Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Tutors

"Back straight!" Madame Love spat. Maria could feel the spittle hit her face and she thought it was quite disgusting. She thought Madame Love was quite disgusting. Most people that have met Madame Love think that she is disgusting.

Thwack!

Madame Love's cane hit her back and Maria quickly straightened her back.

"Yes ma'am."

Now one thing that you need to remember is that Madame Love's name was ironic. She was not lovely at all, in fact she was quite the opposite. She was a hard hearted woman and had an obvious distaste for Maria. Why? I don't really know. I don't think Madame Love really knew either.

"Well? What are you waiting for? Continue!" Madame Love commanded.

As Maris continued her studies of something about the line of heirs for the Sloviacian throne, a door opened to the tutor room, it was not the main one but the servants door at the very east of the room (now remember that the very east side, it will be very important in the story a little later on).

"Lady Maria?"

"Yes?"

"Your parents have requested you join them in the library."

Maria's parents Lady Auclair and Lord Alessandro were part of the Mauragian nobel society. They weren't the most important but they were quite powerful.

Auclair Montere was known for her temper, her charm and her power. Alessandro Montere wasn't known for much, just that he was Lady Auclair's husband. They loved each other but they did not love their daughter. They were good people, just not good parents.

As the maid was leaving Madame Love asked "Girl. Tell me your name."

'She must be new if Madame Love doesn't know her.' Maria thought to herself.

"Carliss, Carliss Vandemere."

As Carliss Vandemere leaves the room she drops something that rolls to the east side of the room (yes even farther to the east) and leaves. If Madame Love or Maria noticed and picked up the small something Carliss had dropped this story would have gone very differently, I would never meet Maria Montere. But they didn't and Maria left to go to her parents in the library.

When Maria entered the library a huge room that was covered in shelves filled with books with a small sitting area in the middle with a small sofa, a coffee table and two large cushioned armchairs. In those two armchairs sat Auclair and Alessandro.

"How are your studies going Maria?" Auclair asked.

"They are going well. Madame Love is teaching me about the Sloviacian royal line.

"That's good."

What followed was an awkward silence broken only by the rain that fell softly on the roof. Maria had not noticed it was raining until then. It brought a sort of calm. A soft blanket of light sound to shield her. Unfortunately it didn't do a very good job.

"We're moving." Auclair states.

"Okay."

"Me and Alessandro are moving. You are going to stay with a friend of mine. They need help taking care of their new born child."

` 'Wait what?!' Now Maria may not be surrounded by the best people but she has everything she needs and wants. But working as a caretaker? No. There was no way she was going to do that.

"No. No! Absolutely not!"

"Don't speak back to your mother!" Alessandro barked. "Now go pack."

"Only one bag!" Auclair yelled behind her as she left.

Frustrated and very upset she left the library where Carliss was waiting for her to escort her back to her room.

"I heard what's going to happen. I'm sorry. I wish I could help."

In her head Maria knew that maid was lying. But she also knew she was being kind to her and she ate it up. She wanted that kindness.
