Chapter 49 - Girl's Day Out

Alice strapped herself in the car and waited for Claudia to get into the driver's seat, so she pulled out her phone to edit some photos that she had taken the other day.

After they ate with Marion, they quickly got all of their stuff before heading out to the car. Claudia was driving since Alice didn't own one, but she was planning on getting one before going to university.

Marion pushed them out of the house as well since she was going to lock it down since Marion wasn't going to come back after giving all the food to the daycare. Luckily, Marion had already packaged everything through Tupperware when she served it for them to eat, and Alice and Claudia helped put them in her car.

As Marion pulled out of the driveway, Alice waved at her with a smile, and Marion waved back before Alice turned back to her phone. Claudia pulled the door open to the driver's seat and slipped inside before turning the car on. Alice took Claudia's purse and placed it in her lap and waited for Claudia to put in the GPS directions on her phone.

"Who was your nail tech lady again?" Claudia asked as they started off on their way.

Alice flipped her phone upside down on the thigh. "Nayeli. She's super sweet."

"Oh, I remember. I tend to forget to go get my nails done," Claudia said.

"No, me too," Alice agreed. "Mine are very short, so when they grow out, it doesn't even look too bad anyway."

"That's true, but it gives me an excuse to hang out with you," Claudia sang.

The air conditioning was coming out fast, and Alice directed it to the side before pulling the mirror above down to redo her lip shade. Smacking her lips together, Alice inspected her makeup. She changed her usual green shade of lenses for a dark blue one to match her outfit today which did take her a while to get used to.

"Do you like my lenses today?" Alice asked. "They look a lot more vibrant than my usual ones."

Claudia glanced over. "They do, but it's nice for a change. The blue color is pretty, and I think it looks good on you. But I still like your green ones more."

"Yeah, I feel that too," Alice said. "Oh, turn there."

"Here?"

"Yes. Hurry before you can't signal."

Claudia looked over her shoulder before signaling and turning into the small alleyway. "Where is this taking us?"

"It's a shortcut," Alice said. "But it's kinda bumpy."

"What the heck, Alice! This alleyway isn't for vehicles but only for small motorbikes and walkers," Claudia laughed.

Alice covered her mouth with her hand. "Wait, actually?"

Claudia slapped Alice's arm. "Girl, you're so bad."

"I didn't know," Alice laughed. "Just turn to the next road when you can."

The road was bumpy, but it was even more so in a car than when she was just walking on foot. It wasn't that bad when she would take the shortcut, but now Alice could see that it wasn't helpful at all. Alice wheezed out a laugh making Claudia shake her head in turn. "You're the definition of book smart but not street smart."

"That's horrible," Alice groaned. "I swear I'm not that bad."

"What a match we are. You suck at directions, and I suck at driving."

"No wonder Marion was worried," Alice snorted.

Claudia looked both left and right before turning onto the small road that ran through the alleyways, and they continued down it until they reached the main road that housed the nail salon that they were trying to get to. Claudia got into the parking lot and found a space to park before touching up their makeup and getting out.

Alice looped her arm through Claudia's as they stepped up onto the sidewalk to the store, and they pulled open the door with the small bell ringing as they entered.

There was a little wait, so they took a seat in the chairs that lined the wall before it was their turn. Alice leaned her head on Claudia's shoulder and took out her phone to look through the pictures.

"Why do you have pictures of Noah?" Claudia asked.

Alice cringed as she took in the photo. It was when they got burgers a week ago, and she took a few shots of him when they were walking home together to tease him later since he kept on walking into her. The unfortunate thing was that he actually looked good in them. "He was being stupid, so I took some photos of him."

"Ooh, I see."

Alice raised her eyebrow. "Why are you saying it like that?"

"It's nothing."

Alice gave her friend a suspicious glance. "It's not what you think it is."

"Sure, sure."

"I swear it's not," she sighed.
