what are you talking about?"

My mom leaned in, kissed my forehead, and then got down on her knees, "Jia, look at me, honey. You and your brother will be in each other's lives no matter what, and try not to give your brother a hard time, be there for each other."

"Mom, she is six years old. Does she understand you?"

Jia looked up at me and answered, "I am not stupid, Kai."

Mom smiled, "I have to go now. Get your sister ready for school and take out the trash."

Mom is back. That's the bossy mom I knew, and mom exited the room.

I tidied up my room and went downstairs. Jia was sitting there with her cereal. Mom had left, "Jia, who made that for you?"

"Mom," she gave me a short response, eating her cereal.

"We have to get going soon."

The monitor switched on, and it was Maka. She sat there. She seemed paler than usual, "are you okay?" I asked concernedly.

Maka nodded, "Hello, Jia," she gave a light smile. Something is wrong, "Maka, are you okay?"

She nodded, "have a great day at school, both of you."

"Maka wait."

"Yes Kai?"

"Last night, what happened?"

Maka went silent for a moment touching her neck, then looked at me, "what do you mean?"

"Like, did I see you?"

She looked away, "I wasn't around Kai. We could not have met up."

I scratched my head. Was it all a dream? The blue stone had started to glow. Maka's eyes grew wide, "Kai, since when does the blue stone light up?"

"It's been doing that all morning."

"Was anyone you know hurt or killed?"

"Not that I know. Why do you ask?"

Maka's eyes became darker, "Kai," she said sternly, "is there something you are not telling me?"

"We have to go. I am sorry. I will catch up with you later."

I did what she always did. It was the first time I ended the call while she was still talking.

"Jia, how long are you still going to eat? We need to get going."

I still couldn't believe my vision had improved. Jia stood up and picked up her backpack. When opening the door, Maka stood there, "you hung up on me?"

"Yes, you do it all the time. What is the problem?"

"You don't realize." She paused, looking down at Jia.

Her eyes became watery, "hey, Maka, what is it you are not telling."

"You getting her ready for school?"

"Yes, Maka, can we do this another time cause it is 07h45?"

Maka shook her head, then slowly looked at the blue stone through my white shirt, "be safe."

"I am always safe, thank you."

"Goodbye, Maka. I will call you after school."

"Sure, Kai, just take care of yourself."

Why is everyone telling me that today? I thought. Maka walked away, and I was able to get Jia to school on time.

Maka had followed us without us noticing. She could see what I could: dark shadows moving around me. I had arrived at school, and Maka could get in through the back of the fence. As I entered the hallway, she stood with her back facing me, wearing a baseball cap.

"Kai, report to the principles offices immediately," Maka followed me without me noticing.

When entering, she could see through the glass window.

"Kai," the principal stood up, "I am not sure how to tell you this, but I have some devasting news."

I narrowed my eyes, "your mom has been killed this morning crossing over Oakland park from where she had parked her car."

"No, you are mistaken, thats not my mom's route."

"We will gather more information later. Do you have any family?"
