As everyone settled into their seats, the room buzzed with hushed conversations. Glyn's entrance had turned many heads, and Jericho couldn't help but admire her in her stunning red crystal gown. She was escorted by her father, Captain Sam, who looked proud and happy to have his daughter by his side.
Daine and Zee joined Jericho, Liz, and Tenshi's table, and the conversation shifted to the purpose of the trip. Suddenly, Jericho felt a sharp gaze on him and turned to see John, Glyn's research partner. John had been trying to ask her out for a long time but had been rejected every time. He was clearly not happy about Jericho's presence.
Liz noticed John's disdain and whispered to Jericho, "Be careful, John's had his eye on Glyn for a while now."
Jericho nodded, understanding the situation. He didn't want any trouble, especially on a trip like this one.
Daine chimed in, "Don't worry, Jericho, we've got your back."
Tenshi was too busy munching on his food to pay attention to the tension in the room.
As the night went on, the conversations shifted to lighter topics, and the atmosphere became relaxed. The team laughed and shared stories, forgetting about their worries for a little while.
But Jericho couldn't shake the feeling that John was still watching him, like a predator waiting for the right moment to strike.
As they sat down for dinner, Captain Sam asked Jericho to join him at his table. Glyn sat beside her and tried to hide her excitement at being close to Jericho again. But across the table, John's face was dark with anger as he tried to start a conversation with Jericho, intent on making him look bad in front of everyone.
"So, Jericho, I heard you're just a mercenary. What makes you think you're qualified to lead this mission?" John sneered, trying to embarrass Jericho in front of everyone.
Jericho remained calm and unaffected by John's insults. He simply smiled and replied, "I've been in this line of work for many years and have a wealth of experience. And if you have any concerns about my qualifications, I suggest you bring them up with Captain Sam."
Captain Sam nodded in agreement. "Jericho is one of the best in his field. He has led countless successful missions and has the respect of his team. I trust him completely and I know he will get the job done."
John scowled but decided to drop the subject. The rest of the dinner passed by without any more drama, with the team enjoying their meal and conversation. Glyn tried to catch Jericho's eye as much as she could, but he was focused on the mission and seemed not to notice her.
As the night came to an end, the team retired to their rooms, exhausted from the long day. But Glyn couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment, as she realized that her long-awaited reunion with Jericho might not turn out the way she had hoped.
As Glyn sat on the deck, sipping champagne and admiring the darkness of the sea and the stars, she couldn't help but feel disappointed. Despite her best efforts, John's attempts to humiliate Jericho earlier had left a sour taste in her mouth. She had always been drawn to Jericho's strength and composure, but seeing him be disrespected made her heart ache.
As she took another sip of champagne, she decided she wouldn't give up on Jericho just yet. She was determined to win him over, even if it meant getting drunk to forget her worries for a while.
Just then, she heard footsteps approaching. She looked up to see Jericho standing in front of her, concern etched on his face.
"Glyn, are you okay? I saw you leave the dinner and I wanted to check on you," Jericho said softly.
Glyn couldn't help the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. "I just couldn't handle John's behavior. He was trying to humiliate you and it just made me so angry," she said, her voice breaking.
Jericho sat down beside her and took her hand in his. "Don't worry about it. John is just jealous of my success. He doesn't matter," he said comfortingly.
Glyn looked up at Jericho, her eyes shining with tears and gratitude. "You're such a kind person. I've always admired you and I never thought I'd get the chance to be near you again," she said, her voice filled with emotion.
Jericho smiled down at her. "I've always remembered you, Glyn. You were such a sweet little girl and now you're a beautiful and accomplished young woman. I'm so proud of you," he said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
Glyn smiled through her tears and leaned her head on Jericho's shoulder. They sat in silence for a while, admiring the beauty of the night and the sound of the sea.
"I don't want to go back to my cabin tonight," Glyn said, looking up at Jericho with a hopeful expression.
Jericho took a deep breath. "I'll stay with you. I'll make sure you're safe," he said, his voice filled with determination.
Glyn smiled and leaned into Jericho, grateful for his presence and protection. She knew she had a lot of work to do to win his heart, but for now she was content just being near him, under the stars and the sea.
As they continued to talk, they were unaware of the set of eyes watching them from the shadows. The figure didn't make a move, but listened in on their conversation, waiting for the right moment to make their presence known.
Glyn was taken aback by John's sudden appearance and was even more disappointed by his words. She tried to defend Jericho, but John wouldn't listen. "You don't know him like I do," John said, sneering. "He's a dangerous man, a criminal, a monster. How can you be with someone like that?"
Jericho appeared on the deck, having heard the commotion. He approached Glyn and John, his expression cold. "What do you want?" he asked John, his voice low and menacing.
John, sensing the danger, took a step back, but he still tried to maintain his arrogance. "I just came to warn Glyn. You're not good for her," he said, his voice shaking. "I may not be able to fight you head-on, but I have connections, resources. I'll do whatever it takes to protect her from you."
Jericho laughed, the sound devoid of humor. "You think your connections and resources mean anything to me?" he said, his eyes blazing with anger. "I've built my empire from the ground up, with my own two hands. I don't need anyone's help to take care of my own."
Glyn, seeing the tension between the two men, stepped between them. "Stop it, both of you," she said, her voice firm. "This is ridiculous. You're both acting like children."
Jericho, his anger dissipating, put his arm around Glyn's shoulder. "Come on," he said, leading her away. "Let's go back to our cabin. This is over."
John, defeated, watched as they left, feeling a mix of frustration and anger. He knew he couldn't win against Jericho, but he still couldn't accept the fact that Glyn had chosen someone like him over someone like him. He drained the rest of his champagne and walked back to his cabin, his mind filled with thoughts of revenge.
