"Sense."
I felt the timer appear in my mind and smiled. Sense was next, and it was time to grind. Unlike constitution, the difficulty of growing this attribute wouldn't be pain, but of how unusual it was compared to some of the others. The start was the hardest or so the book I'd read had said. You had to let go of existing limits on your mind and yourself. In my world, many had theories and beliefs that such things did exist while others simply said it was tricks of the mind or could be explained scientifically. Maybe it could, but humans on Earth didn't know everything yet.
I had to let go of those limitations, and connect to something that back on Earth I would have called psychic nonsense, but here it was very real.
The training hall was always fairly busy as people trained to increase their attributes. I walked over to the door which led to the sense training area. I'd managed to borrow a book from the library after making a system oath to return it before I left. I wondered why systems oaths weren't used for everything, but apparently, the greater the oath, the larger of a burden it had so while it was used, it wasn't for everything and only when it was a must or other options wouldn't work out well.
The moment I passed through the door, all sound vanished. I was in a hallway and there were rooms on either side. I walked passed them until I found an empty room. There was a light that indicated whether or not it was in use. Blue meant no, green meat yes, and red meant out of order.
I entered and found myself in an odd-looking room. It was plain like the room I'd appeared in after I'd died, however, there was a mat at the center, and a tablet next to it. I walked over, and took a seat, picking up the tablet. It was similar to others I'd seen, and after pressing a rune, the walls changed. Parts of the wall moved outwards, forming blocks, rectangles, and other shapes. It took a few seconds for me to realize why.
When I did, I sat down in a meditative pose and closed my eyes. This part was the hardest as I had to empty my mind of thoughts. Now, the fact is that when you try and push a thought away sometimes the opposite happens, but I knew how to thanks to the book. I stopped actively thinking, and let thoughts come and go. Slowly but surely my mind grew quieter and quieter until only the occipital thoughts floated up.
Then I focused on my surroundings, trying to sense the blocks in the wall. At first, absolutely nothing happened, but over time, I felt something. It was very faint and felt odd. It didn't feel like sensing something, but more like knowing it. Like information just appearing. I was so surprised that I was broken from my mediation.
I sighed, glancing around. I pressed the rune of the tablet again and the shapes melted back into the wall, then reappeared in a different pattern. This time I was more focused and the feeling returned, which wasn't the right way to say it. I wasn't feeling anything. It was more like I knew; like a mental image was forming. It was not a very good mental image, and I couldn't get much from it, but it was there.
I opened my eyes and realized this was going to be boring, but I still got back to work.
Hours passed as I simply tried to reach out, letting go of every part of me that said this was idiocy and ridiculous. The sense I had of the room proved it wrong, however. It's odd as after a while you become disconnected from everything when you meditate, but with this, there was still that part of me forming a mental image of the room. As time passed things became clearer, and eventually, I was able to sense something clearly. To my left was a small rectangle, not too far from me, and I reached out… I felt my hand touch it and froze.
I was broken from my meditation by the rush of excitement and though I felt like cursing, I was also happy this was working. It was odd as a part of me kept saying that it wasn't there like it was denying it, but another part was a hundred percent certain it was there. It had been the old me clashing with the new me.
I opened up my stats and smiled.

It was only two points, but I'd take it. It had been hard, and my sense had been low so I wasn't too surprised. Getting to 10 wouldn't be so hard, but after that, I'd have to push things. This method could probably take me to 10 or maybe not. The only way to find out was to do it. So, I got back to meditating, and as time passed things became clearer and clearer. I knew in a combat situation, this wouldn't help a lot. I couldn't mediate or even focus like this at the snap of my fingers, and with the chaos, noise, smells, and pain, it would be hard. The book said meditation always helped, but you also needed more.
I didn't know how much time had passed by the time I stopped, but I was pleased to see my sense had grown by another two points to six. In the end, I'd been able to get a nice image of the room, although I wasn't ready to start walking around it with my eyes close. That was for tomorrow.
I left and ended up seeing Rashid on the way out.
"Oh, hey, Jerry." He glanced at where I'd come from, raising an eyebrow. "Sense?"
I nodded. "Yeah, and you're still going at strength I see."
"Always," he replied. "Strenght is my second highest after constitution."
"Really? I guessed it would have been something like endurance."
He nodded. "That's important, but so is strength, and my orc blood gave me a headstart." He set down his dumbbells and took a breath. "If you want help on sense, find Lex. His sense is at twenty, he can help you."
"Where is he?"
"He's usually at Karra's or the brothel," Rahisd said with a sigh. "The one past the market but before the guild. You might have seen it. It has that big red sign."
"I know the one," I said. I'd guessed what it was, but it wasn't a surprise. Even back on Earth, selling sex was still common in some places, and in some countries escorts, which was just a more polite word, were legal with websites dedicated to the business. Personally, I didn't care much about it. I was neither for nor against it. I had never paid for sex and never planned to, but I could understand why someone would.
