It was already midnight when Yao Dingxiang came back home. He was drunk because he didn't get the promotion that he deserved. After five years of working hard as a pharmaceutical scientist at the MERC lab, the position as head of their current project was still possessed by the person he hated the most, Qin Weiqi, his junior.
Even though he has already worked there for a long time, his boss has always turned a blind eye on him because he was scared that he would outclass him.

He gritted his teeth.
His eyes fell near the trash bin. The only light that supported him was from a single pylon in the middle of an alley. 'Shit!, what's that?' he thought. His vision was still blurry from the alcohol. He fastened his walk so he will be able to go home.
Ten feet away from the trash bin, he heard some little growls as if it was asking for his help. He stopped for a few seconds to clarify what he heard.
Silence.
Two steps, and it growls again. This time, it's a little bit louder than before. like there is something wrong or it is in pain! He walked slowly in that direction out of curiosity.
He picked up a small stick before he proceeded, just in case something would attack him. He was nervous that he could hear his own pulse.
He jumped out of shock.
His phone rang.
"Tss..." he whispered and ended the call.
He turned around and decided to leave. However, his attention was diverted by the blood on the floor. He traced it and saw that it was directed in the opposite direction from where he planned to go.
He goes back and stops.
His heart shrank. It is a dog lying at the side of the street, near the trash bin. It was covered in blood!
For a moment, he forgot that he was drunk. Without hesitation, he checked the dog to see if it was still alive. It was still breathing. The dog opened its eyes and growled, as if it were scared of him. He keeps his distance as he thinks that we cannot predict what would happen if he were to suddenly come near it. Little by little, the dog seems comfortable in his presence.
He patted it. The dog trembled, but the good thing is that it did not bite him. They stayed in that position for a long time.
Unexpectedly, Yao Dingxiang got shocked by the rusty sound of a motor that went past him. Due to his sudden move, the dog triggered its defense, causing him to bite him. Thanks to his reflexes, the dog was not able to. He doesn't even realize it until he feels the pain in his hand! Although it was not a bite but a scratch, it still stings.
