Meanwhile, at the Laboratory, Carter examined the New DNA samples comparing them with another specimen to get a similar match. Waiting for the centrifuge machine to separate the particles, he paced the room wiping away the beaded sweat which formed around his forehead. As the machine slowed down he brought out sample plates placing the separated molecules into them. He placed the specimen on the DNA sample and it read a perfect match. He froze. It couldn't be possible he thought. Trembling, he started the process all over again because if this was a mistake he could lose his job for announcing fake news and steering fear.
After an hour the results were ready, he tested them again and they read positive the spatula in his hands fell to the ground. This was terrible news. The fur specimens which they had collected near the boundary just tested positive for that of an actual Werewolf. This meant that they had entered Ponderosa.
He wiped his face vigorously breathing heavily. He had to call Frida and warn her about this because he knew she would be out hunting. He had to give her a heads-up of what to expect. Rummaging through his cupboard frantically he got out his cell phone to dial her, it rang but no one answered. He called again but this time the line went dead. He packed the files and test samples, leaving the room in a rush. Bane entered the room and enquired why the sudden rush, 'Carter what is the problem why do you look like you just saw a ghost, he asked calmly.
Carter looked at him and almost screamed catching himself he mumbled, 'The test samples are a match Bane, they are a Match'.
'What do you mean by a match?', Bane asked shaking Carter to his senses.
'The fur samples are a match' he said in a squeaky voice
'WHAT!' Bane was wide-eyed now.
Carter left the room leaving Bane in his shock.
Carter kept trying frantically to reach Frida but to no avail. He drove like a maniac to the forum to see if Frida was there, but as he arrived he saw all the members of the council apart from Frida. " Where's Frida?" He asked. A member of the council replied," She stormed out when she couldn't see reason with us".
"That girl is so hot-headed, trying to incite panic into the village when there is no concrete evidence to back up the claims, I mean how are you even supposed to verify the credibility of whoever sighted the werewolves?" One of the members said.
"This is what happens when they give women too much power, they start to believe that they are always right", The oldest member of the forum mumbled.
Carter was getting frustrated with these people, he couldn't believe these were the so-called respected members of the council. Now he understood why Frida was always upset after meeting with them.
"SHUT UP," He yelled "Frida was right, the wolves have already crossed the boundary and are currently in Ponderosa while you're all here sitting on your high horses and sipping tea", His outburst got the attention of everyone in the council and the leader asked," How did you come about this information?"
"My team and I tested the fur we found at the boundary of the village and it is one hundred percent werewolf," Carter answered.
This news paled the faces of the members of the forum. The head of the forum took charge and started giving out orders, 'We need to increase border patrols and probably enact a curfew'.
While they were discussing the security measures to take, Carter left to check for Frida at home; she wasn't there as well, so he called Vilda, he couldn't believe he didn't think of that in the beginning.
When Vilda picked up her phone, he asked if she was with Frida. Vilda sensing the panic in his voice asked what was wrong. Carter informed her of the werewolf development and how he's been unable to reach Frida since then.
Vilda replied, "Alright stay where you are, I'll be there in five minutes then we'll check for her in the woods and at the boundary. She's probably just out hunting so don't worry, besides she's Frida so nothing can happen to her,' Vilda comforted Carter.
After Frida finished training with Vilda they parted ways, Frida decided to take a walk in the forest while Vilda headed home. She was so furious at the council, she couldn't believe they weren't taking the situation seriously. Werewolves were dangerous vile creatures and the sooner everyone understood that the safer they would all be. The council may decide to fold their arms but she wouldn't rest until every single werewolf has been slain. She was so lost in thoughts that she didn't notice Polo creeping up on her.
"And who has upset my beautiful Frida?" Frida was startled as she didn't notice him creep up on her. She instantly berated herself in her head for not being alert and focused on her surroundings. "Not now Polo, I'm not in the mood," Frida sighed tiredly. Polo has been her friend since they were little before he developed a crush on her which she obviously didn't reciprocate and he decided to be a creep about it. She has always felt uncomfortable being in his presence because of the way he leers at her.
Before Polo could utter another word, Frida started walking deeper into the forest. Polo yelled, "Be safe my darling Frida, I will always love you". Frida shook her head tiredly, it was always the same with Polo. As Frida wandered deep into the forest, something felt off , her instincts screamed danger even though she couldn't see anything. Her whole body was alert as she gripped her bow and arrow in one hand and her handgun filled with silver bullets.
Suddenly she heard growls in the air and looking around she saw wolves coming out from behind the large trees in the forest. She was surrounded by about ten wolves so she decided to drop her bow and arrows because the wolves were at a close range. Pulling out one of her silver blades, she threw it and it struck true embedded in the skull of one werewolf instantly killing him. The wolves were enraged by this and advanced toward her with the sole intent of killing her. She fired her handgun in rapid succession and was able to kill four of the wolves before the gun was knocked out of her hands. She took to her heels trying to maintain some distance between them but that plan didn't work as the werewolves descended on her. She used every skill she knew; kicking, punching, and other martial arts but in the end no matter how strong and extraordinary she was, she was still one human and she was soon overwhelmed. One of the wolves gripped her neck and started choking her.
Frida thought it was the end but she wasn't scared she knew she had killed most of the wolves. Out of the ten that attacked her only three remained and that was a remarkable feat. Just when she was about to black out the last werewolf who had been observing since the beginning leaped forward and decapitated the wolf that held her. Frida could only stare in shock as the wolf stared at her and nodded before running into the woods leaving her and the remaining werewolf, As the last werewolf charged towards her she gripped her silver arrow ready to stab the wolf but that wasn't needed as a single shot rang through the air.
Frida watched as the werewolf dropped dead, checking to see where the shot had come from, she smiled as she saw her best friends, Vilda and Carter. Carter rushed towards her and kissed her before checking her for injuries. Vilda came up and hugged her tightly whispering in her hair, "We were so worried about you." Carter laughed mockingly and said, "What happened to she's Frida nothing can happen to her?"
"I was just saying that to make you feel better." Vilda mumbled.
As they helped Frida out of the forest, she complained of how the council thought she was being paranoid.
"Don't worry about that babe I've already informed them of the werewolf threat and they're taking action".
"How were you able to convince them?" Frida asked.
"The fur we tested showed that it belonged to a werewolf and that was why I was so worried about you, by the way where's your phone because I must have called a hundred times but you didn't pick up", Carter told her.
"Oh I left my phone at home because I forgot to charge it I'm so sorry"
As the conversation carried on, Frida could barely focus, she kept thinking about the wolf that saved her. It was mind-boggling because it went against everything she believed about werewolves. 'Are you alright? You keep zoning out' Carter said.
"Maybe she has a concussion," Vilda replied.
"I'm fine stop worrying about me" but as they got into the car, the wolf with amber-colored eyes kept running through her mind.
Because no one wanted to do anything about the sightings at the boundary, Frida had to take matters into her own hands. But first of all, she had to visit a friend who would be willing to help– Her name was Vanessa.
