In an attempt to not give Ji Xinghe a chance to object, the leader of the second reinforcement squad promptly spoke up.
"Ji, approximately one minute and forty seconds from now, I will lead the team to turn around and block the pursuers. You've always lectured us – today, we'll teach you a lesson. The name of this lesson is—mercy does not command an army."
The leader of the first reinforcement squad said, "No need for guilt, or self-reproach. Your decision was correct, and our decision is likewise correct."
They were referring to the escape route Ji Xinghe decided on – directly opposing the fifth base's path.
They were also hinting at their decision to turn back, sacrificing their lives to thwart the Empire's pursuers and let Ji Xinghe, who deserved to live the most, survive.
But who didn't deserve to live?
