Chapter 4 - Chapter Four

The drive to the packhouse was a bit nostalgic. It was Saturday morning so Jason should be here, it was only 8:45 am which meant pack training was still going on and would be for fifteen minutes. Only wolves between thirteen who were newly shifted and eighteen had training this time of the day which was usually between 5:00 am and 9:00 am. The rest of the pack went about their day until it was their group's turn to join the alpha, head warrior, and trainer on the training ground.

I pulled my car around the side of the house under a big maple tree. I had fifteen minutes before I could talk to Jason so I didn't bother getting out of the car. Instead, I plugged my phone into the car speakers and lower my seat so I could relax and wait. The first song that came on was "Myself" by Linken Park. Lying back in my seat I closed my eyes, with my hands behind my head while the music carried me.

There was a knock on my window and I opened my eyes to see people surrounding my car. I guess training was over. The windows were tinted and my seat was low so I doubt they were looking at me as much as they were looking at the car. It belonged to my dad and my mom gave it to me for my 16th birthday. I didn't want it at first.

For one, it was a Lamborghini, and two it was a bright cherry red Lamborghini, and most importantly this car was my dad's baby. He loved this car almost as much as he loved me and my mom. Mom and I use to give him hell for the way he treated it as if it was another member of the family. Since he was gone now I didn't want to risk damaging it. I've made some changes to it since then, one of which was changing the color. It was a now dark navy blue almost black with a red stripe along the sides to honor my dad.

I turned the keys in the ignition and the engine roared to life, catching everyone off guard and they backed away from my car. That's more like it. The last thing I need is for someone to starch it, as that would be a slow and painful death, and nobody wants that. I brought my seat back up into the seating position, and unplug my phone and stepped out, and locked the door before turning to the pack members. The guys were looking at my car with envy but once they saw me, the envy changed to suspicion and they became guarded.

My dad was the beta of this pack so rightfully so am I now that he's died. I was thirteen then and by pack laws, I won't be able to take his place as beta until I turn eighteen which is in a few weeks. Maddix was now acting beta, chosen by alpha Conner to be his beta until Jason takes over the pack. If I turn down the post as beta he gets to choose his own. The boys went back to admiring the car while keeping one eye on me so I turned to a group of girls giving me the stink eyes.

"Where can I find Jason?" My voice was anything but polite which caused them to narrow their eyes at me even more, but before anyone could answer, he, stepped out of the crowd with his arm around some girl.

"Here I am, what'd you want? "I thought I told you not to approach me, so what are you doing here?" He was really starting to get on my nerves.

"Are you telling me that I am no longer a part of the pack?" His jaw started to tic and his teeth clenched. I was challenging him and he couldn't do a damn thing about it. Even if he wanted to he couldn't touch me, his dad and mine were best friends. Not to mention, my mom was a powerful witch, she wasn't afraid to show it even surrounded by four hundred werewolves.

"No, I'm not."

"I need to speak with you in private and it can't wait, It won't take long and after that, we're done you won't ever have to deal with me again."

He stared at me without saying anything for long a while, I maintained eye contact with him. He wasn't alpha yet so he wasn't above me but I was still cautious and aware of the many eyes watching us. Eventually, he sighed and motioned for me to follow him into the packhouse. I didn't want to talk here, not where people could just listen in.

"Hey, not here" I called out to him.

I motioned with my head towards the woods and walked off in that direction not waiting for his response. I kept walking for about ten minutes with Jason following behind me. We stopped in a small clearing in the woods where I was satisfied we wouldn't be overheard, I turned to Jason and got straight to the point

"I want to know why you rejected me."

Jason

I laughed so hard, and then laugh some more, so much that my sides started hurting. When I finally got myself together and looked at her she was just standing there staring at me.

"You're joking right, that can't be what you made me come all this way for, right?"

"Right!!

"I want to know why you rejected me, Jason, we grew up together and were once friends before my dad died protecting yours.

"Use to Payton, not anymore. I've grown up and moved on to better things and why would I want to be mate with you of all people?" She visibly stiffened at my words. I must have hit a nerve.

"What do you mean me of all people?"

"I mean you're weak, which is a big disappointment to this pack considering that your dad was Beta, someone who died fulfilling his duty to the pack and all you could do to honor him was run away with your tail between your legs. "I'm going to be Alpha in a month and a half, I need a strong Luna that the pack can depend on not some weakling that tucks tail and abandoned her pack."

As if I would even accept her as my mate. "Yes, we used to be friends but that was a long time ago and I'm a different person now. The only person that would be happy about this mating would be my father and he will never find out." Why should I get stuck with her because her dad was his best friend and died protecting him? He's always felt guilty about that but that not my problem.

"Are we done here? I have things to do."

"You think I'm weak?" Now she was starting to piss me off

"Are you deaf? That's what I said, I want a Luna that is strong and will help lead my pack and not just run away, now your time is up and I have places to go and people to see."

She didn't offer anything else and I was bored with this conversation so I turned left. One minute I was walking and the next I was being lifted off the ground and send flying through the air into a tree with such force that it shattered. I fell to the ground blood spilled from my mouth and I defiantly cracked a few ribs. My senses were on instant alert and I jumped to my feet to face my attacker.

I was going to need backup because I couldn't see or sense anyone; it felt more like the wind had decided to become my enemy. They must be damn fast or invisible. Vampire!.

How the hell did a vampire get into our territory, and where the hell is the patrol team?

I called my wolf forward to speed up the healing process. I focused on my senses to pick up the scent and location of the intruder but I was only able to pick up Payton's scent. I tried to reach the pack over the pack link but no one answered. What the fuck, why the hell would the rest of the pack be blocked from me? I was looking around to see where Payton was and if she had a lock on whoever this was and almost had a heart attack.

She was floating above the ground, tunnels of wind circling her. She was glaring at me with a look that rivals the devil himself. The last time I checked, wolves can't float… Right?

She raised her hands and the earth started moving, it wrapped itself around my legs, trapping me in place and before long I was covered up to my neck. I started lifting off the ground and Payton started floating over to me, once we were face to face and she opened her mouth her voice made my blood run cold
