Chapter 134 - Cherry Lollipop

Alice slipped a cherry lollipop into her mouth that she got from Noah randomly, scrapping the wrapper into her small skirt pocket It probably wouldn't have made a difference if it wasn't there because it was so tiny. Claudia was sitting next to her with her legs spread out in the gymnasium with her arms propped up behind her.

They were watching the spectacle in front of them with amused laughs since the float for the festival was brought out once again with Madeline hounding everyone to do their job which always seemed to bring the worst out of her in the moment, and it made Alice crack up at the dramatic switch up.

She was playing with the wrapper in her hand when she suddenly shoved it down Noah's pocket who was sitting to her right. He grasped her wrist before she could do any more damage. Alice burst into laughter when he ripped the plastic wrapper out and tried to shove it into her skirt pocket from before.

"What are you even doing?" he questioned after they wrestled for a moment.

"Okay, I give up," Alice said as she pulled away.

He was sitting down with them to catch a break since everyone was already tired. Their float-building time only started an hour ago. The weather was nice outside, so having people all jammed into the gym while the sunshine was warm made everyone feel as though they were living zombies.

Noah was doing a lot better after he came back to school, and there was the silent change that she eventually came to get used to since they were never on the level of comfortability that they were at now. He was doing better, so she didn't need to worry about his condition since he was acting normal.

Despite that, when they were in class together, she could feel his eyes on her. Drilling into her back, it made her aware of her skin causing the slight goosebumps to rise on her arms. She was doing the same to him, but she tried her best to keep her eyes trained out the windows because if not, she could watch him all day.

Madeline zoned her eyes over to them. "If you guys have enough time to sit down, I think that you guys have enough time to find a way to help out."

Alice lifted her hands innocently just as Noah zipped her pocket shut. "We're doing our best."

Claudia coughed to cover her snicker. "Just taking a small break."

Sophie peered over from the other side of the float. "The sequins are going to be the bane of my existence."

Jack rolled his eyes. "Who's brilliant idea was the sequins?"

Madeline crossed her arms. "Don't ask. Do."

Madeline's response made everyone laugh, and Jack muttered under his breath, "Tyrant."

Alice could hold her laughter. "You guys are bad."

Noah finally strolled over to the circle of guys who were asking for his opinion on the random characters they drew, arguing over which style was better fit for the float, and Alice had to admit that the cartoonish characters that spanned from action-looking people to cute animals were all fun.

Claudia got up and extended a hand to Alice. "Let's do our five minutes for the day."

"I heard that!" Madeline called over her shoulder.

She and Claudia rounded the corner of the float to help Sophie on the shiny adventure. They had hot glue guns, and they slowly made their way around the base of the float making a wavy pattern in an ombre effect in a pastel blue to a baby pink. Alice did the pink color after Sophie handed it over to her.

They worked while listening to the rest of the classmate's banter which made everyone crack up in laughter once more. With days like these, it made the sunshine shining through the windows a little brighter.

Alice breathed out another soft laugh after making eye contact with Noah's silent help me with all the guys hooting at him.

The guys switched topics so fast that she was having trouble following. When she looked over at Noah, she had no idea what they were even talking about. Alice sent him a small smile enough so he could detect it without others seeing. Noah discreetly dipped his head in a nod, and it made her curious. She didn't press it though.

Alice wondered what was said to illicit such a reaction, but she shrugged to herself as she continued placing sequins on the outline that Lainey drew. It wasn't straight, rather crooked to be honest, but Alice was making due with what she got.

The other girls in that pocket of people didn't have such a good attitude whenever their class get-togethers. Alice supposed that it would be too much to ask the girls to stop being mean for a day.

They did their part by contributing. Albeit, it may be a little, at least they did their job to pass. Alice didn't let her eyes linger over there, because they might see it as a friendly invitation of a judgmental battle. It was not something she wanted to entertain when the day was so nice and wonderful.
