Chapter 3 - Syk Marina__A face equal to the sky

Marina's POV

"You are such an obedient child… what is your name?" I was quite frightened while D boss placed her hand on my head while giving me a piercing look. It was as though she was going to pick out my soul and separate it from my body.

"Marina!" I muttered. It was almost a whimper. She smiled and told me not to be afraid of her. Then she said I had a face as equal to that of the sky. Then she said,

"Syk"

"Syk Marina would be the name you answer from now on," that was like a year after we were brought here. Somehow, Drexa did take a liking to me. She even took me out with her on different occasions.

You would say I was like her hand bag, but such occasions were only few. And one of such occasions was where I almost got killed by a vampire. Yes, a vampire.

I was surprised as well when I realised that D boss did business both with vampires and with werewolves.

Well, D boss, as for what she was, I had no clue. Not even now, but I've noticed she is neither of both. But Gladia is a werewolf.

So, I have been called Syk Marina since I was 14. And that has been my name since then. None of us went by our father's name, just our first name. I was the only exception, because I answered a name other than my first name, even if not my last name.

I watched as Stacy puts on her make up. We had been taught all those things. I would say she doesn't really need any of those makeups. Stacy was the most beautiful girl among us. And I didn't need spectacles to see that.

By the time she was done, I could swear on how gorgeous she looked. Whosoever she was going to seduce would be totally smitten.

"You are gorgeous!" I complimented her. She eyed me disapprovingly. She hated the compliments.

"Marina, you should not admire these things," she said to me. I noticed the sadness in her eyes. But I loved it. I wasn't getting killed. We are finally grown and we no longer get beaten for not getting things right anymore. Like, we've master every act of seduction, and we've mastered every knife cutting skill we were supposed to know about. And we could defend ourselves if there was to be a fight.

Gladia soon came in and took Stacy away. She was wearing a black ankle length dress that had a split up to her thighs. She wore silver gloves and her hair was styled into a bun. But Gladia loosened it before they walked out the door.

I wanted to see her off. I wanted to watch her leave in the car that would be taking her to wherever. Neither of us know where she was going or what her mission was. But I was sure it's going to be just what Drexa does.

"Wait!" I called out as I ran towards Stacy and Gladia. Gladia eyed me disapprovingly, but I didn't care. I hugged Stacy and wished her the best of luck in whatever she was doing. I mean, I had gone out with D boss once and almost got killed even though I wasn't out for an actual mission, how much more Stacy who is out on a mission?

I returned back to our room after hugging Stacy. I was the only one inside. Isy was training the girls how to be poised.

Well, Gladia would give it to us as a duty to teach our juniors. They were brought here after us. It's been like that. Three batches had been brought here so far. And if you add them to Stacy, Isy and I, that's a total of four batches. But we were the only ones that came in three. The rest of them, each batch had either a total of five girls which is the least. The rest are six of them in each batch.

Isy has grown so well. She no longer trembled at threatening looks from Gladia. And she's so rebellious when she wants to be. I'm the worm among us all. I've never tried to do anything contrary to what Gladia or D boss wants. Don't know if I should call myself a pawn. But I wanted to live. I watched how my family died, and I wanted to live.

"Where is Stacy? Did she left already?" That question was coming from Milly. I looked up at her, taking my eyes off the book that I was holding.

"Yes Milly! And who taught you not to knock before entering?" I asked her. I wanted to give her a glare, but I could not. I lacked any form of intimidation. I lacked the charisma that Stacy had. I also lacked the boldness Isy had secured for herself. I was just the one who is so predictable in what she'd do.

"I'm sorry. But I needed her to do something for me. Never thought she'd leave before I come," Milly said. I sighed. Then I told her to wait till Stacy returned. I could have offered to help, but I did not want to be filled with any sense of responsibility.

"Can you help me?" she asked me giving me those puppy dog eyes look. I said a sharp no and asked her to leave.

I noticed her give me a death stare before leaving me to myself. I went back to enjoying my book.

A few minutes later, I felt a presence in the room. I lifted my head to find D boss.

"Reading, are you?" a sneaky smile embraced her lips. I wanted to smile back. But I could not. She would always be intimidating to me no matter how close she draws me to herself.

I immediately closed the book. She laughed at my timidness.

"You should no longer be like this Syk," she pinched my chin. Then she said we would be going out and that I should dress up.
