Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Fall of Imhotep

After the explosion and things were starting to get calm, Rick and Jonathan immediately went to get the golden book.

While they were struggling to pry open the secret compartment of the statue of Horus, I was looking at the now caved-in entrance that we had made it through a moment ago.

"Deimos! A little help?" Rick said as he and Jonathan had made no progress whatsoever in getting the compartment open.

"We kind of need the muscle power here." Jonathan said, backing up Rick.

"Oh right. My bad, sorry." I said as I walked towards them and read the inscriptions on the base of the statue.

The hieroglyphs inscribed said that we would only be able to open it up through the key.

Unfortunately for us, we did not have the key at all so that left us with one other option.

My brute strength.

I gripped onto the protrusions of the base that stuck out and yanked at it with mild strength.

No progress, which was very surprising to me.

"Hehe, it didn't come out." I said as I turned to look at everyone with an embarrassed look on my face.

"Pull with more force." Ardeth said.

I grabbed a hold of the protrusion once again and this time used all my strength.

This time, the base of the statue started to shake a little and slowly but surely I could feel the breakage of the lock mechanism inside.

POP

Not being ready at all from that abrupt opening, I was basically launched back a couple feet.

"Guys, I got it!" I said as I held the compartment cover while I laid on my back.

"Well done." Jonathan said as he helped me up.

As we were about to take out the chest from the compartment, Ardeth spotted the shadows of another group of rotting mummies coming down from the passageway, heading right for us.

"These guys just don't quit, do they?" Rick said as he opened up the chest.

He took out a heavy burlap bag from the chest and steadily took out the solid gold book of the living.

"The book of Amun Ra." Jonathan said as he and Rick exchanged a look of excitement and stared at the book in wonder.

"Guys, big problem." I said trying to get them out of their stupor and pointed at the seemingly endless group of mummies that made their way out of the rubble free passageway.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

Ardeth started to blast all the mummies to smithereens and soon his gun ran empty.

He turned to look at all of us and said, "Save the girl, kill the creature!" and quickly took the shotgun as a club and ran into the horde of mummies.

"Will do boss!" I said not having any worry since he somehow makes it out alive as proven by his appearance in the end of the movie along with the sequel.

I grabbed on to the book and a stick of dynamite and similarly struck the string on Rick's stubble to ignite it.

I tossed the dynamite towards one of the walls that had a few cracks in it and was letting out a draft of air and we all hit the deck.

Well, all except Ardeth.

KABOOM

After that explosion, I grabbed on to Rick and Jonathan, who had the golden book, and went through the hole that the explosion left in the wall.

RITUAL ROOM

Imhotep was reading from the Book of the Dead. The rotten mummified priests surrounded the altar and were rocking back and forth while chanting all while Evelyn was struggling to break free from her binds as she was prepared to be sacrificed for the resurrection of Anck Su Namun.

Suddenly, a strange mist wafts from a small pool and over to the canopic jars.

It passes through them and over to Evelyn.

The mist pauses and looks over at Evelyn, seemingly approving of her and goes over to Anck Su Namun's mummified remains.

The chanting priest, swirling pool, wafting mist and Imhotep's reading reaches a crescendo and Anck Su Namun's crusty eyelids suddenly pop open.

Then her body turns over to look at Evelyn with empty eye sockets and watches as Imhotep prepares to stab her with an ancient sacrificial knife.

"With your death, Anck Su Namun shall live, and I will be invincible!" Imhotep said in ancient Egyptian as he raised the knife over Eveyln's chest, about to plunge it down as Evelyn's eyes widened in horror.

For a moment, everything that could go wrong, was about to go wrong.

But that changed when Jonathan's voice rang out in the room.

"The Book of Amun Ra! I found it, Evy! I found it!" Jonathan shouted out as he excitedly held up the golden book.

"Shut up and get me off of here, Jonathan!" Evelyn said.

BACK TO DEIMOS

Quite surprising how Jonathan reached Evelyn faster than me and Rick but this movie was all surprises in general.

As we reached where Jonathan was, he was jumping up and down like an infant girl with the golden book above his head, Rick and I saw the scene of Evelyn laying on the altar next to another mummified body.

I then saw Imhotep with what seemed to look like a sacrificial knife in his hand and getting ready to stab Evelyn.

"Just on the nick of time, eh?" I said as I pointed at the scene and turned to Rick.

"Seems so." Rick said as he grabbed a sword from one of the statues surrounding the room.

"Open the book, Jonathan! Open the book! That's the only way to kill him!" Evelyn screamed out as she seemed absolutely freaked out with a withered and rotting mummy mere inches away from her. "You have to find the inscription in the book!"

"I can't open it! It's locked or something!" Jonathan said as he hurried examined the book in his hands.

Finding something familiar in the book, he remembered and yelled at Evelyn, "We need the key, Evy!"

"It's inside his robes!" Evelyn said as Imhotep put the knife away and walked towards Jonathan, not noticing me or Rick.

As Jonathan turned tail and ran back to escape Imhotep's clutches, Rick jumped into the middle of the group of chanting mummies and freed one of Evelyn's bindings.

Imhotep, now noticing what was going on, gave a command to the mummies to stop and attack Rick.

Rick continued in hacking and slashing the mummies and I got to say, he was damn good at it as well, all while freeing Evelyn's bindings one by one.

Just then, Jonathan ran back into the ritual room with a small platoon of armored mummies that held shields, spears and swords.

"Oh this just keeps getting better and better!" Rick said as he and Evelyn slowly took a few steps back from the mummified soldiers.

"Do something, Jonathan!" Evelyn told her brother.

"You've got to be joking, Evy!" Jonathan said with disbelief as he had no way of hurting any of them.

"Finish the inscription on the cover, idiot!" Evelyn screamed out.

"Oh." Jonathan said and quickly began translating the rest of the inscription.

At this moment, Anck Su Namun's corpse started to attack Evelyn to which she tried her best to fend off, dodging every sword swing that Anck Su Namun threw at her.

Noticing that his mummified girlfriend was helping him, Imhotep commanded the guards in ancient Egyptian and told them to attack Rick.

I guess right about now is when I should make my legendary appearance.

Though, I could've revealed myself earlier, it wouldn't have been as dramatic.

Right when three of the soldiers of the platoon jumped towards Rick and intimidated him through their shrieks, I slammed my fist into one of them at breakneck speeds.

"Now you show up!" Rick yelled at me as he tried to run away from the two soldiers that were chasing him.

"Haha! Sorry!" I said as I roughly took my fist out of the now caved in soldier's face.

Honestly speaking, I was expecting its head to be blown clean off, but apparently these guys' bones were much more sturdy and rigid compared to normal human bones.

'Thank you for the strength training Eve. Much appreciated.' I mentally told her since if I was a tad bit weaker, I'd probably stand no chance against these types of mummies.

{Your appreciation is appreciated! :3 }

From then, I started to chase the soldiers that were chasing after Rick.

From anyone's point of view, it would kinda look funny to see a handsome guy like myself chasing some uglies who were also chasing another less handsome guy.

Don't call me a narcissist for that self-proclamation, them's just the facts.

"I can't figure out this last symbol!" Jonathan yelled out from who knows where.

"What does it look like!" Evelyn said as she was still trying to fend off from Anck Su Namun.

"It's a bird. A stork!" Jonathan said as he was flapping his arms trying to imitate the symbol.

Evelyn, busying herself from not dying, couldn't respond so I took the liberty as I started to pummel each and every soldier that got in front of me.

"It's Ahmenophus!" I yelled out for Jonathan to hear.

"Ah, yes, I see!"

"Hootash Im Ahmenophus!" Jonathan said towards a group of soldiers that were just about to turn Rick into a human skewer.

The soldiers then turned away and awaited their next command from the holder of the Book of Amun Ra: Jonathan.

"Tell them to attack Anck Su Namun!" I told Jonathan who quickly said it in ancient Egyptian and commanded the soldiers.

Torn between the Book of Amun Ra and saving Anck Su Namun, Imhotep couldn't do anything but watch as the soldiers mercilessly shanked and stabbed at Anck Su Namun's already dead corpse.

In a rageful state, Imhotep walked towards Jonathan and lifted him up by the throat against the wall.

"Now you die!" Imhotep said in ancient Egyptian.

Before he could choke out Jonathan, Rick sliced his one arm that held Jonathan clean off.

Not feeling any pain, Imhotep turned around, grabbed a hold of Rick and tossed him away.

As Imhotep was walking towards Rick, who was now in pain on the ground, to finish the job, I stopped Imhotep in his path.

Wanting to scare him in his own language, I simply said to him in a threateningly but teasing manner, "Me and you. Let's finish our match up."

Before I could fight him though, I looked towards Jonathan and told him, "Don't make him mortal just yet. I want to fight him as he is right now."

Now since that's taken care of, I can fight without him getting weaker.

Call me battle hungry or something, but I was just wanting to see where my strength lay compared to him.

Certainly, I was of course stronger than him now and had absolutely no worries, but I still wanted to see where I stood.

I saw the shock and fear overtake Imhotep as he began throwing punches at random towards me to which I was unfazed by.

Simply dodging them through my superhuman reflexes and Water Kata, I swiftly evaded each and every attack that was thrown at me.

Simultaneously, I began throwing some of my own punches as well, though toned down a bit since I wanted to prolong the battle.

Even though my punches were held back a little, it still left fistmarked sized contusions on his body which was in the place of rotted flesh compared to the rest of his body.

From then on, I began hitting him with a progressive amount of strength.

Each punch being added by more and more strength until I didn't hold back anymore.

By now, I think I was caught in the zone, since I had no idea how many punches I landed on him to the point where he was already on the ground being less and less recognizable after every punch.

I never considered myself a violent person before I transmigrated, but right now, I let loose.

All the frustrations from my past life and from the deaths that I allowed to happen from the start of this movie began to cloud my mind whenever I punched out at Imhotep.

As of right now, I wasn't that far off with being a sadist that enjoyed physically hurting others.

{...Deimos…Deimos!…DEIMOS!!}

Eve's voice was barely audible until I heard her screaming voice in my head. That knocked me off my stupor and I just realized that I had lost my cool for a bit there.

{Thank God you're back! I think you should be done now. Otherwise, you might have caused a cave in.}

'Oh. Sorry about that. Thanks for bringing me back.' I mentally told her and finally looked down to Imhotep who I had been pummeling.

On the ground I saw what could only be the furthest away from what a person should look like.

A mess of grounded up body parts that were mashed to a meat paste.

No blood was shed but his shriveled up internal organs were pounded to basically powder and his rotted flesh was turned to a squelched mess.

Getting up from the mess, I saw that I was standing in a nicely sized crater.

I guess I now knew where I stood in this world's food chain.

Taking a calm and collected deep breath I got up from the crater and what welcomed me at the top were the absolute fear and flabbergasted expressions of everyone that saw what had unfolded.

"You alright there, Deimos?" Rick said as he had already composed himself from the earlier beating that the soldiers and Imhotep had given him.

"Yeah, thanks for asking. I'm good now." I told him.

"Almost thought we lost you for a second there. Now you're 100% positive that you are fine now?" Evelyn said to me as she walked up to the crater and peeked down to see the mess of Imhotep.

"Yes, Evelyn. I am fine now." I flashed one of my smiles that immediately got her blushing.

"Personally, I felt that you were possessed for a second there. Unfortunately, I'm no exorcist." Jonathan said, heaving a sigh of relief now seeing that I was back to normal.

"No worries at all. Now, you guys wanna read from the book or shall I?" I said as I patted my clothes down from the dust.

"You were quite busy there. I'll read it." Evelyn said as she took the key that Jonathan had taken from Imhotep earlier when he held him up by the neck.

Jonathan, you sly fox.

Evelyn inserted the key in the book's golden cover and turned it counter-clockwise.

An audible clasp and click was heard and the book's locks all opened up at once.

She turned to the page of the book that turned the dead back to mortals and read the inscription: "Kadeesh Mal! Kadeesh Mal! Pared Oos! Pared Oos!"

After she finished the inscription, a horse whip was heard in the ritual room.

From the entrance way, a ghostly horse chariot traveled down the staircase and stopped in front of the pool.

From what I can remember from the movie, since Imhotep wasn't how he looked like right now, the chariot should've just passed right through him and taken out his immortal soul and replaced it with his mortal one.

And from there Rick should've stabbed him and that should've ended his reign of terror for now.

Though what was happening now was a bit different.

The chariot stopped in front of the pool and the charioteer came down and walked until he stopped in front of me.

He was dressed in ancient Egyptian royalty clothing and the typical facial makeup that royalty wore.

He took a moment to observe me and looked past my shoulder to see the state of Imhotep.

Conjuring up his own magic, the ghostly charioteer took his body that was a mess and placed it in front of us.

From there, he healed Imhotep to how he was previously and before Imhotep could do anything else, the charioteer took out his immortal soul.

He walked back up to his horse drawn chariot and before he disappeared, he looked back at me and gave me a nod.

That was...an experience? Why did he nod at me?

Anyways, the only thing left to do now was to finally take care of Imhotep once and for all.

I signaled Rick to hand me the sword to which I was going to use to finally kill Imhotep but before I could, the job had already taken care of itself.

Imhotep had taken a sword from one of the soldiers that I had defeated and plunged it into himself.

Was I really that scary?!

...

On second thought, maybe I was.

Imhotep then plunged into the pool where his true appearance of a mummy shone and was dragged back to hell.

Before he submerged completely, he said in ancient Egyptian, "Death is only the beginning."

This signifies that he would come back one way or another.

Before we could all take a collective sigh of relief and finally relax a bit, the ceiling of the whole room started lowering itself suddenly.

"Damn. Must be your friend." I said with a big sigh as I turned to Rick.

"Ugh. Beni." Rick said as he did the same.

We all ran to get out of the tomb which was now rigged to seal itself once again.

As I took the lead and was followed by Rick, Evelyn and Jonathan, all in that order, Jonathan, who was carrying the Book of Amun Ra, slipped and dropped the book which slid into a crevice.

Evelyn, who turned around at the sound of the book falling, saw it all unfold and couldn't believe her eyes.

"You've lost the book! Jonathan, I can't believe-" Evelyn said as she went back and looked down the crevice.

"C'mon!" "Let's go!" Both Jonathan and Rick said as they went back and grabbed ahold of Evelyn.

At this point the ceiling was so low that we had no choice but to start crouch-running and eventually we entered the treasure room that we had been in earlier.

Jonathan this time, skidded to a stop and took a moment to admire all the gold that could've made us all billionaires.

But what could we do at this point?

"But, couldn't we just-" Jonathan was about to say before Rick interrupted him with a loud "NO" and grabbed him to keep running.

Soon after, I found the entrance way to the tomb that was thankfully not being crushed from the ceiling and motioned for everyone to get in.

"Over here!" I said as I slid into the doorway and held out my hand for them to grab.

One by one everyone made it through, but unsurprisingly, Beni had followed us from further back.

Beni kept shouting, "Wait! Wait!" to which I also held out my hand for him to grab.

Though he was a terrible person and was blinded by greed, I still wanted to help him out since it would be kind of inhumane to leave him here. Even though I knew of his fate in this movie.

The ceiling was too low and he couldn't get to my hand in time.

Right then the ceiling sealed up the treasure room completely and Beni was completely shut off from us.

"Goodbye, Beni." Rick said.

Soon we saw daylight peeking through the entrance and we finally made it out.

Though we couldn't stop for comfort since the whole damn place on the surface was also falling apart.

"Quick to the entrance!" I quickly told them to which we hauled ass and ran.

As we ran, the herd of camels that were stationed here from the American group were also running out alongside us.

I quickly took Evelyn and basically tossed her onto one of them and proceeded to do the same with Rick and Jonathan.

After a short while, we finally made it a safe distance away from everything and looked back and saw the spectacle that appeared before our very eyes.

The whole of Hamunaptra was basically a massive cloud of sand and dust that was being jetted out into the air. It all looked like a volcanic eruption but instead of lava and ash spurting out, it was sand.

As we looked at the destruction before our very eyes, I saw Ardeth chilling on a camel not being noticed by anyone but me.

Our eyes met and he signaled me to be quiet as he was going to prank Jonathan.

He quickly put his hand on Jonathan's shoulder and scared the living daylights out of him.

AHHHH AHHHH AHHHH

All three of them screamed to which I just started to uncontrollably laugh while pointing at them.

"OH! Thank you! Thank you very much!" Jonathan said very sarcastically as he held his chest as he had a mini heart attack from that.

"You have earned the respect and gratitude of me and my people." Ardeth said as he expressed his sincerity.

"Yes, well. It was nothing." Jonathan spoke for us at this moment.

"May Allah smile upon you always." Ardeth said before he took off.

"And yourself!" Jonathan yelled at his disappearing figure.

"He's just gonna leave us here?" Jonathan realized just now as he turned to look back at what was supposed to be Hamunaptra.

"Well, I guess we'll go back empty handed again?" He said with disappointment in his face.

"I wouldn't say that." Rick said as he looked in to Evelyn's eyes.

"Oh, God." "Please, no." Both me and Jonathan recoil in cringe as we turned away from their lovey dovey moment.

"Hey, Jon. Check this out." I told Jonathan as I pointed out to a satchel on one of the camels that was full of gold from the treasure room to the point of almost spilling out.

"YES!" Jonathan's excitement broke the kiss that Evelyn and Rick were exchanging and he hurriedly observed every single piece of gold there.

"Wait!" Jonathan told everyone that shocked even me. Apparently this matter was more important than the treasures in front of him.

"What happens to you, Deimos? Surely, you'd want to come back with us. At this point, you feel too close for us to be mere acquaintances." Jonathan said with an expectant look on his face.

"Hmmm. I wonder what's next for me. I did say to you guys when we first met that I wanted to see if the city existed and to find the vast amount of treasure that was in it. Since we've found that...I've nothing to do now."

"You're of course very welcome to join us. I believe you'd have plenty to do if you do so." Jonathan said to which both Rick and Evelyn also agreed.

"I will-"

(A/N: I know some of you may be wondering that his stats look a little different than in the beginning. I decided to make agility, speed and dexterity all under one category and that was DEX which stood for dexterity. I hope it'll refrain from making you guys confused. Also to those who dislike the quest thing and have the fear of the penalty, next chapter may solve that issue. ALSO, please vote in the comments whether you want him to stay in this franchise until completion or head to another movie. I'll try my best to incorporate Deimos to either or.)
