Chun Hua opened her eyes. She was met with a thin pair of eyes looking straight at her.
Ah!
She quickly sat up and headbutted the person staring at her so intensely. The knock on her head instantly brought back her memories.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Three days ago, she was reading through manuscripts when her colleague Si Yu barged into the office and started accusing her of stealing her client.
'I didn't steal anyone. You were the one who rejected her work before even giving it a thorough read. She asked me for a second opinion, and I gave it to her,' she tried to explain.
The book was about a lowly peasant girl from a poor family who meet and falls in love with a prince. Though the book isn't finished yet, the start of the book was quite engaging in Chun Hua's opinion. There was even someone with the same name as her, though it was only a side character that was barely mentioned.
'That-that is bull, and you know it! I was just giving her time to touch up on her work and you stole her from me!' Si Yu started to shout louder and louder. Looking around the office, no one seemed to believe her as the people here knew each other's personalities quite well and how short-tempered Si Yu was.
Seeing that no one wanted to back her up, she took the nearest thing to her -an empty vase- grabbed it and smashed it to the floor.
'I swear Chun Hua. I will get back at you for this!' Then she stomped her way out the office doors.
What happened after was pretty predictable. Due to her behavior and low job performance, the boss decided to let her go.
What I didn't expect to happen was, three days after that incident, she came into the office again at night while I was alone working overtime to finish editing the manuscript, she claims I stole.
She kept her head down and said she wanted to apologise to me for the way she acted and the things she had said. As a peace offering, she gave me a cup of coffee. I thanked her for the cup and took a sip.
She then started laughing. Her laugh began small but turned ugly and loud real fast. I started to feel woozy.
Panicked, I said, 'What did you do? Did you put something in this coffee?'
Slowly my vision started to blur, and I could see the stars behind glass windows of the office shine brighter. In front of me was Si Yu who had her hands clutching her waist laughing maniacally.
'Because of you, I lost my client and my job. My boyfriend even broke up with me! If you hadn't stolen my client everything would've been fine. My life would've stayed fine. Now you know what happens when you mess with me!'
Crazy b*tch. My hand went to the phone to call an ambulance but before I could, my consciousness gave away first. Everything went black.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remembering what happened sent chills down my spine, but right now I was more concerned about where I am and who this woman in front of me was. I rubbed my head where I headbutted her just now feeling the pain lessen by the second.
The woman fell to the dirt floor when we butted heads, but quickly stood up again and just grabbed both my hands and held it in front of her face.
'Chun Hua. Chun Hua. Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?'
As I looked at her, I noticed the hands she was holding. More specifically my hands. My tiny, tiny hands. Shocked, I pulled back my hands and started to stare them through all kinds of angles. These smooth plump hands were not hers!
'Chun Hua, look at mother. What's wrong?'
What mother? Lady, my mother died when I was 16 years old. The only relative she had left was her father who was living his retirement life.
Still, I dared not say these thoughts out loud since I am not in my body anymore apparently. Had she transmigrated?
She then started to look around the room and realized this was not a 21st century home, but a mud house. She then remembered the manuscript she was reading and the character who shared the same name as her, Chun Hua.
Chun Hua was the second child and only daughter of Xin Yue and Yang Jia Li, the firstborn son of Yang Da Ming and Shi Yun.
Her mother, Xin Yue, continued to look at her with eyes filled with worry.
'Chun Hua, please say something...'
Forget it. She had to think fast.
'M-Mother?'
Then a young boy entered the room, from his facial features, Chun Hua recognized him to be her older brother.
Xin Yue, Chun Hua's mother had born a son before Chun Hua, his name Yang Yi Chen.
'Chenchen, quick bring some water for Xiao Hua.' Her "mother" gestured him to move quickly to bring some water for his little sister.
She then turned back to look at me and held the back of her hand to my forehead.
She then gave a sigh and said, 'Looks like your fever has subsided. If it wasn't for that wretched girl Xiao Dan, you would've never been sick in the first place.'
Xiao Dan? Why would the main female lead do something bad to me? It's supposed to be the other way around.
Chun Hua's memories suddenly came rushing back to me now. From the time she was just learning to walk up until the family dinner we had last night. You could say that we became the same person as I felt our souls merge together.
As usual, me, my mother and grandmother were bullying Xiao Dan, the female lead. We made comments on how she doesn't contribute to the family due to her weak and frail body. Only taking food from those who really deserve it. In the end she cried and ran to her room that she shared with me. Happy seeing her cry, Chun Hua or me, became happy and took her share of the food. Feeling bloated, I slept well but developed a fever the next day.
The fever was so high that, apparently it burned the original Chun Hua's brain and now I'm in her body.
'Mother! Xiao Hua has woken up!'
A woman who looked to be in her 40s came into the room and instantly smiled at me.
'Thank goodness! The heavens have saved Xiao Hua! Now to deal with that wretched girl.' Angrily the woman stomped out of the room towards a little skinny girl shaking in fright outside the room.
