If someone were to ask the average person a question about the armors used back in the medieval period, they would probably answer with information they obtained from shows, documentaries, or any other form of media, or not answer at all.
The historical accuracy of these shows were sometimes put to the test, and more often than not, they would not be true to how it really was in real life.
As for why this related to the current situation, one only needed to take a good look at Baldurai's back before they noticed a glaring flaw in the Stone Demon's armor.
"There's small gaps in his armor that allow for movement." John thought as he closed in on Baldurai.
Back in the medieval ages, metallic armors were designed to allow minimal movement in exchange for outstanding defense. But it was never truly possible to create a fully sealed armor, as that would prevent the wearer from moving or performing the tasks required of them during battle.
John could now see the many holes that plagued Baldurai's defenseless back. Squinting his eyes tighter, he thought he noticed soft, moving flesh underneath the armor.
"That's our key, Dignitas." The protagonist said to his earpiece.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. Here we go, John."
The first set of footholds were sent forward by the author, from which John began ascending at a steady pace.
They came every few seconds, and as such he had to balance between moving quick enough to not be noticed by Baldurai and not moving ahead of the speed Dignitas was capable of producing the footholds.
But as Fate would have it, the two weren't in the clear yet. In the corner of his eye, Baldurai noticed John rapidly ascending above him on what seemed like… little blocks.
It then occurred to him. Did they figure out his weakness? If they did, were they now aiming for it?
Erichtonerich seemed unrelenting in his attacks, on the other hand. In an effort to hide John from Baldurai's sight, he made sure to focus his attacks on his face.
But it seemed that it wasn't enough. The Stone Demon eventually noticed what Dignitas and John were planning, and was quick to act so that he wouldn't be hurt.
"Oh no, you don't! Cease your struggle, humans!" He shouted as he began to pick up the very ground beneath him.
With his innate strength, Baldurai needed to spare no effort in taking a small chunk of the ground in his hands and creating a boulder from said chunk.
Bringing the boulder behind him, the demon threw it at John, who was completely focused on not falling.
It was only when the boulder began affecting the mana around it did John notice he was screwed.
And he would've been, had they not had a reliable Lunalite in their team. A split second before the boulder made impact, John caught sight of a bluish trident below his feet.
Silently thanking Eva in his mind, he dropped down, before hanging onto the trident with one hand. Whoosh! The boulder flew over where he was just a second ago, before crashing into the house of an unaware Mislokurian.
Evangeline's assistance allowed Dignitas to have enough time to draw more footholds than he used to. The author sent his newly created structures out in John's direction, stopping right below his feet.
"Thanks, Dignitas, Eva! I've got this." John shouted to his teammates, who replied with a no-look thumbs up and a silent nod respectively.
Half a minute later of constant running and dodging and replicating the same fail-safe maneuver whenever things turned dicey, John was able to parkour through the air until he was directly above Baldurai.
Finally, his descent began as he willingly leapt off the last foothold Dignitas drew. Powered by Mana Maxima and a recently reactivated Chronos Interval, John felt no fear.
"Do you think you will win this just because you have spotted my weakness, human? You think wrong!"
The Stone Demon was perfectly ready for John, too. Erichtonerich's power was weakening, until he eventually could not single handedly keep Baldurai down anymore.
In response to John, he raised his arms to the skies and fired an endless stream of earth bullets, each armed to the teeth with a surprising amount of Devil Ashra that it practically spilled out into the air.
Chronos Interval immediately activated its effect the moment the bullets closed in. In Dignitas' and Evangeline's eyes, John's body rapidly shifted to and from places where the bullets would not hit him.
Each time he did, his mirage was left behind for a split second, creating the illusion of there being more than thirty Johns falling simultaneously.
Even Baldurai could not figure out which one was real. Each of the clones somehow managed to retain the same mana signature as the original body. They possessed no difference from each and every other John.
And so he halted his fire. He was right. The moment the swordsman wasn't being shot at, all of the other twenty-nine Johns disappeared almost instantaneously, and the real one was revealed.
John could easily Blink away from his unfavorable position at any time, Dignitas thought. And yet he didn't. That move he did back when they first sparred was clearly not one that required a great deal of effort to utilize.
That was when Dignitas felt the immense Light Affinity signature gathering towards John's sword!
It was practically blinding to the eyes. An endless wave of light was streaming into the blade, and emitting an intense radiance. Just the sight of it threatened to permanently blind Dignitas' eyes.
"How… that shouldn't be Excalibur… and yet something tells me its close to it."
John allowed gravity to increase his momentum and the strength of his blow. He succumbed to its powerful grasp and used it to amplify the power of his sword.
"Let's see you get through this, human! You will not pierce the toughest of the Stone Demon's barrier!"
Just then, Dignitas and Evangeline noticed an almost igloo-shaped structure begin to rise around Baldurai. He was willing to bet that his defense could take on what possibly was John's strongest attack.
"He won't make it, Eva. We need to do something."
The rate at which the barrier would form was faster, and by the time John made it to ground level, it would've thoroughly reinforced itself. The two of them had to act fast.
But there was still a chance. Baldurai wasn't looking at them, but rather, John. In his hurry to create a barrier, he didn't pay attention to the other two. His back was turned, allowing Dignitas to see the holes in his legs, chest, arms and neck.
"I can't hit him from here, even with Reality Construction. Say, Eva. Can your trident be held by someone who isn't bonded to it?"
"Umm… it should be. Here." Evangeline immediately understood what Dignitas meant. If she were to do it, her strength most likely wouldn't be enough.
But maybe, just maybe, he could.
Trusting him completely, the Lunalite manifested her trident in her arms, and handed it to Dignitas. Thankfully, it worked, and its seemingly ethereal body could be held even by him.
"Stand back, Eva. I've never once before tried javelin-throwing, or in this case, trident-throwing, but let's just hope this works."
Bringing his dominant arm behind him, Dignitas took a few deep breaths. He focused entirely on how he would throw the weapon he was holding.
He didn't rely on Death's Vision. Baldurai was practically standing still. All he needed was good precision, and all the strength he could muster.
"Here we… GO!"
His arm moved instantly, and with it, the trident too. Whoosh! It flew through the air akin to one of Lorelai's arrows, straight and true.
There was nothing else he could do now. Dignitas and Evangeline merely watched as the trident traveled the distance in the blink of an eye, before piercing the large, unprotected area of Baldurai's armor.
Only one of the three blades managed to hit him, but that was good enough for Dignitas. It halted his chanting for a second, giving John some much needed time.
"Argh!"
The force of the blow sent Baldurai kneeling on one knee, and subsequently opening up the spot on his neck for John's attack.
"Take this, demon! We banish you to Hellscape!"
"NOOO!!!"
In the next second, John stabbed his sword through the open gap in the back of Baldurai's neck. A great pillar of light descended the moment his sword made contact with his open flesh, smiting the Stone Demon.
