"Hey, don't suppose I could trouble you to take me home and to a rental company?" She asks awkwardly.
"Actually, I was going to insist I take you home. I just got off the phone with Lance and Lirael. They asked me to make sure your home wasn't vandalized too."
Her eyes widen at the thought and she nods, "I'll go fetch my purse."
"I'll be fetching something myself." I remark as I follow her in and Scott is already waiting by the door to Lance's playroom.
I go and fetch the pistol and belt holster, checking the clip and then let Scott lock back up.
"Thanks Scott."
"No problem, least I could do. Especially, since you gave me such a yummy view this morning." Scott winks at me, making Sarina throw eyes back and forth at us.
"Oh Scott." I roll my eyes at him.
"What?!" He scoffs, "If you put it on display, I can admire it. If you do ever decide to taste test though..." Scott teases me.
I laugh, "Big daddy and Lance have a better chance than you Scott."
Scott laughs, "But there's still a chance."
"oh my god" I mutter under my breath, before waving, "Later Scott. Thanks again!" I grab Sarina's hand and lead her to the car.
I'm so focused on getting away from Scott's flirting, that I don't notice a muffled sound coming from her, until we get to my car. I look at her a brow raised and she's giggling.
"What's so funny?" I inquire, opening the door for her.
She bursts into laughter, enters the car, so I climb in on my side. Once I've buckled up and she's taken a few breaths, she's still giggling, but spits out.
"Your face..." She giggles, "But there's still a... still a chance." She can't control her laughter and I shake my head and chuckle with her.
"Only in his dreams." I laugh.
"Yeah, and your nightmares." She breaks out in a fit laughter again as I start the car.
"So where do I go?" I inquire.
"South to the 5 or McDonald street, we take it all the way to Murray road. I live in the southern part of the Fairview area." She gives me a thin lipped smile and awkwardly shifts in her seat.
I nod and get us started on our way. It's only a twenty minute drive and we're there. We pull up into the drive and there's a small white van there with the back doors open, and a lady gathering up supplies.
"It's the cleaning lady." Sarina informs me as we park.
"Hey Maggie." Sarina waves to her and they start talking and she asks her to just stay out side for a minute.
She goes to the front door and opens it, and gasps again.
Her house was a disaster. Things were open up and scattered, every drawer, box, cabinet. She starts breathing heavy and I push her back out the door.
"Maggie? Yes?" I motion for her to take Sarina. "Keep her out here with you, and call the police to report a break in please. I'm going to check to see if anyone is in there now. Just get into the van and lock it up, till I come back out or the cops get here." She nods and takes Sarina, who resists.
"No, Brian, what if..?" I hold up a hand to stop her.
"Don't worry, I'm just going to check it out. I'll be careful. I promise." I turn back to Maggie, "Can I use a pair of those gloves?"
She nods and I thank her, pulling the gloves on and step into the house, pulling out the pistol. I check the living room and kitchen first, then the laundry room. I check the bedrooms and closets and find no one. I put the pistol away in the holster and come back out side.
"It's clear." I tell the ladies. "Sarina, we should check but try not to touch anything if you can to see what may be missing. That way we can report it to the police."
Sarina tells Maggie that she can leave, thanking her for staying with her.
Upon entering the house, she looks around again just shaking her head. She goes into the master and checks her jewelry box and immediately starts fuming.
"They took it all!" She pulls her hair, "My mom and dads wedding rings, her pearls, her brooches and all of my jewelry too! My ring..." She breaks down and crumples up, hugging her knees as she mourns the loss of items that have a value greater than money to her.
After a minute, she stands up and goes to the bathroom and wipes her face off, then continues looking through areas that she had more items of value. After her room, she walked into her office and work space, finding they took her laptop, camera, and a list of other electronic devices. In her brothers room, she just shrugs.
"I don't know what he had of value in here anyways." She grumbles, stepping into the last bedroom that is full of boxes marked, Mom & Dads. They were rummaged through, but this was the only room in the house that they didn't seem to care about.
We hear someone calling out from the living room, so we head out to see the police there. It takes a couple of hours but when all is said and done, they'll do their best to find the person who may be responsible for this.
After they leave, I give her a hug, holding her close as she just continues to take deep breaths. She finally breaks away from me and sounds exhausted.
"I don't know if I feel safe staying here." She looks around the house, to the window that the people had used to get inside in laundry room.
"Come on, we'll pack you some clothes. You don't have to stay here, if you don't feel safe. It's not safe to stay until you find out more information from the police." I think about Lance and Lirael's offer.
She bites on the pad of her thumb with just her teeth before saying, "I don't want to intrude upon your home and hospitality."
"Oh, well I only have a two bedroom apartment, one is my home office space, so..." I'm about to tell her about Lance and Lirael, when she cuts me off.
"Oh... yes, of course. Sorry, how presumptuous of me." She reddens in shame, but I'm quick to reassure her.
"I don't mind if you don't. I mean.. I just assumed you would like some personal space." I give her a soft smile, "I don't mind, Sarina. I just thought you'd be more comfortable at Lirael's, or someone else's place."
She shyly smiles, "I'll pack a bag or two. If the offer is still there after we get done with everything else, I'll take it. I should hurry though, otherwise ... Shoot! It's Sunday! The car rental places are already closed! Oh, I'll just have to uber to a place tomorrow." She starts stressing and I remind her.
"Worry about that tomorrow, come on. Let's pack a bag and go to the hospital, you still need to do that too."
"Oh.." She runs a hand down her face. "Damn it, David!" She says more exasperated than angry, but heads off to her room and begins packing what still hanging and in her drawers. She grabs a couple pairs of shoes, before packing things from her bathroom.
"I hate to ask this of you, Brian, but can we load my painting supplies that I have in the other room, please? I'll take them to my studio once I get the rental. I just don't want to have to come back here possibly alone for the next few days." She comes out of the bathroom and places another travel bag on top of two others.
"Yeah, not a problem, as long as it will fit." I say, picking up her bags to help load them up in the car.
She catches me while my hands are full, kissing me on the cheek, "Thank you, sir." Then she takes off into the other room while I'm trying to catch my bearings and tell my dick to calm down. After loading up my car with everything she needed to take, we went through and locked up the house. We put poles and anything else we could into the windows to keep someone from breaking back in. But we both know that locks only keep honest people out. If someone really wants in to the place, they'll get in.
We go to the hospital, but the doctor she needed to speak with had already left for the day. So she said suggested to go ahead and leave.
"You don't want to go speak to your brother?" I ask her, just to make sure.
"No, because if I do right now... I'll finish what he started last week. I don't need to do that. I'll see him tomorrow with the doctor hopefully."
I nod and we go to leave. "So Lirael's place or .... ?" I trail off letting her decide.
"Um... could you please take me to Lirael's? I'll give her a call and let her know we're on our way."
"Sure thing."
