Chapter 16 - The Landlord's Ring

The neighbor's savage curses suddenly stopped as he was brought into the guest bedroom which was the most terrifying area of the homicidal house.

In the house where Han Fei lived, there were two bedrooms. The darkest of rooms was locked and it was the guestroom. Han Fei had previously attempted his sleeping tasks in the main bedroom.

A massive live being had suddenly disappeared before his eyes. Han Fei would be lying if he claimed that he wasn't very terrified. Now, he is quite grateful that he met his enthusiastic neighbor to assist him in dealing with the ghosts in the house.

If the neighbor from the sixth floor hadn't come to the door, the person who would have been dragged deep into the guest bedroom might have been himself.

"Why would the monster drag the neighbor into that bedroom? What is hidden in that room?" Han Fei has not been to that locked guest bedroom, but he has a great advantage as a player in the game. His advantage is that he can control his curiosity, not see what he should not see, and not go where he should not go.

The screams of the neighbors eventually faded. Han Fei examined the large set of keys he was holding. He quietly considered the possibility of moving into the neighbor's house, "I'll make another attempt to see if I can get into the bedroom once the monster "gege" has cooled down. It would be nice if I could locate the neighbor's key."

With the newbie task successfully completed, Han Fei was confident that he could now exit the game at any moment.

He swept the space momentarily before sitting down and checking his attribute panel at the main door.

"Player No. 0000, please pay attention! Each time you level up, you will get one free attribute point, and you can choose a career after level ten!"

"Player No. 0000, please pay attention! The G - Grade newbie task of watching TV has been completed! Free skill points plus one, receive the task reward - landlord's ring."

"The task reward will be highlighted in the item bar now that the item bar feature has been unlocked."

Han Fei was a little disappointed when he read the notification after completing the task. Despite taking a big risk to finish it, the mission reward didn't seem satisfactory.

Han Fei first clicked on the item bar and took out the landlord's ring.

"Landlord's ring (Beginner's Level scarlet item): After the landlord's death, the family members who loved him dearly made a ring from his ashes. This loving thought became a bridge between life and death. Wear this ring to feel their presence."

"Their presence?" Looking at the item description, Han Fei probably figured the hint out, "As long as you wear this ring, you can see ghosts?"

That chilly sensation grows stronger as I approach the guest bedroom of this murder house.

"This ring can warn! The greater the chill emanating from the ring, the more dangerous the ghosts and monsters would be."

"It doesn't look like a satisfactory reward, but it's actually quite useful! As long as I wear this ring, I can avoid many dangerous areas and creatures."

When Han Fei searched for information about The perfect life, he found no mention of scarlet items, so he wasn't sure what the concept of scarlet items was.

After studying the bonus items, Han Fei looked at the free skill points and free attribute points he had obtained.

"I now have one free skill point and one free attribute point. However, the only two skills I have been acting and cooking, neither of which are helpful during an encounter with a ghost!"

After thinking for a moment, Han Fei used his skill points on acting skills. In this ghost-infested netherworld game, acting skills might sometimes play an unexpected role, like when he faced Xin Fu just now.

"Player No. 0000, your acting skill level is now on level 2. When the acting skill reaches medium level 10, it will automatically advance to masterful acting skill."

"Although the beginner missions are the easiest ones and offer typical prizes, skill advancement is still extremely challenging."

Han Fei made the decision to initially focus on perfecting his acting abilities since, after all, he wanted to hide his identity as a living person and assimilate into the family here as quickly as possible.

When it came to the final four attribute points, Han Fei did not give them any thought and just added them to his physical strength. His physical strength at the time was only 4, which was extremely low. He just got split apart when dealing with the ghosts inside his house. He was almost caught by the sixth-floor neighbor running after him.

"This is only just a little amount added, in the future, when I level up, I could truly be able to run faster than a ghost!" Han Fei said as he waved his fist a few times after receiving the stamina boost. He was clearly feeling stronger and his motions were more fluid.

Han Fei was in a much better mood after spending three hours completing the task, fulfilling the game restrictions for quitting the game, and he was now in the frame of mind to really play the game.

Han Fei did not worry about the monster lurking in the homicidal house when he picked up the kitchen knife that was on the ground; instead, he was prepared to see the Granny Meng Shi on the third level first.

"The granny and chenchen themselves are not bad people. Only if I can help Granny and Chenchen to open their hearts to me..... then I will be able to help them overcome their wounds and solve the mystery."

Now that he understands the game better, he realizes that while other healing games only work to treat the player, this is the only game that also wants to heal the NPC, making it a really unique "conscience" game.

As soon as Han Fei opened the front door and stepped outside the home, his ring finger started to send a strong chill. It was obvious that the corridor was dirty and that a danger existed.

"You are sure to bump into several ghosts in this place even if you just casually want to go out to pick up a takeaway, right?"

Han Fei carefully walked with the kitchen knife into the hallway after deciding that the chilly emanating from the finger was not that strong.

The granny's home is on the third floor, one story below where he resides, yet he dared not be reckless despite the fact that they are just one floor apart.

The strange thing was that the sound-activated lights on the sixth level were turning on despite the fact that there was no activity in the corridor, which would have been completely silent.

When Han Fei reached the junction of the fourth and third floors while silently making his way downward, he stopped in his tracks.

Han Fei slowly squatted down and peered upstairs through the space between the railing and the staircase. The sound-controlled lights on the sixth story were still strangely on.

"Is there someone on the sixth floor or is it unoccupied?"

Han Fei started to move his feet in the direction of the third floor when the chill emanating from the ring suddenly became more intense.

"What's the situation?"

Han Fei was not running away since he had the option to quit the game at any point. He walked down the stairs till he noticed the door of the house opposite the Granny Meng Shi was open.

Broken shards of the protective magical mirror were scattered on the ground, and the door frame was covered with cracks. The talismans and the charm papers on the door have been ripped off as well.

"Are the Granny Meng Shi taking precautions by shutting their doors tight because of the neighbor next door?"

Han Fei resolutely halted at Granny Meng Shi 's door, he hadn't even knocked yet, and the ring finger immediately came a bone-chilling Yin cold!

When he jerked his head, he noticed a toddler in the next room giggling and running towards him!

In the blink of an eye, the youngster rushed from the rear of the room to the entrance, making Han Fei's nerves throb with tension. Han Fei just had no time to think further and decided to stop playing the game.

The world before him got covered in blood. The nerve connection was disconnected, and when Han Fei could regain control of his body, he took off the game headset as soon as he could.

His body droops pathetically on the bed while Han Fei's hands were still shaking uncontrollably. He took a lot of cold water and finally said, "This game is truly crazy. I've been cautious enough, but if I didn't have that ring right now, I'm scared something would definitely happen to me."

NOTE:

Just to avoid any confusion in the future, here the landlord is the old man who sold the game to Han Fei. Landlord is not Wei Youfu. This whole apartment complex is owned by the old man and he is the building manager.
