The more vampire things I do, the vampire I become. It's been a week since I left the
pack. I haven't changed into my wolf once. The more I stay in my human form, ignoring my
wolf, the paler my skin gets until I, too, am paper white. My fangs become sharper, my legs
faster.
AB, Ash, and Ace taught me how to hunt better. We have drunk deer, birds, and any little
tree animals you could think of. I once loved all the animals and enjoyed watching them. I now hunt them, they are my prey. We never slept because vampires don't need sleep. We mainly hunt and just hunt some more. We race through the forest and goof around. Being a vampire is way less stressful than being a wolf.
We discovered elves. They are tiny creatures and kind of look like a mini alien. They
have long, pointy ears, are a brownish color, and they don't wear clothes. They speak quietly and were friendly. AB made a deal with them, too; they were on our side during a fight. We also found fairies; they were tiny like mosquitoes and too small to speak with. They flew happily around our faces.
We came across some zombies, but we didn't kill them. AB said it was the "dog's job,"
talking about the wolves. Wolves are called dogs, vampires, bloodsuckers, and zombies, brain eaters. It is clear neither group likes the other.
Now as I sit on a boulder by the fire. Ash sits next to me with his arm around me. He is
probably my closest friend, not because he is my creature, but because we have a lot in common.
He likes the woods, hiking, and hunting. All vampires like hunting, but Ash says he enjoys the sport of it. He also enjoys fishing, does it a lot at the river, and then lets the fish go.
"Once all the zombies are wiped out, we will be next," says Ace.
"There will always be zombies, they just have to make their way to Sandy Shores,"
replies AB.
"We took them out easily," I add.
"I am getting thirsty," announces Ace.
"Let's go find something to drink, crew." AB gets up from his rock.
Heading toward the woods, I hear the an owl hoot, and for the first time, hope for his
safety because I am a predator. The most savage one in the world at that. We only walk a short way before my ears hear several footsteps, which might belong to a herd. Maybe a pack of something.
Perturbation runs through me, and my heart nearly stops when I see a mother and four
baby bears. The clan won't show these babies any mercy. Grabbing Ash's arms, my eyes plead with him.
"Leave the babies and mom be; there's plenty of other food, AB," Ash speaks.
"Really young blood is the best." Ace licks.
"Really, Ash?" AB frowns in displeasure.
"Not in front of the lady." Ash crosses his arms over his chest.
"Fine, but there goes an appetizing dinner," AB grumbles.
"We will find other delicious animals," Ash assures him.
We walk deeper into the forest, and there are four bobcats, huge ones at that. Leaping
towards one, I strike, knocking one bobcat onto the ground. We wrestle for a moment; he growls and yelps in pain. I bite his neck, ripping out his throat, taking his life quickly so he didn't suffer.
After killing him, I drink his blood. Ash kills first, and then consumes as well. But the others
Don't put them out of their misery. They drink their blood while alive, killing them slowly.
After my fest, I think, What would Chetan think watching me kill this beautiful cat? The
bobcat's blood all over my face. I can't ever let him see me like this. The beast, the horrible
monster I've become. A day hasn't gone by that I don't think of my pack. I miss them so much.
my sister, my mate, and Alpha. I am where I belong with monsters like myself.
AB is like an Alpha of a pack. He is in charge of the clan. He isn't as protective as Ajay
but does like to know where we are going. His most important rule is that besides animals, wearen't allowed to attack other species without his approval.
It seems like he wants to live in peace at Sandy Shores, but the part that terrifies me is he
is willing to attack humans outside of Sandy Shores. I will never do that, and I don't think Ashwill either. As for AB and Ace, they are brutal breasts.
We finally make it back to our hangout, and the night sky still amazes me. Looking up at
the night sky, I wonder if the packs are sitting by the fire and if Chetan sees the same stars.
Feeling a tear on my face, I realize I am crying. My heart wants my pack and my mate. Every time I close my eyes, I see Chetan's face.
"You okay, doll," whispers Ash, placing his hand on my leg.
"I miss my mate," I confess.
"I understand. You can always go back and visit."
"That would be too hard. I don't want him to see who I have become."
"You've became a pretty kick-ass vampire. I want to show you something, doll," he
declares, taking my hand in his.
He leads me to a pond with lily pads and jumping frogs everywhere. There is a log sitting
directly in front of the pond. He sits down first, and I next to him. He smiles and puts his arm around my shoulders, pulling me against his body.
"Zare, I know what you are dealing with. You're not a monster."
"I feel like one."
"A monster wouldn't have cared about those baby bears."
"It feels like I am two different people: Zare, the wolf, and Zare, the vampire. One of
them loves animals, and the other eats them."
"Animals are better than humans."
"I know."
"AB and Ace are vicious monsters, not my beautiful Zare."
A smile spreads across my face. I am happy Ash is in the clan. He is sweet and not just a
vampire; there is a soul left.
"Look at the lovebirds," says Ace with a chuckle.
"Oh whatever." Laughs Ash rolling his eyes.
"I got you a gift, my sweet." AB hands me a baby bobcat.
"Awww, what happened to his mother?" I stroke the animal's soft fur.
"Don't know. We might have eaten the bobcat mother today," Ace chuckles, coldly.
Looking down at the ground, I felt ashamed of myself.
"Oh!" I gasp.
"Zare, all that matters is the baby has you now," says Ash, lifting my chain with his
hands.
"Yeah, and he is a stupid cat," AB grunts. "He walked right up to me, rubbing his head
against my leg. I was going to drink his blood, but it didn't seem fair. So, I give him to you, my dear."
"Thanks, and you're never going to hurt him, no matter how big he gets?" I eye AB
warily.
"Nope, knock yourself out," he says.
The other two walk away, laughing and talking.
"Maybe AB does still have a heart," I mutter.
"Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it." Ash laughs.
Snuggling with the cat, he falls asleep in my arms. He is so sweet, such a baby. He
doesn't have a mom, and that is because of us. We are monsters. I was to be a monster forever, for all of eternity.
Soon it is night time, and Sandy Shores is utterly dark. Hearing howls in the night, I
know the pack is nearby. The others probably couldn't hear the howling like me. I am still
connected to the pack. When Ajay howls, it sets off the wolf inside of me. She wants to come out, and run with her pack. She wants Chetan's touch. It takes everything in me to change back. I want to run and find them so bad. I can never be Zare the Wolf, because the vampire side dominates me. The thirst will always control my life; I will never want anything more than blood.
My little cat cries; he starts opening and closing his mouth.
"I think he is hungry," I comment.
"Just pop out your boob," says Ace. "
"I don't have any milk, idiot."
AB laughs so hard, he nearly falls over. "I will head to the store outside of Sandy
Shores."
I don't have time to answer, as Ace and AB are gone in a flash. Ash and I pet the cat,
calming him down.
"He needs her actual mother," I mutter.
"He has you, he'll be fine." Ash flashes me his sweet smile.
It isn't long before AB and Ace are back. They have blood all over their face and hands.
That's not animal blood. "What did you do?"
"We just had a little snack," remarks Ace.
Remembering the kind girl from the shop, my heart nearly sinks.
"Who?" My fists clench at my side as my body shakes with anger.
"Just some girl who works in the shop, she was nobody important," says AB.
"She was kind and friendly to me, and just look, how I repaid her."
Finally, I change into my wolf form. She is vigorous and enormous. Letting out a tremendous growl so loud, it sends the birds and fairies flying from the trees.
"Ash control your wolfpire!" yells AB.
My feet run as fast as they can away from the clan. That girl was kind to me, and I failed
to protect her. The animals, the girl, their blood is on my hands. I am a beast.
I run until daylight. Overthinking and hating myself is becoming a routine task.
Swallowing hard, I make it back to the clan.
"Wow, you finally return, wolfie," says AB with a grin.
"You okay?" Ash embraces me. "I was worried you weren't coming back." He brushes
the hair from my face.
"I just need some time," I explain.
"It's okay. I am sorry, I didn't know you were acquainted," claims AB. He does seem
remorseful.
"If it helps, we killed her quickly. She barely saw us coming," laughs Ace.
Looking down, I feel sick to my stomach.
"I am sure she doesn't want the details," says AB.
"But I do." Ajay walks upon us with the rest of the pack.
