Yu Xuan had some exchanges with this uncle when Fu HaoRan was still alive. It wasn't exactly correct to say that he played the old age card. It was more like he didn't behave like he should for his age.
Just because he raised Fu HaoRan, he had visited them quite a few times as someone of the older generation.
Now, he came over as soon as Fu HaoRan had passed away. At first, Yu Xuan thought he was aiming to take his money himself; he didn't expect him to bring a woman claiming to have grown up with Fu HaoRan and was now pregnant with his child.
They had it all thought out. They knew that without Fu HaoRan's body, there would be no way to prove whether the kid was not his.
Yeah right!
Never mind that this was not Fu HaoRan's child, even if it was, he'd never admit to it.
They wanted to use an unborn child to take over his inheritance? Keep dreaming!
There was no body. Which also meant nobody could proof that the kid was his. Or that he was fertile.
When Yu Xuan said Fu HaoRan was infertile, Uncle and Ah Yu were both stunned.
Uncle's first reaction was shocked, then he was enraged, "Yu Xuan, what bullshit are you spewing? How could you say that HaoRan was infertile!"
Ah Yu immediately seemed rattled and subconsciously placed her hand over her stomach and looked away.
But, as soon as she heard Uncle's words, she played along immediately. Her eyes reddened, and she choked back her tears, "Mr. Yu suspect that this is not HaoRan's child?"
Yu Xuan stuttered and seemingly with great difficulties continued, "HaoRn is already gone. I never planned on sharing something so personal, but…." he looked over at Ah Yu and her growing stomach, "Uncle, you are family so I will be honest with you. I am not lying. HaoRan is infertile. He was…. Injured one year into our marriage and became infertile. Otherwise, how would we not have a kid all these years?"
Yu Xuan's voice was soft and weak, and he looked like a helpless man. It wasn't difficult to convince others that he would not lie about such a thing because this body did have function, this body could make a person pregnant but no one knew about this not even Yu Xuan.
"How… how is that possible? HaoRan was infertile? Are you sure about that?" Uncle knew Yu Xuan very well; he was timid and non-confrontational. He never even dare to speak his mind, let alone making up something like this and top of this he was a male.
Yet, he refused to believe that Fu HaoRan was infertile.
"It was true," choking back his tears, Yu Xuan looked at Fu HaoRan's portrait. He tried to hold back his tears, but finally failed and they rolled down his cheeks. "If it wasn't true, would I make up something like this to smear HaoRan's name after he had passed?"
"Right, right, right. I remember it now. Master was injured once, and he was particularly upset that time." Aunty Lin was incredibly worried about Yu Xuan. This was Mr. Fu's family business and had nothing to do with a servant, but when she heard Yu Xuan's words, she immediately added, "And I was wondering why he was so upset that one time, now it all makes sense…."
Aunty Lin let out a loud sigh after she finished.
Uncle was now 70-80% bought into the story. He looked up immediately and gave Ah Yu a stare.
After Ah Yu heard Yu Xuan's words, she panicked, but she continued stubbornly, "That's… that's not possible! This is HaoRan's child, I am not lying!"
Uncle still felt unreconciled, "Well, okay, if it resulted from an injury, can you provide me with the medical record from the hospital at the time? I want to see it."
Yu Xuan just made this whole thing up on the fly. There was no injury, let alone the medical record. How would he be able to provide that?
"Uncle, as you know. This concerns the self-esteem of a man. HaoRan was so angry at the time he burned the record from the hospital, and the hospital no longer has this on file. But, if you don't believe me, we can wait until Miss Ah Yu gives birth to this child. If it is HaoRan's child, I am sure he will look like HaoRan."
Ah Yu immediately rebutted her, "How could you tell who a baby look like?"
"Exactly, so we will have to ask Miss Ah Yu to wait patiently. If the newborn doesn't look like him, we can wait for him to grow up. If he doesn't look like HaoRan when he was one, we will wait till he turns two; if he didn't look like HaoRan when he was two, we will wait till he turns 10; if he doesn't look like HaoRan when he was 10, we will wait till he turns 18. Once he's an adult, he will no doubt look like HaoRan. I am sure HaoRan would be happy on the other side when his child calls him 'dad' then." That said, Yu Xuan sighed, "It was too bad we weren't able to find HaoRan's body. Otherwise, we would be able to run a DNA test right away and Uncle wouldn't have to suspect that I am lying and smearing HaoRan's reputation."
The only reason Ah Yu came all the way here was precisely because they would not be able to have a DNA test. Hearing what Yu Xuan had to say now, he'd have to wait for the child to grow up? He or she would have to look like HaoRan before they'd recognize him as his child?
Whether the child looks like him is very subjective. Unless the child is a clone of his, otherwise if Yu Xuan said they don't look alike, what could he do about that?
By that time, the entire inheritance would be gone already.
Ah Yu panicked all of a sudden.
"Uncle… This… This child really belongs to HaoRan. You must believe me…."
Uncle gave Ah Yu an angry stare. It was obvious who was in the right at this point.
"HaoRan was infertile, so where did this child come from? Never mind that you were lying to me. You tried to cheat Yu Xuan also? How dare you? Now, scram!"
Ah Yu came here with full of confidence in herself. With just a few words from Yu Xuan, she had lost the entire battle miserably. She even lost the trust of Uncle who was on her side. Covering her stomach with her hand and having no other options, she finally left feeling unreconciled.
Yu Duo looked at Uncle and his look that of appreciation, "Uncle, thank you so much…"
Uncle was touched by how appreciative Yu Xuan looked and said, "Oh, child. There's no need to thank me. It was all Uncle's fault. Uncle was fooled by the child Ah Yu. Uncle is sorry."
Yu Xuan shook his hands frantically. Looking like he was overwhelmed by his apology, he said, "No, no, no. That is alright. I understand that you didn't mean for that to happen. Uncle was also the victim in this incident. I understand."
And that was how Yu Xuan took care of the whole incident.
On the other hand, Fu HaoRan was so angry he could breathe fire.
Fu HaoRan had no idea who was this woman who he had allegedly "grew up with", never mind that so called child that was his. He was quite curious how Yu Xuan would handle this drama, but he didn't expect Yu Xuan to just straight up make up a lie that nobody could proof – his fertility!
The way that Yu Xuan could twist the truth was surely an eye-opening experience for him.
Every word out of Yu Xuan's mouth was utter nonsense!
If he hadn't already found out what kind of person Yu Xuan was, Yu Xuan's seemingly sincere speech just now probably would have even convinced him. Yu Xuan might have him questioning his own fertility!
This man was outrageous!
Too outrageous!
Fu HaoRan add another mark on this man in his little black book.
Uncle was very pleased with how reasonable Yu Xuan was, "I am glad that you are so reasonable, then Uncle would not discuss this any further. It has been a while since HaoRan has passed. Have you heard anything about his inheritance from the lawyers?"
Yu Xuan did not give away anything from his look. Uncle was finally starting to show his true colors.
At the end of the day, he just wanted to leech off of him.
Yu Xuan replied obediently, "Yes, the lawyers had already spoken to me."
Uncle nodded. "HaoRan lost both of his parents when he was just a child. Uncle was the one who raised him. My family is his family, and I am like a grandfather to him. Yu Xuan, now that HaoRan is gone, and I spent so much time and effort in raising him. Should I be entitled to a part of his inheritance?"
Yu Xuan looked up and blinked. He seemed to have noticed a shadow by the door. Hesitantly, he said, "….. Yes, you raised HaoRan since he was a child. You should be entitled to some…"
Hearing that, Uncle broke out into a content smile, "That's good to hear. Uncle will arrange a lawyer to contact you in the next few days so we can discuss the matters of the inheritance in details. Even though HaoRan had passed away and you are all alone, don't worry, Uncle will be like your family from now on. Whatever you need, you can come to Uncle. Uncle will help you anyway that he can!"
Yu Xuan's timid and non-confrontational front made Uncle seem all the more loving toward him.
"Uncle's here?" rang a casual voice from the direction of the front door.
Aunty Lin took a look and immediately walked over in that direction, "Ah Qi, you are here."
Ah Qi was casually dressed, but his body was fit and skinny. Even just a simple black jacket seemed tasteful on him. He had a butch cut hairstyle, and his gaze was sharp. He looked exactly like a daredevil, overconfident, and arrogant young man. He even got mud on his shoes, a sign that he ran over here in a rush.
After taking his shoes off, he walked over and greeted Yu Xuan with a "sister-in-law".
Yu Xuan looked happy for a second there but quickly reminded himself to refrain himself. He forced a smile and said, "Ah, you are here, Ah Chi…"
Ah Chi gave Uncle a strict and cold look and said, "I wonder what is Uncle's purpose of visit?"
Deep down inside, Uncle was disgruntled but he couldn't do anything else other than to nod under the intense stare of the wolf-like Ah Chi.
Ah Chi suddenly has it all figured out, "Oh, so you were here to pay respect to Big Brother. And here I thought Uncle only came over because Big Brother was gone and you were here to take advantage of sister-in-law."
Now that Ah Chi had called him out to his face, Uncle couldn't hold it back anymore. He shouted angrily at him, "What kind of nonsense are you talking about?"
Ah Chi put on a smile immediately, switching his emotions like an award-winning actor, "You are right, Ah Chi shouldn't have thought such thoughts about Uncle."
Uncle snickered, "I raised your brother since he was a child. What? Now that he was gone, shouldn't I be entitled to some of his inheritance?"
Ah Chi didn't beat around the bush. he said bluntly to Uncle, "Uncle, indeed you were the one who raised Big Brother. But, at the end of the day, you two are not related. As far as the law is concerned, you are not entitled to this inheritance. And what about the millions of dollars that Big Brother had been giving you over the years? I'd say Big Brother had more than repaid you over the years."
"You….."
Ah Chi was firm on his stance, "It's getting late, let me help you out?"
It wasn't even 10 AM yet. It was nowhere close to being late.
But Uncle also understood that as long as Ah Chi was there, he would not be able to continue the conversation regarding the inheritance. It was better for him to bid his farewell now; the longer he stayed, the worse was going to come out of Ah Chi. He got up and said, "Now that I have paid my respect to HaoRan, I should go. I will be back often to visit him."
Ah Chi kindly reminded him, "Uncle, Big Brother's grave was at Panlong Cemetery. When you miss Big Brother, that's where you should go to visit here, not here."
Uncle gave Ah Chi a stare. He left feeling unreconciled.
After Uncle has left, Yu Xuan finally give Ah Chi a timid look and said to him, "Thank you, Ah Chi."
Ah Chi took a look at Yu Xuan, then quickly averted his eyes and dare not let his sight linger on him. He did not focus his sight, scratched his head like a silly boy and said, "Sister-in-law, there's no need to thank me. Big Brother is not around anymore. Anything you need in the future, just let me know. I won't let anyone take advantage of you!"
Yu Xuan smiled tenderly and said, "I would like to go visit your big brother at Panlong Cemetery, would you like to come with?"
"Yes!" Ah Chi nodded immediately, "Sister-in-law, I have my car with me. Why don't I take you?"
"Thank you."
Ah Chi closed his mouth; the dimples on both of his cheeks were clearly visible.
On the way there, Yu Xuan only sat in the back seat quietly. His look was desolate and lonely. Ah Chi could see Yu Xuan from the rearview mirror. He wanted to say something to comfort Yu Xuan but couldn't quite find the words.
It was raining cats and dogs the night before, but today, the sky was clear with no clouds. The weather was nice for a change.
The cemetery was quiet and serene.
Yu Xuan stood in front of Fu HaoRan's tombstone and placed in front of it, his favorite flower – lilies. Yu Xuan looked at Fu HaoRan's picture on the headstone quietly.
Ah Chi stood not too far behind Yu Xuan, looking at him quietly.
Now that Big Brother was gone, all the questionable characters were coming out of nowhere plotting to take advantage of sister-in-law's kind nature and gain an upper hand. They even wanted a cut of the inheritance. Just why did they think they were entitled to that??
Ah Chi closed his eyes and said softly, "Big Brother, if you can hear me, please watch over sister-in-law from the other side."
Standing next to Ah Chi, Fu HaoRan snickered. Watch over him?
Fu HaoRan couldn't believe what he was seeing. All these years that Ah Chi had been his right-hand man and has always been a highly-competent individual. He couldn't figure out why Ah Chi couldn't see through Yu Xuan.
Ah Chi was, after all, too young. He still wasn't skilled and experienced enough.
Fu HaoRan felt gravely disappointed!
(T/N: Fu HaoRan didn't see through his own wife either! He should talk!)
The sun was getting higher and Yu Xuan continued to stand in front of the grave quietly.
Yu Xuan didn't need to turn around to know that Ah Chi was looking at him intently from behind him.
Even though Yu Xuan brought Ah Chi along intentionally to be his witness, he hadn't expected the sun to be so strong. There were no trees around the graves for shade, and he was dying under the sun.
Yu Xuan should have checked the weather the night before; that was a mistake on his part.
Yu Xuan looked up, wiped some sweat away from his forehead, and sneaked a peek at his watch.
…. It had only been 10 minutes.
With the "love" between him and Fu HaoRan, he needed to stand here for at least an hour… Oh, screw it, 30 minutes would just have to do.
Yu Xuan should have the foresight to lathered on more sunscreen. With the sun so strong, he'd become a few shades darker. He was worried about his skin issue so he paid close attention to the time. Time seemed to have slowed down to a crawl.
Keeping up this front was way too difficult!
Yu Xuan never wanted to come here again!
Finally, half an hour had gone by when Yu Xuan gathered up his emotions. He turned around, looking down and softly said, "Let's go."
"Sister-in-law, why don't you go rest up in the car first. I will talk to Big Brother for a bit and join you shortly."
Yu Xuan nodded at him. Then, walking slowly and turning around frequently, he finally made it to the car. When he turned around and looked again, Ah Chi was already out of his sight. He quickly climbed inside the car.
The air conditioning was blasting in the car and Yu Xuan cooled down right away. He sighed comfortably.
The day was so hot; why was he doing this to himself?
Yu Xuan needed to figure something out. He couldn't keep coming back here every 3 to 5 days just for the sake of keeping up with the appearance!
That would be too much!
Yu Xuan pulled out his phone and looked left and right in it. He frowned and was very worried, "I was out there for half an hour under the sun. My makeup is half gone, and my face is red. I wonder if I am going to tan?"
Back when Fu HaoRan was around, Yu Xuan had to pay close attention to his body and appearance constantly. Surely, Fu HaoRan was not around anymore. But, it was still important to maintain his attractiveness. If nothing else, he'd feel happier when he sees himself.
"I must go to a spa in the next few days and pamper myself."
Fu HaoRan sat in the passenger seat with his eyes closed. Don't get mad, don't get mad. He told himself. It's better if he kept his eyes close and not see what was going on.
What an infuriating man!
Fu HaoRan was a renowned figure in City S.
By renowned, it meant within a certain circle, everybody knew of him. He started out with nothing. He built his entire empire from scratch in merely 10 years; that definitely said something about his ability.
On the other hand, Fu HaoRan's infamous personality preceded him. Most of the public were angry at him but dared not say so publicly. He was very vindictive and brutal in eliminating his competitions. At the beginning of his career when he was running around like a chicken with its head cut off, he had met many colorful characters – some tried to keep him down, some were two-faced, some backstabbed him, others laid obstacles down behind his back. He put up with all of them.
Until his empire was established. That was when he went after them one by one. None of them were spared.
He didn't kill anyone, but most of them went bankrupt.
Ironically, none of them knew how they had become Fu HaoRan's target. They had completely forgotten how they had treated him when he first started out.
That was the reason of Fu HaoRan's bad reputation, which consequently resulted in nobody wanting to have direct confrontation with him.
When Yu Xuan first transmigrated, he weighed his options. Between running away or staying as Fu HaoRan's kept man, he happily chose the latter.
Reality had proven that Yu Xuan had made the right decision. Sure, he had to play the role of a spoiled airhead for three years, and tread on thin ice every day, but the quality of life wasn't too bad. As long as he catered to the Boss's every whim, things were fine. Now that Fu HaoRan was finally gone, Yu Xuan could also inherit his billion dollar empire. That was about as good as anything could get.
With this billion-dollar inheritance, Yu Xuan could live out the rest of his life any way that he wanted. Yu Xuan could shop, travel; just thinking about it was enough to make him happy.
There were a few Weibo texts on Yu Xuan's phone. His Weibo hasn't stopped since Fu HaoRan had passed away, most of them comforting words. He gave it some serious thought. Even though Fu HaoRan went missing in the explosion a month ago, they just had the funeral. It was the funeral that confirmed his death, that meant he would have just accepted the fact that Fu HaoRan had died yesterday.
This was the second day after his husband's death, he should play the role as such.
He unlocked his phone and opened up the Weibo app and entered: You said we will spend the rest of our lives together, but you are already gone.
Send!
Shortly, his friend group was flooded with messages like "our thoughts and prayers are with you."
Fu HaoRan, who had been calmly watching Yu Xuan posting messages to his friend group, calmly watched Yu Xuan smiling triumphantly.
How was it that he had never noticed this man really needed to be taught a lesson?
Thinking about that, Fu HaoRan must ask himself, why was it that he had never saw through Yu Xuan's true self?
While Yu Xuan was responding to hiz Weibo texts happily, he heard knocking on the door.
Startled, Yu Xuan slammed the phone shut.
"Madam, it's me. Aunty Lian!"
Aunty Lian was also in her friend group; he figured Aunty Lian probably saw him posting as well.
"C'mon in."
Aunty Lian entered the room with a bowl of herbal soup in her hand. The soup was black in color and as soon as Yu Xuan walked inside with it, the entire room was filled with a bitter smell. The look of it would make anyone not want to drink it.
Yu Xuan's expression dropped immediately as soon as he saw the bowl of herbal soup, but he still needed to put up the front of trying to appear fine when he was feeling down.
Aunty Lian put the bowl of herbal soup on the table and said, "Madam, I looked up the calendar. You have not taken medicine this time. had always been on time and why don't you have some herbal soup?"
That reminded Yu Xuan instantly, today was indeed the first day of taking medicine, this medicine was for stomachaches which the original owner used to get due to health issue.
Yu Xuan's mouth was stiffed. He forced himself to look away from the herbal soup. He had been drinking this herbal soup for three years, of course he knew what it was.
In order to play his role properly in front of Fu HaoRan, Yu Xuan pulled out all the tricks to make himself seemed like a Chinese dodder. He was afraid of thunder, rain, and all sorts of bugs. Even during his stomachaches, he was like any other fragile flower. He was in so much pain that he couldn't even get out of bed and needed his husband to hold him and rub his belly for him.
(T/N: Saying someone is like "Chinese dodder" meant they are very fragile and high maintenance.)
Thinking about his own acting in front of Fu HaoRan, even he couldn't help but shudder.
Fu HaoRan hired a traditional herbalist doctor to check Yu Xuan out and gave him a prescription for herbal soup that was supposedly effective at helping his body regulate and relieving the pain from stomachaches. He had Aunty Lian made her the herbal soup every time during his stomachaches.
Herbal soups were bitter and astringent in nature, and Yu Xuan played off of that in front of Fu HaoRan as well.
Yu Xuan said that the herbal soup was too bitter and difficult to swallow. He insisted for Fu HaoRan to feed it to him, and also made him feed him candies afterward.
Yu Xuan got goosebumps just from thinking about him over-the-top behavior in the past. Speaking of acting, he had really perfected his performances in front of Fu HaoRan. He could arguably win an Oscar best actor award.
Welp! That was only because that's the kind of boy that Fu HaoRan liked.
One that was obedient, spoiled, drama-free. A kept-man who waited at home for him to come back every day. Someone like that was much better than the men out there who were always plotting something.
After all, as far as Fu HaoRan was concerned, his company and his career were his entire life. Men were only icing on the cake.
He would woo him when he was in the mood and tossed him aside when he was done.
This entire time, Yu Xuan had learned to gauge that to perfection.
Aunty Lian knew that Yu Xuan was used to Master feeding him his herbal soup. Now that Master was gone, it would take Madam some time getting used to drinking it himself.
Looking how Yu Xuan was staring at the herbal soup, Aunty Lian sighed and said, "Madam, even though Master is not around anymore, you should still take care of your own body."
Yu Xuan looked down and smiled bitterly, "I understand, just leave it here for now. It's too hot to drink right away, I will have it after it had cooled down some."
Aunty Lian nodded immediately, then, as if she had suddenly recalled something, she looked at Yu Xuan with worry in her eyes and said, "Madam, I saw your post to your friend group, are you… are you alright?"
Yu Xuan forced a smile on himself and said, "I am alright, just…." And he stopped.
Aunty Lian sighed.
Master and Madam had been married for three years. She could tell how in love they were. Now that Master was gone, how could Madam not be sad. She wondered how long it would take Madam to heal. It was not healthy to keep it all inside. She didn't want Madam to get sick from his sadness.
Fu HaoRan, watching it all from the side, snickered. What he really wanted to tell Aunty Lian was, Don't bother worrying about Yu Xuan. That heartless man was doing just fine!
"Madam, you should go out for a little bit in a couple of days."
Yu Xuan looked disinterested in that suggestion. Sluggishly, he said, "Mm, we will see."
Aunty Lian knew that there was not much she could say. She sighed to herself and nagged Yu Xuan to drink his herbal soup before he left.
After Aunty Lian had left, the smell of the herbal tea drifted to Yu Xuan's nose and made him frown.
Yu Xuan's body was perfectly fine. Original owner might feel like he would die during his stomach ache , but not him. He was completely unaffected by it.
Thinking about how he had been in the last few years, Yu Xuan couldn't help but sigh. He had sacrificed so much in order to stay in character with his Chinese dodder image.
What ne wouldn't do to be Fu HaoRaan's kept man? He could even drink bitter herbal tea like this. That was something.
Now that Fu HaoRan was gone, there was no way he'd continue to torture himself like that!
Yu Xuan picked up the bowl of herbal soup and gave the entire bowl of herbal soup to the toilet.
As soon as Yu Xuan started walking towards the bathroom with the bowl of herbal tea, Fu HaoRan had a pretty good idea what Yu Xuan had in mind.
He remembered how Yu Xuan used to snuggle up to him, looking pale, and whined about having him rub his belly for him while moaning the entire time. He totally fell for that.
And he fell for that for three whole years?
Three years!
He had been massaging Yu Xuan for three year!
Yu Xuan, unbelievable!
Fu HaoRan snickered and passed through the bedroom wall into the hallway. Looking at Aunty Lian, who was still sighing as Yu Xuan was walking away, he slowly opened the room door.
SQUEAK!
Aunty Lian heard the sound of the door opening and turned around dubiously. She pushed the door open just in time to see Yu Xuan walking out from the bathroom with the empty bowl and the noise of the toilet flushing resounded in the quiet mansion.
Yu Xuan was caught red handed.
"My Madam, what did you do? You can't not drink your herbal soup just because Master was gone!" Aunty Lian knew what was going on as soon as she saw Yu Xuan. She walked over to her full of sadness and snatched the empty bowl from Yu Xuan's hand. "Yes, Master was gone. But life goes on. What would Master think if he knows?"
Yu Xuan couldn't find the right words to say to Aunty Lian.
And why did Aunty Lian came back after he had left anyway? That was unusual.
"I…."
"Madam! I don't want to nag you. I am just a maid and don't have the authority to nag you, but I must say my piece. Master had spent so much time in nurturing your body, you can't just let all his effort goes to waste just because he was gone. Can you imagine how sad he'd be if he finds out?"
"Aunty Lian, please don't be upset. I …."
Aunty Lian didn't want to listen to his excuses, "Luckily I still have some left in the kitchen, I will bring you the rest of the soup right now!"
"Aunty Lian, I am fine…" Yu Xuan wanted to tell her that his body was fine. He was fine, but Aunty Lian had already walked away without listening to here. She brought back the remaining herbal soup from the kitchen along with the dregs and placed it in front of him.
"Madam, you should drink it while it's still warm," said Aunty Lian as she stood her ground. It was obvious that she wasn't going to go anywhere until he had finished drinking the soup.
Yu Xuan stared at the bowl in front of him, it was at least twice the size of the bowl before, and he could see the dregs floating around on the top of the bowl. He could already taste the bitterness on the back of his tongue and his stomach started to roil.
"Aunty Lian, my stomachache is fine. I don't have painful stomachaches anymore."
Aunty Lian wouldn't listen to a word Yu Xuan said; she even thought Yu Xuan was just looking for excuses.
Just a month or two ago, before Master's accident, Madam couldn't even get out of bed during his stomachache. How was that fine?
Aunty Lian's face dropped, "Madam, the herbalist said that even if your body had recovered, you will still need to take this a few more times to solidity it."
"But…" Yu Xuan was floundering.
"Go on, drink it. It's not good cold."
Under Aunty Lian's unbudging stare, Yu Xuan had no choice but to pick up the bowl courageously like he was about to go to battle as he chugged the herbal soup.
It would be too painful to drink it one sip at a time.
After Yu Xuan had finished chugging his herbal soup, he looked even more pale than he was at the funeral. Yu Xuan covered her mouth, and tears were about to stream down his face.
Aunty Lian said satisfyingly, "Madam, don't stay up to late. I shall see myself out now."
Having said that, she left with the bowl.
Yu Xuan quickly got up, locked the bedroom door, and fished out the candies he used to have after the herbal soup. That finally afforded some relief to the bitter taste in his mouth.
WHOOOSH!!
A gust of wind came in from the opened window and blew the curtain high up for a prolonged period of time. It was empty behind the curtain, almost as though someone was hiding behind it.
With that image in Yu Xuan's mind, plus what had happened last night, Yu Xuan felt his hair standing up on the back of his neck.
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang next to his ear through gritted teeth. It sounded like both right next to his ear but also from very far away at the same time. It was very metaphysical, but he heard it clearly.
----- "I didn't know you are afraid of anything."
Yu Xuan shuddered and his heart was pounding wildly in his chest. Hie knees buckled and he looked carefully around the room. There was no one else inside the room other than her.
Did Fu HaoRan return?
To be continued...
