Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Red Death

In A Top-Secret Bunker- Somewhere In A Remote Part Of Gotham City

This bunker served as the hideout for a very dangerous organization of criminals, known as Red Death. They had connections to arms and drug dealers, assassins, and all sorts of other dangerous people. This organization was basically the leader in the criminal underworld, respected and feared by many. Few dared to challenge them, and even less managed to make it out of a fight with them alive.

But they haven't fought the Batman yet. Although, the problem was that they knew the Batsuit was vulnerable to Vibranium. Bruce did seal it against the mineral, but who knew what could happen. Anyway, Red Death developed a gun that could most likely neutralize the suit's Kevlar armor.

"We'll get you this time, Batman.", The leader growled.

Meanwhile At Viper Headquarters

Dozens of agents were on standby, waiting for something to happen.

They were monitoring bank alarms and other things. Red Death had well-trained members, who were excellent hand-to-hand combatants. Their members also had very advanced weapons and equipment. Commander Morgan had already tasked their Mechanical Research Department to start developing a hundred percent bulletproof combat suits and better weapons. The scientists should also develop a contingency if the thugs attacked with chemical weapons. Morgan knew they couldn't afford any mistakes, or Gotham would pay the price for it. He only hoped Batman was already working on catching these criminals as well.

At Wayne Enterprises

Bruce was currently in a meeting with the Board of Directors, discussing their recent nanobot project, known as NANO Supreme.

To say that being the CEO of his family's company as well as Batman was tough was an understatement, but Bruce knew he had to honor his parents and ensure that his father's legacy would live on. It was very bad that Lucius was dead because he could cover for him when he needed to use Wayne Enterprises' resources to build the various gadgets and weapons he would need as Batman.

"As you can see, Mr. Wayne, our recent advances in nanotechnology are tremendous. Thanks to our brand-new state of the art control program, the nanobots immediately respond to orders, which can be broadcasted to them via an electromagnetic impulse. This will lead to advancements in medicine, mechanics, and other aspects of everyday life.", One of the Board members explained, bringing up a holographic image of the nanobots.

Or, perhaps even combat, if you'll allow it of course. We could make a pretty big profit, should you decide to sell to the Military."

Bruce though about it for a few minutes, before coming to a decision.

"I'll allow it, but only if you can 100% guarantee, that nothing bad can happen. We have a very public image that must be maintained. But above all, we need to make sure the citizens of Gotham aren't harmed by this project. My father founded this company to help this city. When I took over as CEO of Wayne Enterprises, years following his tragic pacing, I vowed to honor my parents' legacy and turn this company into an empire. One dedicated to help the public. Gotham has been plagued by crime for years. And despite Batman doing everything in his power, we promised to contribute to saving this city to the best of our ability. I believe this meeting is over, seeing as I still have a lot of work to do.", He stated, standing up from his seat.

"Mr. Wayne, I'm sorry to interrupt, but remember to look over the files about the new software system for the Gotham High School.", His assistant explained, entering the conference room.

Bruce nodded, leaving the room, and stepping into the elevator.

In Bruce's Office-A Few Minutes Later

Sitting down at his desk, he accessed the files and began reading through them. Upon seeing the plans, Bruce smiled. It was in his blood to help people. Whether it was as Batman or his civilian persona.

A Few Hours Later

Bruce saved the file he was working on. Switching off the computer, he stood up and left the office, getting into the elevator and going down to the basement level.

After bidding farewell to the receptionist, the last living member of the Wayne Family left the building and got into his car, a McLaren P1 and drove home.

Upon arriving at Wayne Manor, Bruce parked his car in the garage and headed to his office. After typing in the access code, he got into the hidden elevator and went down to the Batcave.

Down In The Batcave

Exiting the elevator, Bruce walked over to the computer and accessed the file of a gadget. However, it wasn't any gadget, but a disruptor. Having found out that there's a weapon capable of penetrating the Batsuit's Kevlar armor, he decided to start building something, that could neutralize this problem for him.

It was essentially a projectile launcher, build into the suit's left gauntlet. But it's only used for that sole purpose, as there's another for simply launching projectiles to combat criminals. Both are activated by pressing different areas on the gauntlet.

Suddenly, the computer beeped, signaling that there was a 5031 in progress, which was an armed robbery. Bruce walked over to a wall and put his hand on a palm scanner, causing the wall to open and revealing his weapons arsenal, along with the Batsuit on a mannequin.

Putting it on, he pulled his mask on. Batman walked over to the platform the Batmobile was parked on. It was a 2025 Tryar GT 500. On the outside it looked like a completely normal car, but on the inside, it had tons of high-tech gadgets. Bruce thought it was the best way, since it would be effective and wouldn't raise suspicion. Getting in, Batman activated it.

Pushing the gearshift forward, he drove the car on the lit area, out of the Cave.

Upon exiting his secret hideout, Batman accelerated, heading towards the location. As he arrived, the Dark Knight could clearly see that the robbery had escalated into a car chase. The thugs vs the Viper units. Knowing that he most likely had better chances at catching them than Viper, Batman began tracking the criminals.

Turning left, he pushed the gearshift forward and slammed his foot on the gas pedal, as nitro shot out of the engine. A few thugs shot at the Batmobile with their guns, but the car's Dutronium armor plating just deflected all the shots. Pressing a button, Bruce watched as a missile launcher rose up from the front of the car. A targeting system appeared on the central console.

"Target locked.", The computer's AI voice sounded throughout the vehicle.

Bruce pressed a button, as the missiles fired, ´damaging the cars to the point of immobilization, but not doing any damage to the occupants. Switching the targeting array back to the tracking system, he continued the pursuit.

They appeared to be heading towards a secret location, most likely a bunker of some sort, located outside of the city.

At The Bunker

Putting the Batmobile on silent mode, Batman parked it behind a large rock and got out, firing his grappling hook at a column, and swinging onto the roof. Activating the night vision setting on his cowl, causing a pair of lenses to lower down over his eyes, the Dark Knight watched everything going on in the area.

Thanks to the HUD build into the cowl, every piece of important information was displayed before his eyes: The bunker's layout, all the heat signatures currently in the building, the entire defense system, from plasma cannons, rocket launchers and laser guided traps, to the most delicate alarm system; Along with every entry and exit point to the base. Batman smirked to himself. They were so done for. Although, such an efficient organization like Red Death wasn't known for making rookie mistakes. But Batman was defiantly not known for making them.

"Bruce, code Red. There are more members approaching the base. Looks like they're holding a meeting of some sort. No idea what the hell they are up to right now. Maybe when you infiltrate the base, make sure to steal some of their files. Anyways, be careful or your position could get compromised.", Batman heard the voice of Luke Fox, the son of his long-time ally, Lucius, inform him through the communicator.

"Copy, Luke. Where's Nightwing?", He questioned.

"Patrolling the south-west part of the city. Should I call him, or the others?", Luke asked, as Bruce quickly told him no.

"This is something I need to do alone. Dick is nearly as experienced as I am, but I still don't want him to face so dangerous opponents."

"I know you mean well, Bruce, but I forgot how stubborn you can be at times.", The Head of Wayne Research and Development remarked dryly. Batman grimaced at that.

After the members entered the bunker, Bruce climbed up a bit higher to be 100% out of sight and pulled out a cutting laser from his Utility Belt.

After cutting a large enough hole into the roof, he jumped in. Pulling out a smoke grenade from another pocket on the belt, he threw it down in front of two-armed Red Death members, causing them to cough and fall to the ground, unconscious.

Pulling up the schematics again with help from the HUD in his cowl, Batman searched them for the control room's location.

Suddenly, "Warning" flashed across his Heads-Up Display, causing the Dark Knight to narrow his eyes in confusion. That confusion faded as soon as it had come however, as he noticed ten armed men in body armor and masks walk down the corridor. Looking frantically for an escape route, he noticed the ventilation shaft and quickly climbed into it. Upon exiting it, Bruce found out, thanks to the schematics, that he was only a few feet from the control room. Entering the room, after hacking the lock, he found just what he's been looking for: The buildings main computer, which hopefully had the information, he needed on its hard drive.

Upon accessing the system, his suspicion was confirmed, as a bunch of files and Bank data appeared.

Batman narrowed his eyes again. The computer showed that 95 000 000$ had been transferred from a private bank account with the account number 56734 to the account of a city official named Marcus Andrew. The account number was 4733.

"We'll not only are these criminals going to Blackgate for a long time, but Mr. Andrew will also spend quite a few years behind bars. In addition, he can definitely say goodbye to his job.", Batman thought to himself.

Back In The Batcave-An Hour Later

Bruce was sitting at the Batcomputer, working on a new project.

It was a new suit of armor, to help him fight opponents, physically far more powerful than himself. For example, Bane when he's powered by Venom. Also, he'd sealed the Batsuit against Vibranium, but the gun needed to be destroyed regardless.

The suit was called the Bat Thunder. It had Dutronium steel armor plating, also making it very light. In addition, the suit had guns built into the gauntlets, along with rocket launchers and combat blades, for melee combat. The armor also had rocket boosters built into the legs and back, to allow it to fly. It was heat and cold resistant.

And its power source was a mini Ion Reactor, built into the lower chest area.

Pressing a button on the computer's keyboard, a platform slid away, and the suit rose up. Pulling a joystick, Bruce watched as robot arms picked up various thruster and weapon parts, attaching and welding them to the skeleton of the suit. He grabbed a few wires and got on a platform, which brought him to eye to eye level with the robot. Pressing a button on a tablet, Bruce watched as the panel on the chest slid away, revealing a lot of unfinished wiring and the Ion Reactor. He carefully put all the wires in, wiring them in and welding everything into place. It was ready.

The suit opened and Bruce got into the cockpit.

He pressed a button and the screens activated, the cockpit closing and the engines activating. The eyes on the mask lit up. There were cameras built into the eyes, able to spot things from very far distances.

"Bat Thunder: Online.", The computer announced.

Bruce tried to move the arms, and it worked. Same for the legs. Then he tried the weapons. In terms of weapons, the armor had machine guns, missile launchers and shoulder cannons. The suit also had a reinforced heatshield. Along with lasers, in case of an encounter with Freeze and his Cryo Gauntlets. It also had a very advanced software, which was difficult to hack into.

"You won't be able to freeze me in this, Freeze. I'm prepared for you.", Bruce smirked. After testing the weapons, he tried the armor's flight capabilities, which worked perfectly. He got out of the suit.

Suddenly, the Batcomputer beeped, showing a map of Gotham City.

There was a break in at the Mechanical Research Department of Gotham City Research Systems.

It was Red Death; they stole components for an Ion Cannon.

The problem was that if any form of resistance presented itself, they could destroy the whole city.

Bruce decided to use the new robot.

He climbed into the cockpit, activating the robot, and leaving the Cave. Upon arrival at the lab, he could see that all hell's broken lose.

Batman was about to help when he was suddenly tackled to the ground by another robot.

t started shooting at him, prompting Batman to raise his left arm to block the shots. Seeing that it had no effect, the android activated a blade in its right arm, as Bruce did the same and the two clashed.

After a few minutes of clashing their weapons together, both retracted them and started wrestling around. However, Batman's mech suit was clearly stronger and more advanced, as he punched the robot to the ground and fired an EMP blast from his arm, causing the robot to shut down and fall to the ground, as Batman ripped it apart without breaking a sweat.

Seeing a few Viper units arrive in black vans and SUV's, he thought everything was under control and it was time to go. Pressing a button on the console to his left, Bruce felt the armor take off.

Back In The Batcave_A Few Minutes Later

Upon arrival, he got out of the armor and took off the Batsuit.

Bruce let out a sigh and walked towards the workout area.

He did two-hundred pushups. Then practiced his hand- to-hand combat with the punching bag. After that, he practiced on the salmon ladder. After working out, Bruce took a shower.

As he finished, he heard the elevator open and saw a beautiful young woman around 37 years old in a blue dress, with long brown hair and green eyes. A soft, yet stunning smile was on her face, which caused Bruce to smile as well.

This was his girlfriend, Jessica Adams. They'd been dating for four years now.

There were a bunch of newspaper articles about their relationship.

For example: Bruce Wayne And His Girlfriend At Vender- Is Gotham's Billionaire Playboy Dating?

Billionaire Bruce Wayne-CEO Of Wayne Enterprises Has A Girlfriend

They found it somewhat funny, but it was also pretty annoying that the Gotham Media couldn't leave them alone. Of course, Jessica had also become a very prominent person, due to dating the CEO of Gotham's biggest and most famous technology conglomerate. As such, she also accompanied Bruce to press conferences and charity events that were held to introduce Wayne Enterprises most recent technological breakthrough or for gathering money to fond charity projects on a regular basis.

She walked over and they kissed. After Bruce switched off the Batcomputer and the lights, the two entered the elevator and went up to the master bedroom on the 99th level.

I n The Master Bedroom

The couple kissed each other passionately. Jessica smiled and allowed Bruce to kiss her neck, as he took off her dress. She had it on because she knew he loved it. He then unhooked her bra and took it off, before gently cupping her breasts, making her gasp in satisfaction. Bruce also undressed, before lifting his girlfriend into his arms and walking to the bed. They got on it and kissed again, becoming one.

The Next Morning At Wayne Enterprises

There was a press conference being held at Wayne Enterprises, to introduce the new nano technology, they'd been working on for the past three months. Security guards were at the exits and left and right of the podium. Bruce was at the podium, with Jessica standing next to him, wearing a dark blue dress and a diamond bracelet.

She had a smile on her face. Members of the Mechanical Research Division were standing in the back, with Luke Fox standing in front of them. He looked exhausted, but also proud.

Bruce started speaking.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, members of the press. When I took over as CEO of Wayne Enterprises, I swore to protect this city, by whatever means necessary. Batman may be there to protect us from various dangerous criminals, but we must make sure to protect ourselves in everyday life. That is our objective, here at this company.

Me and my staff work tirelessly, 24/7 to ensure Gotham City's protection and advancement. Our research in various scientific fields, like physics, chemistry, and mechanics, allowed us to create advanced technology, which by far surpasses 21st Century technology. In spirit of that, it is my honor and privilege to present to you the latest product in our research of nano technology, NANO Supreme. These nanobots are operated by the most advanced control program, imaginable, developed by my excellently efficient IT team. This project will bring about advancements in medicine and biology, in addition to various other aspects of everyday life.", He announced, as everyone cheered and clapped.

Cameras flashed, as the reporters started asking questions.

"Mr. Wayne is this project 100% safe?", A reporter questioned.

"I can assure you, I wouldn't have authorized it, had I not been certain that its completely harmless.", Bruce replied.

"Mr. Wayne, do you have any plans of selling this nanotechnology to the US Military, or another Military Force? In other words, conduct international business?", Another reporter questioned.

"One of my Board members had indeed suggested this course of action. He had augmented, how such deals would be very beneficial for Wayne Enterprises, and I agree, to some extent. However, my top priority and that of the company, is the continued safety of the citizens of Gotham City. As such, should it become clear that the nanobots are too dangerous to use in warfare, I will order the project to be shut down immediately. No further questions.", He declared.

"None. Thank you for your time, Mr. Wayne.", The reporter thanked him.

"It was my pleasure.", Bruce smiled, as Jessica kissed him, causing the crowd to cheer.

It was over. Batman had saved the city once again and Wayne Enterprises had developed something, which would greatly benefit Gotham's citizens for years to come. In other words, Bruce Wayne was a hero with or without the mask.
