One step after the other James moved through the hallway always treading carefully.
He had already crossed nearly 30 meters of space and not bumped into anything. And ha was prepared to walk die however long he needed to, to find an exit.
Apruptly he paused. Was it just him or was the darkness in the tunnel a bit less dark? Inspecting the lightless ness Infront if him he shook his head. No, he still couldn't see anything.
Another step forward and Bang! His whole upper body was planted smack dead onto a wall just as he was preparing to swing his foot forward again.
Starteld James stumbled back. Not letting go of the wall he caught himself while nearly planting himself on his boney ass.
This was getting ridiculous. It was a if this labyrinth wanted to make him look like some sort of cartoon character.
First the unmovable door, then the abruptly ending wall and now this. Wtf was all of this.
If James had still had skin he was sure, his cheeks would have been flushed red right now. If not from anger then from embarrassement. Even if the chance of someone watching him was low he was still ashamed for walking straight into a wall.
"Well, anyways."
After collecting himself James slowly approached the wall again. One hand stretched out as he tiptoed forward.
There it was again. His hand touched the wall and the stone immediately lit up. Again, beautifully swing lines , that covered it surface lot up and, what was most likely a door bean moving away from him.
It was as if this whole complex didn't want to let him leave, but instead had planned to lead him somewhere from the moment he woke up in that sarcophagus. Maby the destination was this door. Maybe he would find his answeres here.
As the stone moved further away a faint disembodied light began shining into the corridor James was standing in. It seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere. It wasn't bright, but neither was it dark.
He let his eyes wander along the walls, that were now visible and his yaw fell. They were plastered with gold, engraved with beautiful patterns. He had been unable to clearly see the walls of the chamber he woke up in before, but he was sure it's decoration at least matched or even surpassed that, which now lay before his eyes.
Hy view was slowly drawn towards the now open passage Infront of him. he saw massive stone doors with symbols etched into it. In it center a massive 40 meters tall engraving of the sun god Ra could be seen.
Although he had visited many palaces, never had he seen such a magnificent piece, as the mere decoration of a door. It was just too wasteful.
Looking further there were alternating marble and gold tiles lining the floor. Furthermore giant colum lined what looked to be a giant hall. They stood there like the most orderly forest in perfect rows, stretching into the distance, with the end of the hall barely visible.
Thier hight on the other hand was unimaginable. They where at least 100 meters tall and at thier tops where magnificent curls. The cieling was endoned with drawings of Pharaos on carriages. Archers releasing thier arrows, coronations of grand scale and dlegations presenting opulent gifts.
His mouth still agape he took a step into the hall then another, while his eyes where darting around, trying to take in all of the magnificent cenery in front of him.
"What was this place seriously?" He wondered "Am I even on the same planet anymore? This is impossible! We...We would have long found this."
As he mumbled under his breath he turned to look at the center of the back wall of the hall. What stood there was a podium and on it a throne. Forged from silver and gold, embedded with emeralds it's magnificence stood uncontested in this stunning room.
As if calling for him the throne seemed to glow, radiating a feeling of longing. Subconsciously James started moving, walking at first, turned into running and lastly a mad dash. Jumping up the stairs James came to an aprupt halt Infront of the pedestule.
Sure of what to do he just stood there akwardly. Why was he here again? All his determination had vanished as he akwardly looked around, and right into the eyes of a skeleton.
James jumped back in fright. Had it always been there?
He quickly claimed himself down. "Look!" he said, "He's just like you." Laughing about his little awkward joke he sized up the sceleton.
Armor that might have been beautiful a long time ago clung to his body, while a most likely sill sword was hanging at his hip. On it's head there was a helmet, that was most likely meant to be some sort of artifact, although it had deteriorated almost to unrecognizability.
It's hands where presenting a roll of papyrus, which was Egyptian paper. Had it been waiting for someone? Had it been waiting for him?
Downy, as if to not wake the skeleton James took the papyrus from its boney hands, and, as if natural, sat down on the throne.
He unrolled the paper and began to read.
