Chapter 20 - The Competition Starts

The day of the competition had finally arrived, and the campus was abuzz with excitement. The Advanced Mages had been preparing for this moment for months, and now it was finally time to put their skills to the test.

The morning air was crisp and cool, but the sun was shining bright in the clear blue sky. The campus was filled with the sound of students rushing to and fro, their nerves tingling with anticipation.

As they made their way to the competition grounds, Levi and Mark could feel the adrenaline pumping through their veins. They had been waiting for this moment for so long, and now it was finally here.

The competition was being held in a large open field, surrounded by tall trees and rolling hills. Dozens of representatives from various magical organizations had gathered to watch the Advanced Mages compete, each hoping to find talented individuals to join their ranks.

As the Advanced Mages took their places on the field, the referee stepped forward to address the crowd.

"Good morning, everyone!" he called out, his voice booming across the field. "Welcome to the Advanced Mage Competition!"

The crowd cheered and clapped, their excitement palpable.

"I am your referee for today's event," the referee continued. "And I will be guiding you through the challenges that await you."

The Advanced Mages listened attentively, eager to hear what the referee had to say.

"As you know, representatives from various magical organizations have gathered here today," the referee continued. "And they will be closely observing your performances, looking for individuals who possess the skills and abilities they need for their respective organizations."

The students nodded, understanding the importance of this competition and what was at stake.

"Now, nothing beats a fighting match to introduce your skill, so without further ado, let's call the first pair," the referee declared, gesturing to the two mages who would be competing first.

Jameson was one of the Advanced Mages who stood on the field, his posture proud and confident. He had always believed himself to be the best mage in the academy, and he was determined to prove it today.

His opponent, on the other hand, was much less confident. Her name was Emma, and she was known for being shy and reserved. She had always been a talented mage, but she lacked the bravado and self-assurance that Jameson possessed.

As the two competitors faced each other, Emma couldn't help but feel intimidated by Jameson's arrogant demeanor. She knew that he was a skilled mage, but she also knew that he tended to underestimate his opponents, believing himself to be unbeatable.

Emma took a deep breath and tried to focus on her own abilities. She had spent countless hours practicing her spells and perfecting her technique, and she knew that she was capable of holding her own against Jameson if she remained calm and focused.

As the referee signaled for the start of the match, Emma and Jameson circled each other, their wands at the ready. Jameson wore a smug expression on his face, confident that he would emerge victorious without breaking a sweat.

Seeing Emma, Jameson could not help but mock her. "What are you doing here, little girl? Don't you know that you're out of your league?" he sneered.

Emma did not respond. She knew that Jameson was trying to rattle her with his words, and she refused to give him the satisfaction.

Instead, Emma took a deep breath and focused on her breathing. She reminded herself of the countless hours she had spent practicing her spells and perfecting her technique. She knew that she was capable of holding her own against Jameson if she remained calm and focused.

Without warning, Jameson launched his attack, "Do you think you can defeat me? How naive. Take this attack, Flame Vortex!"

A burst of flames erupted from the end of Jameson's wand, forming a swirling vortex of fire that headed straight for Emma. She quickly raised her wand, preparing to counter the attack with her own spells.

As the two spells collided, there was a loud explosion, and the ground shook beneath their feet. Emma's eyes widened in surprise. Jameson's attack was powerful, much more so than she had expected.

Jameson smirked as he saw Emma struggle to keep up with his attacks. "Is that all you've got?" he taunted. "I thought you might put up more of a fight."

Emma gritted her teeth, refusing to be intimidated by Jameson's words. She focused her energy and launched her own attack, a burst of icy wind that swept toward Jameson with force.

But Jameson was quick to react. With a flick of his wand, he deflected the attack, sending it back towards Emma. She managed to dodge it in time, but it was clear that Jameson was a formidable opponent.

With each passing moment, Emma felt the weight of Jameson's arrogance and superiority bearing down on her. He was not just a skilled mage, but a cruel one, who took pleasure in belittling his opponents.

But Emma refused to give up. She continued to fight with all her might, dodging Jameson's attacks and launching her own spells whenever she could. She was determined to prove to him and to herself that she was not to be underestimated.

As the match wore on, the crowd watched in amazement as Emma held her own against Jameson, a feat that few had managed before. They could see the determination in her eyes, the grit and strength that she possessed despite Jameson's cruel words.

However, Jameson was not about to let Emma have the upper hand for long. He decided it was time to end the match once and for all.

With a flick of his wand, Jameson summoned a ball of fire from the ground, which he hurled toward Emma with incredible speed. Emma tried to dodge it, but the ball of fire was too fast, and it collided with her, knocking her off her feet.

As Emma lay on the ground, dazed and disoriented, Jameson approached her, a smirk on his face. "Finally decided to finish it with my spell," he said, mocking her. "I must say, you put up quite a fight, but it's time for you to admit defeat."

Emma struggled to get back up, but her body felt heavy and weak. She knew that Jameson was right, that she had been defeated.
