When Kather explained everything to me, I was quite shocked to hear it as I couldn't make myself believe that Lord Edriach was part of the King Council and he was the mage that created this barrier that separated the inner wall and the outer wall of the capital. Meaning that the enemy was already infiltrating the capital ever since.
And by gaining the title of the Royal Mage, he was able to access anything regarding capital knowledge and plan. Also, being able to influence the king as that position is really are convenient.
And that also explains why there aren't many of the orcs or any of the monsters right now. As it seems like this Lord Edriach fellow is indeed a powerful mage and Ellyn did mention that he was well-versed in teleportation spells.
Meaning that the army of orcs and monsters is already inside the inner wall. Thus the real trouble is inside of the capital now…
